Articles of Freedom, part 17

This is a series of posts concerning the works of the 2009 Continental Congress. Two week ago, I wrote about Article 15 of the Articles of Freedom, which was about the illegal immigration problem. I will continue with “Divine Providence”, the text of which follows my comments.

Of course, this all makes common sense and it’s good that they have acknowledged God and asked for his assistance in these matters of great importance. But note the ambiguity about the true identity of this God. Jesus Christ is not mentioned. If you watched the deliberations, you know that this was because they didn’t want to lose supporters. Elisheva Levin, a Jewish delegate from New Mexico, almost didn’t sign the document even as it is because of this section and she and many others complained that it would exclude atheists. How ridiculous. Notice that they say “In Respect to our Founding Fathers” as if they doing it solely out reverence for them and it’s not really about God. The mixing of non-Christians and Christians to accomplish a goal just doesn’t work very well. As the Psalmist put it:

1Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Psalms 127 (KJV)

Also, a motion to add an amendment to one of the articles by two of the Kentucky delegates concerning the protection of the unborn was tabled by a 27-12 vote in the delegation. They only got the last vague statement in this section as a consolation:

“Our Founding Fathers recorded in the founding documents the God-given Rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness to every citizen. Without Life, there is no Liberty or Pursuit of Happiness.”

I don’t believe that God is going bless this effort since the abortion issue was ignored in favor of inclusiveness. Uuuuh, that John Bush really annoyed me. I knew that things would not go well even from the beginning since they chose Michael Badnarik, a pro-choice libertarian over vocally pro-life Florida delegate and Constitution Party member Dan Gonzales. What good is it to achieve these goals, if hundreds of thousands of innocent unborn babies are murdered every year and their killers are allowed to go free? What if we all lived in Nazi Germany and discussed how we were going to stop them from imposing gun control laws and unreasonable searches and seizures, but mentioned nothing about the Holocaust for fear of alienating racist Germans? You might as well forget it. There were many little things in this document that I disagreed with, but the reason why I have decided not to sign it is because of what isn’t in it. If you would like to hear delegate Richard Treitz’s abortion amendment and deliberations concerning it, click here and then click on 11/18/2009, part 3.

Next week I’ll wrap up this series.

THE ASSISTANCE AND PROTECTION

OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE

WHEREAS, America’s Declaration of Independence contains essential principles underlying the greatest governing documents ever given to mankind, and

WHEREAS, among our essential principles is the belief that we are endowed by our CREATOR and NATURE’S GOD with certain unalienable Rights and that Governments are instituted among men to secure these Rights, no more, no less, and

WHEREAS, the maintenance of these principles depends upon, “a firm Reliance on the Protection of DIVINE PROVIDENCE.”

THEREFORE, We, the Delegates of Continental Congress 2009, recommend the following actions to be taken by the People:

1. Each of us, beginning with ourselves and our family, set apart a day of fasting, weekly, monthly or whenever, to appeal to and to meditate and pray for the blessing of Divine Providence, in guiding our steps and assisting us in our struggle against the enemies of liberty, in reclaiming our freedom, and to encourage our friends and neighbors to do the same;

2. Encourage your minister, priest, rabbi, or other religious or spiritual leader to lead their congregation in a monthly day of fasting, meditation and prayer, for the blessing of Divine Providence to guide the success of our efforts;

In Respect to our Founding Fathers

Our Founding Fathers recorded in the founding documents the God-given Rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness to every citizen. Without Life, there is no Liberty or Pursuit of Happiness.

Matisyahu Sings for Peace

Sometimes I lay under the moon
And I thank God I'm breathing
Then I pray don't take me soon
Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waiting for
I been prayin for
For the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play

One day

It's not about win or lose cause we all lose when they feed on the souls of the innocent blood drenched pavement keep on moving though the waters stay raging and in this life you may lose your way, it might drive you crazy but don't let it phase you no way

Pre-chorus
Chorus

One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence down with the hate one day we'll all be free and proud to be under the same sun singing songs of freedom like...

The song that the little girl is sings in the above video is called "One Day" and was written by Matthew Paul Miller (no, this is not me). Matthew calls himself by his Hebrew name Matisyahu because he is a Jew. The point of this post is that you don't have to be anti-semitic or anti-American in order to be against the wars. Matisyahu has been, over the years, exploring different sects of Judaism. He appears to be open minded and searching for truth. I am praying for his conversion to Christianity and that God will use him bring others to Christ and peace in the Middle East.

Another War Looming?

From the Daily Paul...(take with a grain of salt)

Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times can reveal.

In the week that the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defence sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran.

