ObamaCare: Abortion's Trojan Horse

Article updated 6:00 AM, 8/17/09

This morning I heard on the news that the President is willing to drop the public option requirement in his so-called healthcare reform plan. Pressure is mounting in opposition to this unneeded and grossly flawed plan. There is more wrong with the plan than just the public option. He still is intent on passing healthcare 'reform' yet this year.

Following the abominable action of Notre Dame University earlier this year, when its administration invited radically pro-death President Soetoro a/k/a Obama to deliver its commencement address and to receive an honorary doctorate degree, other Catholic organizations are attempting to outdo the school in terms of atrocious behavior. Earlier this month, several large and influential Catholic social and health organizations encouraged their members to support the current ObamaCare supposed healthcare reform bill.

"Why would Catholic Charities USA do this? Well guess what, 5 days after endorsing ObamaCare, Catholic Charities USA, got its first ever federal contract worth $100 million dollars. In other words, JUDAS just got paid! ---American Life League (ALL), August 9, 2009

Catholic Charities USA, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Catholic Health Association have all thrown their weight behind (President Soetoro a/k/a) Obama's push for health care reform. In response, American Life League (ALL) exposes the Trojan Horse hidden in the bill that opens the way for abortion in the video embedded below. ALL is calling on Catholics and other Pro-Life proponents to demand that the bill be scrapped!

Following the video is a transcript of this important video. This video contains a great deal of ammunition for those who oppose the dastardly so-called health care reform bill and who want America to hold to a culture of life, rather than move even more toward a culture of death. Moving to secular socialism is exactly what this bill, euphemistically referred to as America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 or HR 3200, or ObamaCare, or the Euthanasia Bill, or the Abortion Bill, or Universal Healthcare, or Socialized Medicine, or Nationalized Medicine or Single Payer Healthcare, does.

“There is an awful lot of talk, and therefore an awful lot of confusion about the ObamaCare Health Reform Bill (HR 3200 - America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009) currently waiting a vote in Congress.

“Some say that the Bill will create universal taxpayer-funded abortions, while others say that abortion is nowhere to be found in the bill.

“Some claim that the bill will obtain optimal healthcare for everyone in the country. And there are those who say the bill is targeting the elderly and infirmed for an early grave.

“And as the name calling begins and the shouting ensues, organizations like Catholic Charities USA, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Catholic Health (hospitals) Association (CHA), and Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) are all working to rally support for (Soetoro aka) Obama’s reform of the healthcare system.

“But if you want to understand what is really happening you must have to bite the bullet and read the bill itself to get to the truth. [gregjaye: Something even most Congressman can’t or won’t do.]

“HR 3200, commonly referred to as ObamaCare (or Universal Healthcare, Socialized Medicine, Nationalized Healthcare or Single-Payer Healthcare), is over 1000 pages long. . . .

“The authors of the ObamaCare bill knew full well that any mention of abortion or Planned Parenthood [gregjaye: the biggest and billion-dollar abortion provider in America] would create an uproar from the majority Pro-Life population of the country. So they created a TROJAN HORSE.

Page 30, Section 123 creates yet another bureaucratic entity called the Health Benefits Advisory Committee whose job it is to define the benefits standards that any plan, public or private must contain. This committee, chaired by the Surgeon General, is the VEHICLE being created by Obama and his cronies, to claim that abortion is NOT in the ObamaCare Bill, while enabling them to [gregjaye: stealthily and conveniently] insert it into the Plan once it is passed

This is exactly why (Soetoro alias) Obama, Pelosi, and Peter Orszag have deliberately dodged whether abortion would be covered under the bill.

[The following are excerpts of video taped evidence showing how each dodged the issue.]

On Fox News Mike Wallace asked Peter Orszag (Director of Management and Budget) whether he was prepared to say government taxpayer-funded health insurance plan that no taxpayer money would go to pay for abortions. Orszag’s reply, “Ahhh, I think that will wind up being part of the debate. I am not prepared to say ahhh explicitly right now,

Pelosi: That’s not, that’s not, that’s not the issue. The issue is people go out there to . . .we’ll be working on that issue . . .

(Soetoro aka) Obama: You know, what I think is important at this stage is not trying to micromanage what benefits are covered . . .

Now you know why Henry Waxman held an emergency session late in the night to strike down the amendment that would bar the commission from being included abortion in the benefits.

“But the TROJAN HORSE Commission isn’t the only section hiding the culture of death.

“Pages 769-777 contain a section (Section 1714) “State Eligibility Option for Family Planning Services.” We all know that “family planning is code for birth control and abortion. So when the bill refers to “family Planning services” in “family planning settings,” we all know that the author is talking about ABORTION INDUSTRIALISTS like Planned Parenthood!

“Now, given this blatant attempt to sneak ABORTION into the package, you can understand why Catholics are OUTRAGED by the support that Catholic Charities USA, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Catholic Health Association (CHA) are giving ObamaCare.

"In their action alerts these groups told members and supporters:

The House of Representatives introduced a health care reform bill yesterday afternoon members of Congress are debating this week. . . . Your members of Congress need to hear form you that you SUPPORT healthcare reform, and that the system needs to be reformed now.

"The Catholic Health (Hospitals, etc.) Association (CHA) even produced a video, which begins with a a clip of (Soetoro aka) Obama rallying Congress to support his healthcare plan, and the de Paul Society posted the video on its website.

