This week I have been having an absolute fascinating “debate” with some Californians over the highly important ballot issue, Proposition 8, which is the marriage protection and preservation amendment that will appear on the California ballot in November. Its passage is vital for the future of the institution of marriage as we know it, and for the health and welfare of this society. The “debate” began when I responded to a letter someone wrote in opposition to Proposition 8.
In responding to my assertion that perhaps one or two of Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration and Constitution were Deists.- My friend responded and suggested, “Try the majority [of Founding signers were Deists]... And while you're at it, take some American History at the college level.”
The majority of Founders were Christ-followers. In fact, a great many of were themselves SEMINARY grads! This was a time when a seminary grad was exposed to, taught and learned the truths of the Bible. It would be a waste of time today going to almost any secular university to learn American History, because the history taught there is revised, sanitized and purged of most references to God, Christ and Christianity. I would prefer to go back and study the original documents and try to listen to the original intent of the Founders not some radical leftist professor or author’s select false description and account of history.
My fellow commenter asked, “So are you saying that you would advocate the dismantling and overthrow of the system of government of the United States of America? What you infer is tantamount to treasonous insurrection...”
What makes you think I am advocating a new revolution? Come to think of it, that may not be a bad idea. If it is revolutionary to return to the original intent of the Founders to insist that our courts become interpreters and not makers of law, than yes, I am for a total shake up of our government. Right now the courts are becoming as tyrannical and loathsome as was King George’s decrees and rules over the colonies. The Kelo decision along with Roe v. Wade and Lawrence v. Texas are great violations of the constitution. Everyone is entitled to life (Roe v. Wade is in opposition to that – just ask the 45-50+ million babies killed since 1973 or ask many of their mothers whose lives have been ruined by those abortions); everyone is entitle to liberty (Lawrence v. Texas ruled that sodomy was okay, when for thousands of years it was considered abhorrent behavior and when accepted was the ruination of many a great nations). The ultimate result of institutionalizing the immoral same-sex “marriage” relationship is loss of religious liberty on the part of anyone who does not recognize that unnatural, abnormal, unhealthy, immoral and unbiblical relationship and dares to say or act upon that belief. Everyone is also entitled to private property (the Kelo decision took private property of one private citizen and redistributed it to another private citizen for the “benefit” of government or society as a whole) Again the US Supreme Court overstepped its bounds.
Finally, adversary surmised that supporting or voting YES on Proposition 8 makes me a hateful bigot. Well, if standing for the truth and absolute morality and not compromising Biblical truth or commonsense reason makes me a “hateful bigot”. I will gladly were that moniker.
What we have in Proposition 8 is a clash of worldviews. On the one hand we have the secular-humanist worldview where there is no absolute good or evil man is the ultimate authority and determinate of what is good and evil. On the other hand we have the Judeo-Christian worldview. That view was predominant in this nation for over 200 years. It acknowledges that there is an ultimate authority greater than flawed, depraved, inferior and sinful man. It seeks to preserve and honor what He (God) holds sacred. One-man, one-woman marital relationship is one of the foundational pillars of a civilized society. In contrast secular-humanism, a deadly religion, holds that there is no absolute morality. All morality is relative. There is no God, but man. Therefore man can do anything that seems good and right in his own eyes. That is why such an abhorrent idea as same-sex “marriage” can be accepted,promoted and justified.