To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defence systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defences will return to full alert.

Russia Reverses on S-300 Missile Sale to Iran

Less than 24 hours after the Russian Foreign Ministry insisted that the long-delayed sale of the S-300 missile defense system to Iran was still on track and that the UN Security council sanctions did not apply to the defensive missiles.

Today, Russia has reversed that position entirely, and the Kremlin says that the sanctions actually do forbid the sale. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin insists that the sale has been frozen.

The rap on healthcare ‘reform’

I was reminded today of a rap duo from Dartmouth called the Young Cons. Here is one of their rap videos made earlier in the year during the heat of the healthcare ‘reform’ debate. The subject is still a hot one. It’s one of many issues to remember as we vote in November.

I like the lyrics of the Young Cons' “Health Care Nightmare” especially, “You want to tell a private guy what he can buy? (To Congress:) I’m gonna tell you in November I’m going to wrap you up a brand new goodbye!”

Blame Bush for Soetoro/Obama!

Big hat tip goes to TheLookingSpoon for reposting the ultimate reason to blame G. W. Bush:
. .
There is some real truth to blaming Bush for the Soetoro/Obama regime. Had Bush stuck to conservative principles, and not abandoned them, especially in terms of holding spending, the economy may not have tanked to the degree it did and their would not have been the need for the "hope" and "change" promised by the inexperienced socialist "savior" and usurper.

Palin, Paul, and Paul on Freedom Watch

If you listen closely, you can hear Sarah say "lame stream media". This is really weird hearing them talk about unity among libertarians and conservatives. Its like as if the wars are something that we can just agree to disagree on. But interesting that Dana Rohrbacher says that most Republican congressmen believe that the war in Iraq was a mistake, but yet they aren't doing anything to bring the troops home. Still trying to "save face", I guess. And they didn't say anything about Ron's recent vote to repeal don't ask, don't tell. If they asked Rand that question, he would probably say, "Well, that's an issue that I disagree with my dad...", but what does he really believe? How will he vote if it comes up? And they didn't say anything about gambling, prostitution, porn, or needle exchange programs either. Bet Rand would really squirm on those things, but if he was smart he would just say that these things should be left up to the states.

Reverend Mahoney Being Arrested for Praying on a Public Sidewalk

My County Central Committee Experience

I was recently elected to the Central Committee of my county's Republican Party for the first time. And I just attended my first county committee meeting two nights ago.

The meeting was held in the “Hall of Mirrors”, a large room in a fancy downtown hotel. Everyone except the Tea Party types was dressed up in their suits and ties. Every GOP precinct committeeman in the county was invited and a lot of big wig politicians also attended. There are about 800 precincts in my county, most of which were filled this year, and it seemed like most of those elected attended the meeting, a big crowd.

I brought petitions for the Healthcare Freedom Amendment, the Estate Tax Repeal, and the Ohio Sovereignty Amendment, but did not make much of an effort to get any signatures, since a lot of other people were already doing it. I sat with four other members of our neighborhood 912 group.

When the meeting started, they hurriedly read through the necessary legal jargon to make it official. Then they elected the officers. It was all choreographed. The chairman would recognize someone to make a motion and then they moved to nominate the candidate. “If there is no discussion”, he said, “We’ll now vote on [so and so]”. No one raised any objections or nominated anyone else. A couple of times they made motions to nominate a whole slew of candidates to certain special positions. Each time, about ¾ of the people stood up (voting yes) and no one that I could see voted no. I didn’t even know most of the people they listed off. Why did they all just rubberstamp these guys?

Then they started patting themselves on the back. They threw in some words of apology for their recent shenanigans and pleaded with us to support their corrupt candidates because of the impending census redistricting. (The auditor, secretary of state, and the Governor make up three of the five members of the apportionment Board in Ohio.) Enough to make you sick!

Afterwards, they served brie and fancy roasted vegetable slices and lots of alcoholic drinks. Some of the big wig politicians were drinking like a fish!

Next time, we need to come up with a plan to organize an opposing slate of officers. But have to know what were doing, convince the liberty groups and social conservatives that these guys don’t really stand for what we believe in, and we have to overcome the intimidation factor.

Mini Super Tuesday 6/8/10

Like the previous mini Super Tuesday election held on 5/18/10, tonight’s primary election is an important barometer for what is to come in November. Will incumbent Senator Blanche Lincoln (AR), like entrenched 'moderates' Arlen Specter and Bob Bennett, be defeated? Will strong conservatives emerge as GOP candidates to battle the Democrats this fall? Will the Tea Party Movement momentum continue with victories by DeVore and/or Angle?