“Why? Why would Catholic Charities do this? Well guess what, 5 days after endorsing ObamaCare, Catholic Charities USA, got its first ever
federal contract worth $100 million dollars. In other words, JUDAS just got paid!"

COMMENT

I looked at all three Catholic organizations' websites, which ALL referred to in their video. I found evidence that on one side of their proverbial mouths they support current healthcare 'reform' and on the other they oppose any reform that includes abortion, conscience protection or senicide (euthanizing or premature killing of elderly). It is unclear where they really stand. It reminds me of the fuzzy positions of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) in terms of abortion and homosexuality under one of their former leaders Richard Cizak. You can read those articles here.

TAKE ACTION

(1) Catholics need to call their Bishops and ask them to tell Catholic Charities, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, and Catholic Health Association (CHA) that they must NOT support or in any way support (Soetoro alias) Obama’s Death Care Bill . . . (see
www.Canon915.org)

(2) Everyone should call their Congressman and demand that they vote to scrap HR 3200.

Help Stop Obama's Abortion Mandate NOW

I received an email today, which came from the Concerned Women of America organization, and I signed the mentioned petitioned below and urge you to do as well:

Picture this ... Uncle Sam standing on any street corner in the nation doling out birth control pills -- including the “Morning After” abortion pill to all women who wanted it absolutely free of charge!
Standing behind Uncle Sam is you and me ...

The fact that this is just another massive government hand-out means that you and I -- regardless of our religious convictions, will be forced into paying for and promoting birth-control, sterilization and early-term “Morning After” abortions?
I’m not standing silently while the Obama Administration violates my moral compass.

+ + Stopping ObamaCare Abortion Mandate
Two weeks from now when Congress returns from their recess, Concerned Women for America is                   eager to greet them with an avalanche of angry petitions -- thousands of them each opposing the ObamaCare Abortion mandate and demanding it be removed!

Without the help of  Pro-Life Christians and Conservative liberty-loving Americans the Health and Human Services Department (HHS) will begin actively promoting and handing out FREE birth-control and we will be forced to pay for it through higher insurance premiums!

Santorum Is Not as Slick as the Other Rick, but is Just as Sick

Rick Santorum is, according to the progressive propaganda machine, “a right wing extremist”.  But is this really true?  Santorum says that his positions are about the same as Bachmann’s, but he claims that he is better at “getting things done” or that he has more “proven leadership”.  Yeah, that kind of sounds like Tim Pawlenty’s criticism only more politely stated.  “So you voted against the bailouts, Obamacare, and the stimulus.  It’s still your fault that all these things happened because of your lack of leadership even though you have only been in the House of Representatives for two terms and you are only one of the 435 of its members.”  (This is not an exact quote from either Pawlenty or Santorum, but basically that is what they said.)  This is an incredible, if not disturbing claim.  If you’re clever, you can read between the lines to see what Santorum and Pawlenty are really saying.  They are insulted by this new upstart who has only been in Congress for two terms.  She hasn’t yet “paid her dues”.  They have done more political favors than Bachmann.  They have more “chips to cash in” that will help them win the election and get legislation passed.  (But they have nothing in that regard compared to Rick Perry.)  That is what is really behind Santorum’s statement that he is better at “getting things done” and “leadership”.

Consider the language contained in the Department of Health and Human Services appropriations bill, H.R. 4606 of the 103rd Congress that Santorum voted for:

SEC. 509. None of the funds appropriated under this Act shall be expended for any abortion except when it is made known to the Federal entity or official to which funds are appropriated under this Act that such procedure is necessary to save the life of the mother or that the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest.

(Click on text of legislation, the enrolled bill [H.R.4606.ENR], then click on “OPERATING EXPENSES” and find section 509 under Title V.  Find the House roll call vote under “Major Congressional Actions” or click here.)

What’s worse that the fact that the appropriated money could be used for abortions in cases of rape and incest is that abortion providers received no small amount of money from this bill which they could use for purposes other than abortion.  These funds were used indirectly to support abortion.  And this is not the only instance of Santorum voting for abortion funding.  There is also H.R. 2518 of the 103rd Congress (again find it under Title V, section 509).  Here is the language in H.R. 3061 of the 107th Congress, which Santorum also voted for:

SEC. 509. (a) The limitations established in the preceding section shall not apply to an abortion--
(1) if the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest; or
(2) in the case where a woman suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself, that would, as certified by a physician, place the woman in danger of death unless an abortion is performed.
(b) Nothing in the preceding section shall be construed as prohibiting the expenditure by a State, locality, entity, or private person of State, local, or private funds (other than a State's or locality's contribution of Medicaid matching funds).
(c) Nothing in the preceding section shall be construed as restricting the ability of any managed care provider from offering abortion coverage or the ability of a State or locality to contract separately with such a provider for such coverage with State funds (other than a State's or locality's contribution of Medicaid matching funds).

(Again find it under Title V, section 509.)

Santorum has the gall to accuse his opponents of being pro-choice* just because they believe that abortion should legal in cases of rape and incest while at the same time, he sees nothing wrong with voting for bills that fund abortion, even while there is a Republican President and a Republican majority in both Houses!  If this is what he means by “getting things done”, we don’t want it!  Santorum took Bachmann’s side against Ron Paul in the argument that the states do not have a Constitutional right to mandate the purchase of healthcare coverage.  So it’s not OK for the states to pass a healthcare mandate, but it is OK for you Repugnants to pass a mandate that says that we must pay for these abortions?  Career politicians like Santorum think that if they fall in line and vote for !@#$ like this, then later they can undo the harm that they caused once they get more power.  But it never works and the warped desire for more power and the compromising never ends.

