Late Night Takes – Cleaning up Congress

Maxine Waters & Charles Rangel - Still in office

Late Night Humor

The Tonight Show With Jay Leno

· This weekend, we turn(ed) the clocks back. Now don’t confuse that with last Tuesday when Democrats got their clocks cleaned.

· It looks like John Boehner will be the new speaker of the House. He is the son of a bartender, one of 12 children who grew up in a two-room home with just one bathroom. He worked his way through school and became the first person in his family to graduate from college. Then, sadly, he fell in with the wrong crowd and wound up in Congress.

These jokes are courtesy of NewsMax.com (Hat Tip!), which periodically sends out an email compilation of late night jokes, few of which are worth repeating … these two were the exceptions in the latest batch.

President Picks Yakking Yentas, PC, & Politics Over Boy Scouts of America

2010 National Scout Jamboree

Last week the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) held their 100 year anniversary celebration in Virginia, near the nation’s Capital. Most past Presidents took time out of their schedules to personally attend the National Scout Jamboree, which happens only every four years. Our President chose to diss the boys and to attend more 'important' events. Apparently he did this because a key component of his and his parties' support base is the active and monied homosexual lobby. The BSA have stood firm against the onslaught of homosexual advocates who desire subvert the principles and practices of the BSA.

The President's choices last week demonstrate his true values and principles, which I believe are ultimately harmful to this society. I concur with the American Family Association President, Tim Wildmon’s assessment of the disdain President Soetoro alias Obama has for the wholesome, traditional, American-value-laden Boy Scouts. He and his regime mates decided to choose an appearance on a gabfest TV show and attendance at a fund raising events in New York over making a personal appearance at the Boy Scouts of America 100 year anniversary celebration. By doing so, the President made his own values and priorities crystal clear.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) represent all that the President apparently has no use for, such as traditional American values, character, conservation, loyalty, one man-one woman marriage, pro-life, traditional intact family, and free enterprise. Instead, he would rather schmooze with the yakking yentas on mourning TV. Maybe, too he wanted to mesmerizing the newly expanded unemployment compensation recipients, who may be sitting at home relaxing and watching TV and waiting for their 100th week's check (made possible by the President's irresponsible cronies in Congress who just bailed them out by increasing the deficit). That is the audience he apparently cares more about. Ironically, the green President fueled up Air-Force One and flew past Virginia, where the Boy Scouts were celebrating, en route to New York to fund raise and do what he does best, campaign, this time for more shameless socialist schmucks.

How to win an election

“According to reports Democrat operatives are digging harder to find dirt on Republican candidates.

“Hey, Democrats, if you want to win, why just support policies America actually likes.”

Time for Some (More) Campaigning

Three weeks, 21 days, ‘til Election Day. The embedded YouTube video below is very humorous and is a lighthearted satire poking fun at the intense Presidential campaign playing out before us right now. This video was posted here earlier, but it is so good and so apropos that I thought I should post it again. Thanks KC for the reminder!

Best Fairy Tale

No, this post is not about the encroaching homosexual agenda or about a woman's "right" to kill her baby per se. It is about the current political scene. Thanks to T.D. who sent me an email with this picture.

“People are still buzzing about former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan’s new book, What Happened?”

“I’ll tell you what happened, Scott McClellan needed the money.”

- - - NewsBusted, Episode 172

The American leftist Marxists are loving this book and I would not be surprised if they even helped fund its production and distribution for the benefit of the Democratic nominee for President. You know that the main stream media, which is essentially the public relations arm of the Democratic Party, will provide a great deal of free public relations and marketing for this book. The timing of the book is very suspicious.

The 545 who ARE accountable

T.D. sent me the article reproduced below. I believe that this article has to be at least 25 years old. It has been circulating in cyberspace for a long time. A former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper, Charley Reese, wrote the article. I took the liberty to update the article for 2008. I capitalized and used red letters where I changed the wording. The bold letters are mine, which I used for emphasis. If you would like to see the original you can find it in numerous places on the Internet.

There is so much truth in Mr. Reese’s words, that they may be even more meaningful today, especially in light of the sorry American political scene, which is a veritable nightmare. In the less than spectacular race for President that will insure less than optimal leadership the next four years, we have two radical leftist-socialists vying for the Democratic nomination against an aged, cantankerous, miserable moderate Republican-in-name-only (RINO). No choice really.