If all four of my picks win tonight, then I would say that there is a definite trend to fire congress and to elect a much more conservative element. Things would then seem to bode well for conservative candidates this fall. It is not an R and D thing, it is a conservative thing.

Al Gore: Broken Theory, Broken Marriage

It is my opinion that Mr. Gore is a serial liar. He did not invent the Internet. The Love Story book was not the story of Tipper and Al. He is one of the primary perpetrators of the so-called Global Warming hoax (give back the Prize, Al).
.
That fact and his love affair with himself and worship of the goddess Gaia all had a part in the eventual breakup of his marriage. It was not the hanging chad and George W. Bush!

God is Masculine

Last week I wrote a blog article, “What Gender is God?” Fellow A Good Choice …. blogger Matt made the following comments about that article. Following his comment is my response.

“I agree that God is masculine, but saying that he has testicles is a little weird. Yes, man is made in the image of God, but I don’t really think that God even wants us to ponder about that part of his anatomy. Some things may be better left unsaid (just a suggestion).

“Also you said, “God sired a son.” Do you believe that God had sex with Mary like the Mormons??? If not, please explain so that the readers of this blog don’t misunderstand you!”
.
It is good that you believe that God is masculine. Unfortunately, there are others who don’t know or don’t teach that God is masculine. Some people teach that God is feminine. Some teach God is both feminine and masculine while others teach God is neither or neuter. To counter this bad set of thinking strong specific language is needed. Testicles are needed for masculinity since they produce the masculine hormones. These hormones are what make for masculine behavior. Men that are lacking in intestinal fortitude are said to be without a pair of balls. A man with a physical defect could not serve as a priest before God. One such physical defect was if his stones were damaged (Lev. 21:20). I had never thought of such things until a pastor told me, “Scholars don’t know if God is masculine because they don’t know if He has testicles or not.” So now, I want everyone to know God has testicles.

Don’t you believe God begat a Son? Remember John 3:16 … He gave His only begotten Son … That’s what sire means: Father and to beget.

I do not know what the Mormons teach about God and Marry. I do know what the Holy Bible teaches. A virgin shall conceive (Isa. 7:14), and The Holy Ghost shall come upon Mary and the power of the Highest shall over shadow her … (Luke 1:35). A physical baby boy was to be born who would be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35). I know what conception is. It is the union of sperm and egg. Putting this together we see that God, while maintaining Mary’s virginity, placed a physical sperm in her womb which united with Mary’s egg and she conceived and gave birth nine months later to a man child.

In Psalm 2:7 God declares, “You are my Son this day I have begotten you.” That day was in eternity which means that Jesus has always existed as the Son of God even before conception. The second person of the trinity is divine and one substance with the Father.

Flotilla Choir: Yes We Con!

Hat tip goes to CarrollStandard who tweeted a link to the article and video that has been reposted below. What a shame anyone believes that orchestrated lie. What a sham that “humanitarian activist” manned flotilla filled of supposed aid” is, it is actually a PR stunt to trick the world. Even our Dear Leader Soetoro/Obama had his leftist cronies have fallen for the fabrication!

"This Latma produced video is a down right funny parody inspired by Israel's blockade and ultimate raid on a so-called aid ship that tried to run a blockade heading into Gaza.

"The 'activists' were armed with assorted weapons waiting to inflict as much damage on Israeli soldiers and in turn play the victim with cover by an anti-Semitic media. The aggressive moves by Hamas terrorist sympathizers are increasing, emboldened by a U.S. president that has shown open disdain for the Jewish people and has no compunction in throwing the entire state of Israel under the proverbial bus. Obama has made it clear he will not condemn the actions of these rouge 'aid groups' that have only one goal, to assist Hamas, Iran and others to eliminate the Jewish State.

“Anyway, enjoy the video.” The lyrics to this awesome parody follows the video.

There comes a time
When we need to make a show
For the world, the Web and CNN

There's no people dying,
so the best that we can do
Is create the greatest bluff of all

We must go on pretending day by day

That in Gaza, there's crisis, hunger and plague
Coz the billion bucks in aid won't buy their basic needs
Like some cheese and missiles for the kids

We'll make the world

Abandon reason
We'll make them all believe that the Hamas
Is Momma Theresa
We are peaceful travelers

With guns and our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

Ooooh, we'll stab them at heart
They are soldiers, no one cares
We are small, and we took some pictures with doves
As Allah showed us, for facts there's no demand
So we will always gain the upper hand

We'll make the world
Abandon reason
We'll make them all believe that the Hamas
Is Momma Theresa
We are peaceful travelers
we're waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

If Islam and terror brighten up your mood
But you worry that it may not look so good
Well well well well don't you realize
You just gotta call yourself
An activist for peace and human aid
We'll make the world

Abandon reason
We'll make them all believe that the Hamas
Is Momma Theresa
We are peaceful travelers
We're waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

We con the world

We con the people
We'll make them all believe the IDF is Jack the Ripper
We are peaceful travelers
We're waving our own knives
The truth will never find its way to your TV

We con the world (Bruce: we con the world...)
We con the people (Bruce: we con the people...)