Santorum refused to intervene in the selection of fellow Pennsylvanian and then Republican Arlen Specter to chairmanship of the House Judiciary.  “It’s not my place to interfere,” he said.  Not only that, he actually campaigned for Specter, who, after being elected to the term that Santorum helped him to win, became a Democrat and voted for Obamacare!  Now how’s that for “leadership”?  Is this pot smoker going to legislate his brand of morality as our President?  No he won’t, because, as I said, he has not done nearly as many political favors as Rick Perry.  Santorum will drop out as soon as he gets over the delusion that he might actually win.

*Chris Wallace said this in one of the recent debates and Santorum didn’t deny it.

Supreme Court will hear cases against the ObamaCare abortion pill mandate

Ordinarily, I do not tend to donate money to law firms, even Christian-based organizations which defend religious liberty.  This is because I don't always agree with the positions of these organizations and some of the money could be used against Constitutional principles such as the right to be secure in one's person, house, and in effects.  Sometimes I agree with what they're trying to do, but their methods may cause more harm than good.  But in the case made against Obama's abortion pill mandate for Christian-owned businesses, I would highly recommend supporting the Alliance Defending Freedom and the Becket Fund.  Read more about it below.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced today it will review two lawsuits challenging the ObamaCare abortion pill mandate, including one filed by Conestoga Wood Specialties and its owners, the Hahn family.
Alliance Defending Freedom represents the Hahn family, and we are asking the High Court to declare the mandate illegal and unconstitutional because it prevents them from operating their business in accordance with their faith.
The other case accepted by the Supreme Court involves the Oklahoma-based company Hobby Lobby, which is being handled by our friends at the Becket Fund.
We are pleased that the High Court agreed to hear both cases so we can show the many ways employers live out their faith through their business practices.
Thank you for your prayers for the Hahn family and Conestoga Wood Specialties, and for all employers who are challenging the abortion pill mandate.
Please continue to be in prayer for these cases and oral arguments which will be held in late March, 2014.  A decision by the Court is expected by the end of June.  Learn more about these crucial cases.
You can be sure the battle will be long and hard-fought.  Our opponents have all the resources of the federal government at their disposal.
If you would like to help defend the Hahn family, you may give a gift. You can help ensure the resources are available to see this fight through to the end.
Thank you and God bless you.

Another Obama Deception

.
President Lies, More Babies Die
.
The President's Healthcare Reform Plan:
.
"A high-taxing, poorly thought-out, and taxpayer-funding-of-abortion monstrosity."
.
- - - Tom McClusky, Family Research Council
.
.
Hat Tip goes to the American Family Association (AFA), which alerted me to action by our government in funding abortion in one of the states. Much of the following information was provided by AFA.
.
President (Barry Soetoro a/k/a) Barack Obama deceived Bart Stupak and the handful of pro-life Democratic Congressman the President needed to pass the healthcare deform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year. He also misled the entire American public on ObamaCare funding for abortions. Apparently in the eyes of this regime, the end justifies the means, even it includes deceit and lies.

Today’s award to the state of Pennsylvania of a grant for $160 million to fund abortion is proof of that deception. It is merely the first volley in an expanded war against defenseless pre-born human beings! Moreover, by providing the $160 million dollars to Pennsylvania to set up a new high-risk insurance pool that will cover every abortion that is legal in that state, abortions will now use my tax dollar in funding a morally reprehensible act.

TAKE ACTION

Join me in sending emails to our senators and representative today urging them to revoke federal taxpayer funding of abortions in Pennsylvania. In addition, prevail upon them to repeal ObamaCare in its entirety and defund it in the meantime
.
Click
here to facilitate an easy way to contact your senators and representative. Here is a sample copy of the text, which you could send to your federal legislators:

July 15, 2010

The Honorable Sherrod Brown
United States Senate
713 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-3503

Re: New Healthcare Reform Bill Funds Abortion Already!

Dear Senator Brown:

The president signed an executive order this spring barring the use of federal funds to finance abortions under the new health care reform law.

Despite this order, his Department of Health and Human Services is now giving $160 million to the state of Pennsylvania to set up a new high-risk insurance pool that will cover any abortion that is legal in the state.

I join many Americans in expressing my outrage that federal funds are being used to pay for abortions after the president's promise that nothing of the sort would happen.

I urge you to revoke this use of my federal taxpayer dollars to destroy innocent human life in the womb. Please work to repeal ObamaCare in its entirety and defund it in the meantime. The President used deceit to pass the legislation. Apparently he no intention to keep or to abide by his executive order. It was just a ploy, a ploy to destroy more pre-born human beings!

Sincerely,

Occupy the Womb, not Occupy Wall Street!

It’s a baby, a growing and developing human being, that occupies the womb of every expectant mother, not a blob of tissue, not a malignant growth that needs to be excised for convenience. I received an interesting email today from the Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List. It was a request for support. However, in that request were some real thoughtful admonitions and considerations regarding abortion, the Pro-Life cause, and the present political environment.