The 545 People Responsible for All of U.S. Woes

by Charley Reese

(and respectfully updated by gregjaye)

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against AN ECONOMIC DOWNTURN and high taxes, we have AN ECONOMIC DOWNTURN and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 330 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all but the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislation's responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY

Don't you see how the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of NANCY PELOSI, who stood up and criticized GEORGE W. BUSH for creating deficits AND RAILING AGAINST THE WAR ON TERROR AT EVERY TURN.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes.

PELOSI is the speaker of the House. SHE is the leader of the majority party. SHE and HER fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 330 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the MILITARY IS in IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN, it's because they want them in IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. They and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees.

Let us consider carefully the words of Mr. Reese as we prepare to go into the election booth in November. There are a lot of people who need to be let go from their jobs. Let us get rid of those who only want to blame others for what they have done. The approval ratings for both the current President and the current Congressional members are at all time lows and really do justify a wholesale purge.

Political Reality, Little Morality

Michael Ramirez is one of my favorite political cartoonists. His cartoons are consistently right on the mark. His cartoon below captures the evolution of moral corruption in U.S. politics.
.
A Michael Ramirez Cartoon found on Investor's Business Daily 3/31/08
.
Maybe we should call for a moratorium on sleaze, just like the global warming alarmists called for the so-called Earth Hour this past weekend. Of course, I did not participate in the foolish and unnecessary acknowledgment of a non-issue. There is no manmade climate change catastrophe looming. It is only in the wildly vivid imaginations and devolved minds of Algore and his extreme environmentalist buds and some greedy government-grant gravy train riding so-called scientists.

Let's stop political sleaze in the political arena. This applies to Democrats, Republicans and Independent politicians alike. Of the two major political parties, the Republicans seem more responsive and quicker to call for their wayward party colleagues to resign (Rep Mark Foley), than are the Democrats (Rep. William Jefferson, etc.) who continue to embrace even the most deviant among them. This should equally apply to the foisting of guilt and debt on the taxpaying public based on the senseless fantasy (read that, lie) of manmade global warming.

The Haircut & Politics as Usual

T.D. sent me an email of a modern day parable. I think it says a lot about the current political environment. Thanks, T.D.

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The cop is happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Later that day, a college professor comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The professor is very happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber opens his shop, there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen different books, such as 'How to Improve Your Business' and 'Becoming More Successful.'

'Then, a Congressman comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Congressman is very happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut
.
And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the members of our Congress.

Vote carefully this year.

You only have to look at Congress' dismal approval rating to see what the public thinks. How do the Democrats in Congress expect to hold on to their majority when they are the cause of much of the poor approval ratings? We need to start by voting Madame Speaker and Senator Surrender out of office at the first opportunity! In other words we need to clean out the House and the Senate . . .

Dave (1993)

This is an older movie that just happened to catch my eye as I was browsing in my local video store. I rented the movie this past weekend. It was a very good. It is, as one reviewer, who highly recommended it, wrote, “A great combination of romance, feel good politics and a few laugh-out-loud moments.”

The corrupt President depicted in the movie, a precursor of President Bill Clinton perhaps. The President has his lackeys find a double to be seen in public, while he engages in some adulterous misbehavior. His look-a-like Dave Kovic is recruited. Dave is the manager of a temporary help agency. Unbeknownst to Dave the President while committing adultery (not unlike the real debauched Bill Clinton) has a stroke and becomes completely incapacitated. Dave, the imposter, is asked to pretend to be the president by the President’s own “Karl Rove” who manipulates Dave, or at least tries to do so.

Near the end of the movie Kevin Kline’s character, the Presidential imposter, makes a speech before the joint session of Congress where he seeks to confess and admit that (the real) president committed crimes. Here is part of that speech:

“…I’d like to apologize to the American people. You see, I forgot that I was hired to do a job for you, and it was just a temp job at that. I forgot that I had 250 million (now 300+ almost half of the increase is due to illegal aliens) people, who were expecting me to make their lives a little bit better and I didn’t live up to my part of the bargain.

“You see I think that there are certain things you should expect from your President. I ought to care more about you than I do about me. I ought to care more about what is right than about what is popular. I ought to be willing to give up the whole thing for something I believe in . . .”

This is a good and appropriate message for our current and future presidents to practice.

RATING

***** out of *****. There were just a couple of adult-oriented scenes. It is not a family movie for that reason. But it is a movie that would be enjoyed by a politically active or politically interested individual. I recommend this movie.