Where's the Budget?

I received an email from U.S. House of Representatives member Scott Garrett (5th – NJ). He sent a YouTube video link (embedded below) in which he asks a $1.64 Trillion question, “Where’s the federal budget?” That question is more than relevant in an environment where the Democrat controlled Congress is in the throes of a voracious, an unaffordable, and an unsustainable spending binge.

In his video Representative Garrett quotes Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) the Democratic Chairman of the Budget Committee as having said in 2006 that a Congress that cannot pass the budget is a Congress that cannot govern. Amen.

Apparently, that matter of business can wait until after the November elections. If the guileful one, Nancy Pelosi, would dare reveal what her spending actually looks like practically, then more Americans would be even angrier …

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: Shame on Ron Paul

Before the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Vote...

After the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Vote

While I don’t have to agree with everything a politician says or agree with every vote he casts in order to be a supporter, I’ve finally reached the breaking point with Ron Paul. I was already disgusted with him for cosponsoring a bill which would repeal the ban on using federal funds for needle exchange programs. He stopped always voting “no” on Department of Health and Human Services appropriations bills and has instead abstained from voting on these bills through which Planned Parenthood gets most of its federal funding. Then he endorsed pro-war, big spending, bailout-voting incumbent Republicans (e.g. Lamar Smith) running against their pro-liberty, non-interventionalist challengers (e.g. Stephen Schoppe). This is out of step even with the secular portion of the Tea Party movement and its anti-incumbency sentiments. All the attention that he has been getting since he ran for President is going to his head.

There was a time when Republicans were in favor of repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT), but this meant repealing it in favor of actually asking the question and denying those who answered in the affirmative that they were homosexuals from participating in the military. After having made statements that he was in favor of keeping gays out of the military in his ’08 presidential campaign, he has digressed into absolute antinomianism and voted for repeal of the DADT policy. That was the last straw for me.

The Founding Fathers recognized that God is the Supreme Authority, and that the Bible is His book[1]. They also recognized the God gives everyone a conscience so that they are without excuse[2]. This is what they mean by “the Laws of Nature”[3,4] and the “self-evident” truths[4]. It isn’t, therefore, even necessary to know the Bible in order to know that homosexuality is unnatural and sinful[5]. And it isn’t just a bad habit like smoking or drinking alcohol excessively. Even Benjamin Franklin recognized “that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it”[6]. The Bible story of Achan, illustrates the principle that God can withdraw his hand of protection from an army at war even because of one of its members’ sin[7].

I will still go to Ron Paul meetups (they are not really about Ron Paul, but mostly about his economic and small government agenda), read the Daily Paul and Campaign for Liberty websites. I still agree with 97% of what he says. Repealing DADT doesn’t violate the Constitution. He is still the most constitutionalist of all the congressmen. But the Constitution isn’t everything. (And even on the Constitution, he sold us out with his endorsements of unfit candidates.) Most of the time libertarian principles agree with the Bible, (he even is still more socially conservative than most Republicans), but Ron Paul has forgotten that it is God who has made our nation great, not some abstract philosophical principle which could be lived out by ungodly men. I might even still vote for him in 2012 if he runs for president, but I will not donate any money or time to his campaign. I have removed the Ron Paul bumper sticker from my car.

Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.”

Articles of Freedom, part 16

This is a series of posts concerning the works of the 2009 Continental Congress. Last week, I wrote about Article 14 of the Articles of Freedom, which was about the illegal immigration problem. I will continue with Article 15, the text of which follows my comments.

I agree with everything in this article, but I am afraid that even if every congressman and the President agreed to make this their goal, it would be a challenge to accomplish it. I am thinking particularly about paying everyone back for all the entitlement program payments that they were forced to make. What about all the people who have died? When a thief doesn’t have the funds to pay back what he stole, it’s difficult to figure out what to do, especially when the thief is a faceless government bureaucracy. There’s no point in stealing from other taxpayers to pay for what they stole!

ARTICLE 15.