Hat tip goes to Emily Buchanan, Executive Director, Susan B. Anthony List, whose email I quote in part:

This week on their lunch break, my staff carved a pumpkin for Halloween with the beautiful image of an unborn child in the womb and the phrase “Occupy the Womb.” It was a play on the recent political scene, but it served as a reminder:  the one thing that every one of us has in common is the time we spent in the womb of our mother.
As you know, today a mother’s womb is one of the most dangerous places in the world.
Each day in our country, four thousand unborn children have their lives violently ended in the womb. As if the loss of such innocent life wasn’t enough, the injustice doesn’t stop there. Mothers are wounded, and relationships are destroyed. …

THE ENEMIES OF LIFE AND LIBERTY
The insidious and increasing corrupt Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the biggest abortion provider in the United States. A large part of its business model has to do with making money on murdering babies. It desperately seeks Taxpayer funding to continue to subsidize its dastardly deeds. Money is fungible and while PPFA claims to use the funds it receives through Title X to ‘help’ women and families, those funds allow the abortion end of this vile business to continue to fester and thrive.  Buchanan highlights in her email the intimate, dangerous, and symbiotic relationship between the present Obama regime and the deceitful PPFA:

Just this past week, Planned Parenthood hired a new “Vice President for Public Policy and Government Relations,” Dana Singiser.
Guess where Dana worked prior to accepting the job with Planned Parenthood?  The Obama White House, where she worked as a special assistant to the President. The news outlet POLITICO reported that she was a “key part of the legislative team that helped pass the historic health care reform law,” also known as Obamacare, the largest expansion of abortion on-demand since Roe v. Wade.
You can bet that Dana will be calling up the President each and every time Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding is under attack. And you can bet that the President will be more than willing to do whatever he can to keep the blood money flowing.
This is just another reason why we’ve got to ensure that an authentic pro-life leader replaces him in 2012. …

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE 2012 ELECTION TO LIFE AND LIBERTY
Buchanan closes her email with a report of what has been happening in the United States Congress this past year and what the future holds for the cause of Life and Liberty. There has been some progress, yet there has been major 'progressive' or Democratic Party resistance. She also warns about the upcoming election in 2012:

Just this year, over $60 million in taxpayer funds has been stripped from Planned Parenthood at the state level. Furthermore, the House of Representatives has passed groundbreaking pro-life legislation, including the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, the Protect Life Act, and the Pence Amendment to defund Planned Parenthood. And for the first time ever, Congress is investigating Planned Parenthood thanks to the courageous leadership of Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL).
But many of our pro-life advances are being thwarted by a pro-abortion Senate and the most radically pro-abortion President to ever occupy the White House. Your SBA List is working overtime to change this, and we need all hands on deck moving forward.

THE MIGHT OF WHAT'S RIGHT
We would be wise to listen to and to act upon the plea of Emily Buchanan and support the work of SBA List and similar organizations. We must elect a conservative President and many more conservative members of Congress, especially Senators.

Michele Bachmann Voting Record

This is a series of articles which gives voting record information about 2012 presidential candidates.  Most of the references given are from thomas.loc.gov, an official government website which is part of the Library of Congress.  Hopefully, this information will help you to make a decision about who you are going to vote for.  Also included is a brief biography and information about endorsements made by the candidate.  Today's candidate is Michele Bachmann.  Click here to read part 1.

Michele Bachmann has 5 children.  She and her husband took in 23 teenage girls with eating disorders into their home as foster children to help them to overcome their problem.  She and her husband own a Christian mental healthcare counseling practice which employs 50 people.  Bachmann worked for the IRS as a Federal tax litigation attorney for 5 years.

She has served two full terms in the House of Representatives.  She currently serves on the Financial Services Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is also a member of bipartisan Congressional Prayer Caucus. She is the founder of the House Tea Party Caucus.

Abortion

Michele Bachmann is a cosponsor of the Life at Conception Act. [1] But she is not cosponsor of the Sanctity of Human Life Act. [2] She is not a cosponsor of Ron Paul’s Sanctity of Life Act of 2011. [3]

She has never voted for any budget that includes funding for Planned Parenthood. She has never voted for a Department of Health and Human Services appropriations bill.  These bills always make federal funds available for abortion providers.  Although, if these bills did not pass, some people would likely have their Medicare and/or Medicaid benefits cut off.  She is a cosponsor of Mike Pence’s Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. [5, 6]  She is a cosponsor of the Protect Life Act (which would disallow most abortion funding which could result from Obamacare). [7] She voted for the Stupak-Pitts amendment to Obamacare. [8, 9] She voted for the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act[10]

[4] Several such votes have taken place in Michele Bachmann’s five years in Congress.  If you check through the records at thomas.loc.gov, you will find this to be true.

Constitutional Separation of Powers

She is a cosponsor of the Enumerated Powers Act which would require Congress to specify the source of authority under the United States Constitution for the enactment of laws.

Drugs

Michele Bachmann is not a cosponsor of any bills to legalize, decriminalize, or reduce sentencing for drug offenses. [1-4] She did not cosponsor a bill introduced in the last two congresses that would allow federal tax money to be used to distribute syringes to drug addicts for the purpose of preventing the spread of AIDS and hepatitis.  [5]

The Economy and Jobs

She has not cosponsored the National Right to Work Act which would prevent workers from being forced to join a union.  [1, 2] (See also the Monetary Policy and Taxes, Spending, and Budget Issues sections.)