Road to Perdition (2002)

Although the title of the movie, Road to Perdition, might be an apt description for the 2008 Presidential election as it progresses toward November, it is more about mob politics. The movie is the story of the life and death of a hit man, who works for the mob in the 1930s.

Tom Hanks and Paul Newman star in this violent movie, but meaningful parable of right and wrong. Tom Hank’s character was an apparent orphan raised by a mob leader. He repays his “father” with loyal “service.” However, when a hit goes wrong the mob turns on him.

One fateful day the hit man’s young son, curious as to what kind of work his father does, hides away as a stowaway in the back seat of the car as his father and the mob leader’s son call pay a “friendly” visit to someone who insulted the mob boss. His son witnesses the hit. Then the ‘fun’ begins.

It turns out that the hit man becomes the hunted and spends a good part of the movie running and trying to avenge his wife and younger son’s murder. Hank and his son spend “quality” time together, getting to know and appreciate each other before Hank’s character is finally the victim of a hit himself, again witnessed by his son.

Among the lessons learned from this movie are: (1) crime doesn’t pay, it costs dearly, (2) your crimes will be found out, (3) loyalty between criminals is illusive, (4) even in the worst of criminals there is a spark of morality and wanting to do right, and (5) family is one of the most important priorities in life.

The movie depicts the turmoil that the Tom Hank’s hit man character goes through. He wants to provide for his family, and is thankful for job that the mob leaders provide for him.

The movie was apparently a pretty big hit in 2002. I picked the movie up in a Wal-Mart DVD bargain bin. I had never seen it before. I liked the period cars, the se and the acting.

RATING

It is a **** out of ***** because of the violence. It is a movie meant for adults. It is a suspense-filled movie, which overall ends on a good note. It is definitely a worthwhile movie to watch.

COMMENTS

Ann Coulter contends that Hillary Rodham-Clinton is more ‘conservative’ than the ‘would-be, self-proclaimed conservative’ John 'Amnesty Amigo' McCain. Ann is usually right on the money.
Actually I would not vote for either McCain or Mitt 'The Flip' Romney anymore than I would vote for either of the two leftist Democrats for President . . .

The Church in Politics

I received this powerful quote today from friend Karl that should encourage Christians in regard to their involvement in the political arena.

The church must take right ground in regard to politics. Politics are a part of a religion in a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as part of their duty to God. . . . He will bless or curse this nation according to the course Christians take in politics.

- Charles Finney

(Historical note: As a law school student, Finney studied the standard legal text, Blackstone's Law. This text constantly cited the Bible as the basis and authority for U.S. Laws. Through studying the verses on which American law was based, Finney the law student became a Christian. He then became one of the greatest revival evangelists in U.S. history. Finney was also an outspoken opponent of slavery, and a defender of the illegal and lifesaving Underground Railroad that brought liberty and justice to slaves.)

Source

One additional note: Isn't it ironic that this same Charles Finney served as President of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, which is now one of the most radically liberal colleges in America. He is spinning in his grave over the miserable condition of that godless institution today. Harvard and Yale and many other colleges were originally Christian institutions. . .

Two Hundred and Forty-Six Traitors

Not too long ago the House of Representatives voted on a non-binding resolution to not increase the troop strength in Baghdad, Iraq in order to stop the violence against the population there. This was part of President Bush’s new strategy in the war on terror in Iraq. This shows that they do not want a stable government friendly to the United States in that country. Nor are they against the violence to the populace that goes on in Iraq. They also seem satisfied to have the violent terrorists run the country. They are also willing for those who have befriended the United States to be put to death just as our friends in Vietnam were put to death when we pulled out of Vietnam in the seventies.

There was no outcry from these same people about the deaths caused by the Communist North Vietnam military. They say America cannot win. They also have no faith in Almighty God. Nor do they fear God in their personal lives.

I am reminded of when Israel was to go into the land of Canaan and twelve spies were sent into the land for forty days to scout out and assess the situation. Ten of the spies came back with an evil report saying they could not win in a battle or series of battles against the inhabitants of Canaan. Two spies said they could win and should go up at once and take the land. The people believed the ten spies. As a result God was angry with the ten spies and the people. The ten spies died shortly thereafter and Israel wondered for 40 years in the desert until a new generation came along willing to follow God into the land of Canaan.