GENERAL WELFARE COMMITTEE REGARDING THE WELFARE STATE

WHEREAS, the mention of “General Welfare” in the Preamble to the Constitution for the United States as a principal goal of the Constitution, conveys no specific powers to government, and the General Welfare Clause of Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution for the United States is only intended to be restricted to the enumerated powers which follow it; and

WHEREAS, James Madison states in Federalist 41 that “Nothing is more natural or common, than to use a general phrase, and then to explain or qualify it by a recital of particulars,” and that it would be an “absurdity” if the list of particulars was interpreted as anything but restrictive on the general statement; and,

WHEREAS, the early nineteenth century serves as an example of rapid economic growth despite very limited government investment in the “general welfare”, and during that period the institution of the family provided adequately for most Americans without any federal welfare, and voluntary religious and charitable associations flourished without government involvement; and,

WHEREAS, the family and the State are competing forms of government, with the result that when one is strengthened the other is weakened, and the family is the most effective provider of social services, so that the “general welfare” is best served by strengthening families than by strengthening government; and,

WHEREAS, the responsibility of government is to secure to its citizens the fruit of their labor, which is their property, and the opportunity to utilize that property as capital to create wealth;

THEREFORE, the Delegates of the several States in Continental Congress assembled:

1. Protest the misinterpretation of the General Welfare Clause by Congress that results in the tyranny of unjust taxes upon the People;

2. Find the “general welfare” is neither “promoted” nor “provided for” when Congress exceeds the enumerated powers of the Constitution, and that the General Welfare Clause does not provide constitutional justification for:

· Mandated or government run health insurance, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or any form of welfare payments to individuals; but those who were forced to contribute into any of these programs shall be reimbursed less any payments from those programs they may have received, and inflation to be accounted for in the calculations of amounts due;

· Mandatory vaccinations, mental health screenings, or collection of medical data of individuals;

· The violation of the right of individuals to decide which foods, substances, or medications they put into their bodies;

· Bailouts, grants, loans, investments or any other form of corporate welfare;

· The disguised regulation of private activity through subsidies;

· Grants to churches or other religious or charitable organizations for any purpose;

· Federal funding of education at any level;

· The coercion of States and municipalities to adopt national standards by threatening to withhold funds;

· The building of infrastructure, except as enumerated in the Constitution;

· Economic stimulus grants, loans or any other appropriations for State and local governments, except as enumerated in the Constitution;

· Any other federal law, statute or regulation that is not specifically enumerated in the Constitution.

Extraordinary Measures (2010)

Harrison Ford stars as an eccentric scientist studying enzymes with the intent to help understand and treat a rare childhood disease, Pompe. The story revolves around a young couple with three children, two of which have been struck with an insidious debilitating disease, which is incurable. Extraordinary Measures is the account of a father’s intense unselfish love for his children.

Ford’s character and the young father meet as the result of the father’s self-directed research into everything he could find out about his children’s disease. That search led him to Nebraska and the cookie research scientist. They strike up a relationship, which is up and down, rocky and smooth. The acting of the middle daughter is touching. She refuses to give in to her disability. She has an intense passion to live. He is courageous, determined and seems to live as normal a life as she can despite her condition. Her father both admires and empathizes her fight for life.

The movie reminds me of the intense love that God the Father has for human beings. He is the patient and persistent, loving hound of heaven, pursuing His creatures. The little girl is the person who cannot overcome their lot in life and at the mercy of an advocate. We are like that little girl, we need to keep fighting for life while submitting to the will of God, who is seeking and wants only the best for us.

Although the movie is not openly Christian it has a strong godly, biblical message. First, love is a value, an attitude, a virtue and a behavior that bodes well for any father or leader. Being a father or a mother is an unselfish deal. Second, it is illustrative of the only sound and biblical marriage relationship. As a couple is united and dedicated to doing the very best for their children they too grow individually and collectively. The movie is a wonderful demonstration of the committed marriage relationship in spite of great obstacles and difficulty. Third, never give up. Fight the battle, fight what what is right. Be courageous in the face of fear. Fourth, it shows the power of the coalition. The extraordinary parent teamed up with an extraordinary scientist and you will have to watch the movie to find out what happens!

RATING

I had wanted to see this movie for some time, but I think it had a somewhat limited engagement in the theaters. Why? It must have been too meaningful, too moral, too enlightening for the Hollywood induced numbness that permeates today’s typical movie fare. This is an excellent movie. I purchased it by faith and was rewarded. If you can’t afford it, rent it or check it out at your local library. It is well worth it. I would rate the flick **** ½ out of *****.

“The President said his daughter, Malia, asked him if he plugged the hole yet.

“But he wasn’t sure if she was talking about

· the oil spill,