Education

She is not a cosponsor of Ron Paul’s Family Education Freedom Act [1] or his Education Improvement Tax Cut Act [2].  She voted for Head Start expansion which expanded federal funding for the education of pre-K kids and for more social service involvement in the lives of the targeted families. [3, 4]

Energy and the Environment

Michele Bachmann supports legislation to stop unnecessary regulations on offshore oil drilling and the building of refineries. [1-4] She voted “no” on Cap and Trade and cosponsored a bill to prevent the EPA from enacting it without the approval of Congress. [5, 6] She has supported many other bills to prevent the regulation of greenhouse gases. [7-10] She has introduced legislation to repeal the ban on incandescent light bulbs. [11]

Guns

Michele Bachmann has never voted for any bill to outlaw any type of weapon.  She is a cosponsor of the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. [1] But she did not cosponsor Ron Paul’s bill to make it legal for airline pilots to carry guns to prevent to terrorists attacks. [2]

Healthcare

Michele Bachmann voted no on Obamacare, voted for bills to repeal it [1,2,3] and several bills to repeal parts of it [e.g., 4,5].  She supports legislation to eliminate the exemption of federal officials from being exempted from Obamacare. She supports legislation to repeal the mandate portion of Obamacare. [6] She supports legislation to stop the implementation of Obamacare by defunding it. [7, 8]  She supports a bill to allow Medicare recipients to elect (instead of regular Medicare benefits) to receive a voucher for a health savings account. [9] She supports ending federal excise taxes on medical devices. [10]

Illegal Immigration and Border Control

Michele Bachmann voted “no” on the DREAM act, which would have allowed some illegal immigrants rights reserved for citizens. [1, 2] She supports the No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2011. [3] She supports a bill that would prevent state and local governments from protecting illegal aliens. [4]

Judicial Activism

Michele Bachmann is not a cosponsor of Ron Paul’s “We the People Act”. [1] She is not a cosponsor of legislation which would prevent foreign law from being used in federal courts. [2]

Marriage and Gay Rights

Michele Bachmann supports the Defense of Marriage Act [1] and the Marriage Protection Act [2-4].  She is a cosponsor of the resolution to adopt a Federal Marriage Amendment.  [5]

She voted “no” on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in 2007, which would have protected homosexuals from discrimination in hiring.  [6]

On several occasions she has voted “no” on hate crimes legislation which would have protected homosexuals from “hate speech” [7-10] including one instance in which she voted against a Defense Appropriations bill which contained a hate crimes amendment. [11]

She voted to keep the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy which had prevented the openly gay from serving in the military. [12]

[1] Michele Bachmann was not in the congress at the time that the Defense of Marriage Act was enacted, but has on numerous occasions verbally indicated her opposition to gay marriage.  Her support for DOMA is further indicated by her cosponsorship of the Marriage Protection Act, described in following note.
[2] The Marriage Protection Act is a bill which would make the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act not subject to judicial review.
[11] http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:hr2647: (find Division E in the enrolled bill.  The roll call is at http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll770.xml).

Monetary Policy

Michele Bachmann has not cosponsored Ron Paul’s bill to abolish the Federal Reserve [1], but did cosponsor his bill to audit the Fed. [2] She voted against the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act [3, 4] which gave the Federal Reserve more power and is sponsoring a bill to repeal it. [5]

National Sovereignty

She did not cosponsor Ron Paul’s bill which would get the U.S. out of the U.N. [1] She did not a cosponsor the bill to end the North American Free Trade Agreement. [2] She voted for the Peru Free Trade Agreement. [3, 4]

Religious Freedom and Freedom of Speech

Michele Bachmann is a cosponsor of a bill to prevent the FCC from further regulating the internet. [1] She supports legislation to prevent the FCC from bringing back the “Fairness Doctrine”. [2]

Social Security

Michele Bachmann voted “no” on appropriating $250 for Social Security recipients contingent upon there being no cost of living increase. [1, 2]

Taxes, Spending, and Budget Issues

She voted against the 2010 extension of the Bush tax cuts [1-3].  She has sponsored legislation to end federal inheritance taxes and end the Alternative Minimum Tax on individuals. [4] She voted for the Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011. [5] This repealed the law which would have required you to file a 1099 every time you buy something for $600 or more from a small business. [6, 7]

Michele Bachmann voted “no” on Obama’s economic stimulus bills. [8, 9] She voted to end taxpayer funding of Presidential campaigns. [10] But she has not cosponsored the bill to cut congressional pay by 5%. [11] She has not cosponsored the bill that would require that unused portions of each congressman’s budget be used for deficit or debt reduction. [12] She has not cosponsored the bill (the End the Stimulus Advertisement Act) to ban the use of taxes for highway signs that indicate that a project is funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Obama’s Economic Stimulus Bill). [13]

She supports legislation to require that paying off the debt be given priority over all other obligations if the debt ceiling is reached. [14] She supports legislation which would require that unused money from the economic stimulus bill be used to pay off the National debt. [15] She supports legislation which would require that unused money from the economic stimulus bill be used to pay off the National debt. [16]

She always votes “no” on raising the debt ceiling. [17-19] She supports a balanced budget amendment. [20]

[1] I know that Michele Bachmann voted against this from word of mouth.  The vote for this particular bill was done by voice vote and was not recorded in the archives of the Library of Congress because Congress passed a measure to suspend the rules regarding voting procedure for this bill.  Below are a link to the text of the legislation and an alternative link which has the unofficial vote tally.