One day Satan will be stripped of his power and majesty and those who see him will say, “Is this the one who caused the nations to tremble and weakened the nations? He has become as weak as us.” He weakens the nations by turning men’s hearts from God. They have no faith in anyone greater than themselves nor do they believe there is someone greater than themselves able to help them. They do not live lives pleasing to God and therefore insure His wrath instead of His blessing. This in turn weakens the resolve of a nation.

America has many sins, which weakens it. First, is secularism, which is godlessness. Second is the shedding of innocent blood, abortion and embryonic stem cell research and euthanasia. Third is homosexuality. Fourth is cursing Israel with the land for peace and trying to have a Palestinian State. Fifth, is bad sexual behavior, bestiality, adultery, as well as others. Sin is a reproach to any nation even the United States of America.

Be not deceived, God is not mocked, whatsoever a nation sows, it shall also reap.

A Force of Will

A force of will, that in a nutshell is the story of William Wilberforce as portrayed in the new movie, Amazing Grace (2007), which premiered across the United States this past Friday. It is an extraordinary portrayal of one man’s God-driven gut-wrenching passion to right the injustice of a popular and profitable slave trade.

It includes the intertwined story of the Reverend John Newton, who was himself a reformed and repentant slave trader. John Newton was also William Wilberforce’s Pastor as Wilberforce was growing up. By the way, John Newton is also the writer of the great hymn which also serves as the title of the movie.

This true story is inspiring to any politically activist or Conservative Christian politician, who wonders if one man can make a difference. The odds were greatly stacked against Wilberforce, who was a member of the British Parliament, and who stood nearly alone at first in his anti-slave trade cause. It challenges us never to give up, to keep pursuing and persisting.

At one point in the story after Wilberforce had recently become a born-again, true Christian believer he questioned what his role in politics was, if any. We wondered if God wanted him to be a preacher. Those around him, especially several abolitionists, provided him with a very convincing argument that he would be actually doing the Lord’s work in pursuing the cause to eliminate the slave trade in all of the British Empire.

Wilberforce gave a great deal of his youth, his vigor, his health to the cause. After a brief illness and accompanied discouragement he was encouraged and challenged by his future wife to continue in the battle. The relationship reinvigorated Wilberforce to continue in this mighty cause. Over a twenty-year period he went from being virtually alone in his battle in Parliament, 300 to one odds, to eventual victory with only 26 opposing votes leading to the passage of the act that stopped the slave trade across all of the Empire.

While watching the movie, especially the scenes depicting the boisterous debate in the Parliament, I could not help but think of present day injustices virtually being ignored by mainstream tenured politicos and their not so silent accomplices in the media.

Today’s anti-slave trade or the abolitionist movement is the pro-life or anti-abortion movement. Pro-life forces have been waging for 30 plus years battle to end this equally insidious heinous barbaric practice with seemingly little success. The forces of evil in the abortion axis of evil include the Supreme Court, the Democrat Party, the liberal elite throughout this country and powerful abortion and other left wing lobby and leftist organizations such as NARAL and Planned Parenthood Federation of America. They also include their socialist comrades in cahoots, the NEA, the ACLU, NOW, radical feminists, George Soros and other well heeled financiers of a life-destroying, society-destroying and values-destroying mindset.

Secondarily to the wickedness of abortion is the equally wrong proliferation of the sex slave trade involving woman and children, which is becoming more and more prevalent in America as well as the rest of the world. Both of these evils need champions both in and out of office to be a force, like Wilberforce was as he fought injustice and evil of his day.

Furthermore, while Wilberforce was battling the foes of abolution in England, George Washington and other founding Fathers wre establishing a new country, which would also embrace the anti-slave movement, but would have to fight a costly Civil War over it. The things that most of our Founders and Wilberforce had in common was a faith in God and in the Lord Jesus Christ. However, this is not acknowledged at all, if ever in today's modern "enlightened" age. This movie is a much needed reminder of a time when men where not afraid to hold and embrace their principles at all costs. They did not fear being politically incorrect, as so many do today.

These are the take-aways from the movie for me, the great lessonw that I took from this must-see movie. It was well worth the 70 miles I drove to see it! Look for it at a movie theater near you. If you like a fast moving picture, excellent acting, true heroism, true human struggle, and an uplifting and inspiring true historical account you would love this film. I highly recommend it to young and old and in-between. It brings history to life and to light.

My Movie Rating: * * * * *