Veterans

Michele Bachmann introduced the Military Health Care Affordability Act to prohibit certain increases in fees for military health care. [1] She is a cosponsor of H.R. 186, which would expand benefits for retired and disabled veterans. [2]

War on Terrorism

Michele Bachmann voted against withdrawing troops from Iraq in 2007. [1] She voted against legislation requiring a withdrawal of troops from Pakistan in July of 2010. [2, 3] She voted against legislation requiring a withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan as recently as March 2011. [4] She has a mixed record on voting for the funding of the wars. [5, 6] She supports legislation to continue sanctions against Iran until they give up their nuclear program. [7] She voted for legislation to order Barack Obama to immediately withdrawal troops from Libya.  [8, 9]

Michele Bachmann voted to extend the Patriot Act [10, 11] and voted for the Protect America Act. [12, 13] Michele Bachmann voted for the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Act of 2007 [14, 15], which would have combated adopting an “extremist belief system” (thus making even someone’s thoughts a crime).  The bill warns that “violent radicalization” spans all religious beliefs (no exception is given for Christianity or Judaism). Michele Bachmann voted for the COPS bill, which was introduced by Anthony Weiner to continue the federalization of law enforcement funding. [16, 17] Michele Bachmann is not a cosponsor of Ron Paul’s American Traveler Dignity Act. [18] Michele Bachmann voted against allowing prisoners at Guantanamo Bay to be tried in U.S. courts. ObamaCare: 10 Key Questions, Part 1 - Abortion

Questions to ask our [Doctors,] Senators and Representative about ObamaCare

This is the first in a series of questions about ObamaCare (i.e., Socialized Medicine, Universal Healthcare, Single-Payer Healthcare, Government-Run Healthcare, or Nationalized Healthcare) that conservative and Christian patriots should strongly consider asking our U.S. Representatives and U. S. Senators over the next month, while the Congress is taking its summer recess. If the unnecessary and freedom-robbing healthcare reform being forged and forced by the current administration and the current Democrat-controlled Congress is to be stopped, it is through the voices of many Americans – We the People. It’s a priority TEA Party action item.

The questions were developed by
Gary Bower (American Values) and are intended to be used in interactions in our Senators and Representatives during the next 30 days. President Obama has already conceded that there probably won't be a vote on healthcare reform until "the end of September or the middle of October." That means we have August to attend town hall meetings with our representatives and senators, stop by their congressional offices, write letters to the editor and educate our friends and family members about the dangers of socialized medicine. Don Wildmon of the American Family Association (AFA) encourages his supporters to form groups as part of the process of engaging members of Congress.

1. ABORTION. Pro-choice groups, like NARAL and Planned Parenthood, are demanding that abortion be covered in any healthcare reform bill. In a recent interview with Politico, Laurie Rubiner, vice president for public policy and advocacy at Planned Parenthood, defends this demand by saying, "the alternative would be slashing benefits for millions of women who currently have [private] coverage for abortions..." In addition, key administration officials refuse to rule out abortion coverage. When asked on Fox News Sunday whether taxpayer money would go to pay for abortions, White House Budget Director Peter Orszag replied, "I am not prepared to say explicitly that right now. It's obviously a controversial issue, and it's one of the questions that is playing out in this debate."

Pro-life senators on the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee forced a roll call vote on the issue when Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) attempted to add an amendment to the healthcare bill that would, in her words, "include women's health clinics that provide comprehensive services...deemed medically necessary or appropriate." She admitted that such "health clinics" would include Planned Parenthood. The pro-life amendment to prohibit funding of abortion lost 11-to-12.

Question for your Congressmen: Will you oppose any healthcare reform bill that uses my tax dollars to pay for abortions?

Voting Record of Ron Paul

This is a series of articles which gives voting record information about 2012 presidential candidates.  Most of the references given are from thomas.loc.gov, an official government website which is part of the Library of Congress.  Hopefully, this information will help you to make a decision about who you are going to vote for.  Also included is a brief biography and information about endorsements made by the candidate.  Today's candidate is Ron Paul.

Ron Paul

Ron Paul is an OB/GYN and has delivered over 4000 babies.  He has been married to his wife for over 50 years.  He was an Air Force flight surgeon during the Vietnam War.  (He is one of only two candidates who have ever been in the military.)  He has served 11 terms in Congress and has run for President twice before (1988 and 2008).  He received more campaign contributions from those active in and veterans of military than any other candidate in both 2008 and in this election [1].  He was recently chosen to be the chairman of the House Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee.  His son Rand, a Tea Party favorite, was recently elected to the U.S. Senate in Kentucky.

He has never voted for a Congressional pay raise and has never taken a government-paid junket.  He doesn’t participate in the lucrative congressional pension benefits program.  He always returns unused portions of his congressional office budget to the treasury.

One criticism I have of Mr. Paul is that he has missed several important votes.

Ron Paul has announced that he will not run for reelection to Congress.

Abortion

Ron Paul is the author of the Sanctity of Life Act of 2011, which would define human life and personhood as beginning at conception and would nullify Roe v. Wade. [1] He used to cosponsor the “Right to Life Act” (now known as the Life at Conception Act), but has not in the last several congresses. [2] He is not a cosponsor of the Sanctity of Human Life Act in the current congress. [3] (See also Judicial Activism.)

He has never voted for any budget that includes funding for Planned Parenthood. He has never voted for a Department of Health and Human Services appropriations bill.  These bills always make federal funds available for abortion providers.  Although, if these bills did not pass, some people would likely have their Medicare and/or Medicaid benefits cut off.  [4] He has introduced the Taxpayers’ Freedom of Conscience Act to cut off all taxpayer funding of abortions (both domestic and foreign) and so-called “family planning”. [5] He has supported many other measures which limit the access of funding to abortion providers. [6-10] He voted for the Stupak-Pitts amendment to Obamacare.  (This would have prevented most abortions from being funded with Obamacare money.) [11, 12]  He said, “I will veto any spending bill that contains funding for Planned Parenthood, facilities that perform abortion and all government family planning schemes.” [13]

[4] You have to check through a lot of records to verify these facts since so there have been so many of these bills voted on over Ron Paul’s 20+ years in Congress.

Constitutional Separation of Powers

Ron Paul is a cosponsor of the Sunset All Czars Act. [1] He is also a cosponsor of the Enumerated Powers Act which would require Congress to specify the source of authority under the United States Constitution for the enactment of laws. [2]

Drugs

Ron Paul is outspoken critic of the war on drugs.  He has sponsored bills to legalize hemp [1] and marijuana [2].  He also cosponsors legislation which would eliminate the legal distinction between crack cocaine and other forms of cocaine. [3, 4]  He was a cosponsor of a bill in the last two congresses that would allow federal tax money to be used to distribute syringes to drug addicts for the purpose of preventing the spread of AIDS and hepatitis. [5]

Economy and Jobs

He has been a consistent supporter of the National Right to Work Act which would prevent workers from being forced to join a union. [1, 2]  (See also the Monetary Policy and Taxes, Spending, and Budget Issues sections.)

Education

He is the sponsor of the Family Education Freedom Act [1] which would give a tax credit of up to $5000 per year to anyone who spends their own money on K-12 education of their children.  Another bill [2] he introduced would give the same $5000 tax credit to those who donate to charitable organizations which use the money to provide scholarships or instructional materials for K-12 education.

Energy and the Environment

Ron Paul has introduced legislation to stop unnecessary regulations on offshore oil drilling and the building of refineries. [1-5] He voted no on Cap and Trade [6] and cosponsored a bill to prevent the EPA from enacting it without the approval of Congress. [7] He has supported many other bills to prevent the regulation of greenhouse gases. [8-10] He is a cosponsor of Michele Bachmann’s bill to repeal the ban on incandescent light bulbs.

Gun Rights

Ron Paul has never voted for any bill to outlaw any type of weapon. [1] He has voted several times (as far back as 2001) to make it legal for airline pilots to carry guns to prevent to terrorists attacks. [2]

[1] Again, you have to check through a lot records to prove this.

Healthcare

Ron Paul voted no on Obamacare and voted for bills to repeal it [1,2,3,4] and several bills to repeal parts of it [4,5,6,7] and to allow states to opt out of it [8].  He supports legislation to eliminate the provision that federal officials are exempted from Obamacare. [9] He supports legislation to make it easier for Americans buy prescription drugs from other countries. [10] He supports legislation to repeal the mandate portion of Obamacare. [11, 12] He supports a bill to allow Medicare recipients to elect (instead of regular Medicare benefits) to receive a voucher for a health savings account.[13] He supports tax deductions for medical related expenses [14] and ending federal excise taxes on medical devices [15, 16].

Illegal Immigration and Border Control

Ron Paul voted “no” on the DREAM act, which would have allowed some illegal immigrants to receive financial aid for college and other federal benefits paid for by American taxpayers. [1, 2]  Ron Paul voted for Secure Fence Act of 2006. [3, 4]  He introduced a bill called the Terror Immigration Elimination Act of 2007, which would have limited the issuance of student and diversity immigrant visas to aliens who are nationals of Saudi Arabia, countries that support terrorism, or countries not cooperating fully with United States antiterrorism efforts. [5]

Judicial Activism

Ron Paul is the sponsor of the most aggressive anti-judicial activist bill to be introduced into the Congress.  The “We the People Act” would prevent federal judges from striking down state laws against abortion, prevent them from forcing states to accept gay marriage, and would prevent them from prohibiting religious freedom and freedom of speech in public places.  The bill authorizes the removal of any judge who would defy it. [1] He is a cosponsor of legislation which would prevent foreign law from being used in federal courts. [2]

Marriage and Gay Rights

Ron Paul supports the Defense of Marriage Act [1] and the Marriage Protection Act. [2-4] He voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. [5] He voted “no” on hate crimes legislation which would have protected homosexuals from “hate speech”. [6, 7]  He voted against a Defense Appropriations bill which contained a hate crimes amendment. [8] He voted to end the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy which had prevented the openly gay from serving in the military. [9]

[1] Ron Paul was not in the congress at the time that the Defense of Marriage Act was enacted, but has on numerous occasions verbally indicated his support for this bill.  His support is further indicated by his cosponsorship of the Marriage Protection Act, described in the next note.
[2] The Marriage Protection Act is a bill which would make the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act not subject to judicial review.

Monetary Policy

While no one else has supported Ron Paul’s bill to abolish the Federal Reserve [1], his bill to audit the Fed [2] was very popular in last Congress.  He got the support of every Republican in the House of Representatives plus over 100 Democrats.  But the bill didn’t pass because the Senate rejected it.  He voted against the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act which gave the Federal Reserve more power. [3, 4]  He introduced legislation to solve the debt crisis without raising the debt ceiling.  His solution was to cancel the $1.6 trillion debt that the Federal Government owes to the Federal Reserve.  There is no need for the taxpayer’s to pay this money back since the Federal Reserve simply printed the money out of thin air anyway. [5] He has introduced legislation to repeal legal tender laws. [6]

National Sovereignty

Ron Paul is the sponsor of a bill which would get the U.S. out of the U.N. [1] He opposes the North American Free Trade Agreement and the World Trade Organization.  [2, 3]  He voted against the Peru Free Trade Agreement. [4, 5]

Religious Freedom and Freedom of Speech

In addition to the “We the People Act”, Ron Paul also voted for the Public Expression of Religion Act of 2005, which would have prevented the ACLU and other similar groups from receiving lawyer’s fees from the taxpayers when they win cases having to do with supposed violations of the “Separation of Church and State”. [1] He is a cosponsor of a bill to preserve freedom of speech on the internet. [2] In the 105th Congress (1998), he cosponsored a resolution to make an amendment to the Constitution of the United States clarifying the meaning of religious freedom, but then voted against it. [3, 4]

Social Security

Ron Paul supports legislation to prevent illegal aliens from receiving Social Security benefits. [1,2]  He supports legislation to stop taxing Social Security benefits. [3] He is in favor of repealing a law which says that senior citizens are ineligible to receive Social Security benefits if they decide not to participate in Medicare. [4] He supports legislation to make it illegal for the government to spend FICA taxes for anything but Social Security benefits.  [5]

Taxes, Spending, and Budget Issues

Ron Paul voted “no” on Obama’s economic stimulus bills. [1, 2]  He voted for the Bush tax cuts [3, 4] and the 2010 extension [5-7] of them. [3] He has cosponsored legislation to end federal inheritance taxes. [8-9] He has cosponsored a bill to end the Alternative Minimum Tax on individuals. [10] Ron Paul has sponsored a bill to eliminate taxes on tips. [11] He has cosponsored the Telephone Excise Tax Repeal Act of 2011. [12] He voted for the Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011. This repealed the law which would have required you to file a 1099 every time you buy something for $600 or more from a small business.  [13-15]

He always votes “no” on raising the debt ceiling. [16-18]

He has cosponsored a bill to cut congressional pay by 5%. [19] He cosponsored a bill that would require that unused portions of each congressman’s budget be used for federal deficit or debt reduction. [20] He voted to end taxpayer funding of Presidential campaigns. [21] He supports legislation (the End the Stimulus Advertisement Act) to ban the use of taxes for highway signs that indicate that a project is funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Obama’s Economic Stimulus Bill). [22]

[5] I know that Ron Paul voted for the tax cut extension from word of mouth.  The vote for this particular bill was done by voice vote and was not recorded in the archives of the Library of Congress because Congress passed a measure to suspend the rules regarding voting procedure for this bill.  Below are a link to the text of the legislation and an alternative link which has the unofficial vote tally.

Veterans

Ron Paul supports the Retired Pay Restoration Act [1] and the Disabled Veterans Tax Termination Act [2, 3] which would allow veterans to receive both disability and retirement pay and would provide tax relief from them.

War on Terrorism

Ron Paul voted for the Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF) in Afghanistan immediately following the September 11th attacks. [1] A month later, he introduced a bill to issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal against Al Qaeda. [2] He voted against the AUMF in Iraq in 2002 [3] and has been an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq and the handling of the war in Afghanistan.  He has voted to withdraw troops from Iraq as early as 2007 [4] and now supports an immediate withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan. [5-7] He voted in favor of legislation requiring a withdrawal of troops from Pakistan in July of 2010 [8, 9] and also has recently voted against funding the wars several times. [10] He supports legislation to order Barack Obama to immediately withdrawal troops from Libya. [11, 12] He is one of ten congressmen who are actually suing Barack Obama for unconstitutionally invading Libya without congressional approval. [13]

He is generally against sanctions.  He is not a cosponsor of the bill to continue sanctions against Iran until they give up their nuclear program. [14]

Ron Paul voted against the both the Patriot Act and the Protect America Act. [15-17] He opposes the use of government mandated body scanners and pat downs at airports.  He has sponsored the American Traveler Dignity Act which would have made it illegal for TSA agents to do anything to anybody which would be illegal if anybody else did it (i.e. groping people, etc.). [18] Ron Paul voted to allow prisoners at Guantanamo Bay to be tried in U.S. courts. [19, 20]

Paul’s (Worst) Endorsements

Ron Paul endorsed San Francisco Republican and gay-marriage supporter John Dennis in the 2010 election for Congress. [1, 2]

Ron Paul sent out emails in support of Congressman Lamar Smith despite the fact that Smith voted for the war in Iraq and the bailouts.  Smith was running against an opponent whose positions were perfectly aligned with Paul’s. [3] When confronted about this, he said, “I made an agreement with the Republican Party to support the [Texas] incumbents.” [4]

But the two example cited above are not typical.  In 2008, Ron Paul endorsed about 30 candidates for Congress.  Michele Bachmann was one of these candidates and was typical of the others on list. [5]

[5] I can’t find this list on the internet, but it did appear on the website of one of Ron Paul’s Political Action Committees (the Liberty PAC) during the 2008 election.
