Is it Government's duty to take care of the poor?

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with comments. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to yesterday’s topic.

.

The Hot Issue:

Does the United States have an obligation to help the poor in other countries?

____ Yes
_ X _ No

My Response:

The following is an expanded version of my response to the question above.

No. Meeting the needs of the impoverished here and abroad is not one of the primary responsibilities, duties, or obligations of the government. That is not to say we as individuals are not responsible. We are. As Christians in a Christian nation we are to help those in need, domestically and internationally. Individuals, churches, and non-governmental organizations bear the brunt of this responsibility. We are to give freely and without coercion. The main responsibility of the government is to protect its citizens.

The current administration in Washington wants to cut back on national security and defense and does virtually nothing to secure our borders. Instead it meddles in areas it doesn’t belong: education, healthcare, welfare, etc.

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with comments. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to yesterday’s topic.

The Hot Issue:

Should more safeguards be placed on adoptions from foreign countries?

_X_ Yes
___ No

My Response:

The following is an unabridged version of my response to the question above.

Yes. But a real source of babies that is untapped is all of the babies being exterminated right now by abortionists throughout this land. On one hand there are people desperate to kill their babies, while on the other equally desperate people wanting to adopt. Stop abortions. Start adoptions domestic and foreign!

A Raquiem for the Stimulus Bill

I came across an interesting Twitter retweet which included a reference to this article, “Happy Anniversary, Stimulus Package! Boondoggle: Great NRSC Ad” and the embedded video below.

The
Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with any comments they may have. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did in regard to today's (Wednesday's) topic.

The Hot Issue, Wednesday, February 17, 2010:

Do you think the stimulus package has helped Ohio?

My Response:

No, in the long run Ohio is not helped by the pork-laden stimulus bill. We should not be singing its praises. We should be crying a dirge!

Actually, the stimulus package was one big slush fund used by the Democratic controlled Congress and President. It has only helped states like Ohio in propping up their budgets especially in retaining union members such teachers, police, fire, city workers etc In other words, those voters to whom the Democratic Party is beholden and dependent on as a base.

All Ohio or any state has done is buying a little time, avoiding the inevitable day of reckoning. Layoffs and other belt tightening must be done. Wasteful and excessive spending must stop!

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, 6 years is enough!

Three Liberal Peas in a Pod
(Sen. Sherrod Brown, Pres. Soetoro/Obama & Gov. Strickland)

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with any comments they may have. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did in regard to today's (Tuesday's) topic. The Governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland, a staunch Soetoro/Obama supporter and an extreme leftist himself, gave his state of the state address today.

The Hot Issue, Tuesday, January 26, 2010:

What should be the governor's highest priority in 2010?

My Response:

Finding a new job for HIMSELF! Because in November there will be a great repudiation of his failed liberal policies. He was one of the prominent supporters of our current president and you can see what he has not done for this state or for this nation.

Did President merit Nobel Peace Prize?

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with any comments they may have. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to last Friday’s topic.

The Hot Issue, Friday, December 11, 2009:

Should President (Barry Soetoro a/k/a) Barack Obama have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?

____ Yes
__X _ No

My Response:

The President is as deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize as is the discredited Al Gore is for his Nobel and Oscar awards . . .

Honoring these two highly undeserving ‘winners,’ it makes a mockery of the awards.

Furthermore, to date the President has done nothing to merit recognition. His only accomplishment is becoming President. As for Mr. Gore, his “Inappropriate Lies” movie was ridden with falsehoods and misinformation. They should both return their awards.

Islam is a Threat, Why Deny It?

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with any comments they may have. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to last Friday’s topic.

The Hot Issue, Friday, November 13, 2009:

Do you think government officials should have seen warning signs that the Fort Hood shooting suspect was a danger to others?

_X_ Yes

___ No

My Response:

Absolutely, they should have.

Political correctness has lassoed, stymied and hogtied our government agencies into not being able to act and respond promptly, wisely and effectively to the growing threat of Islamic terrorism. Unfortunately, the government won’t even call a spade and spade anymore . . .

Cash from Clunkers

Cartoon by Henry Payne as found on Townhall.com on 8/21/09

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. Here is their question of the day for this past Monday along with my answer.

The Hot Issue:

___ Yes

_X_ No

My Response:

The "Cash for Clunkers" Program and the whole stimulus bill are bad ideas. Increasing debt and the deficit merely for a short-term quick fix or to gain political points or approval ratings, does little or nothing to improve the long-term health of the overall economy. It is the wrong approach.

I think the whole concept of removing older cars to reduce carbon emission is based on a false premise that America unilaterally can and needs to do something to stem the tide of man-made global warming. This is an unwarranted assault on American business and the American people. It puts us at a competitive disadvantage for one thing. For another thing, removing cars that could otherwise be donated to charity and provided to low income or needy people and ruining their engines, making them unusable is wasteful and foolish. Not to mention the fact that man-made global warming is a complete hoax.

The real clunkers that should be removed reside in the U.S. Congress and the White House. 2010 and 2012 can't come soon enough!

An Answer to failing public schools

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. Here is their question of the day for this past Monday along with my answer.

The Hot Issue:

Do you think charter schools have helped or hurt the public school system?

__X_Helped
____Hurt

My Response:

In one sense, ideally charter schools and other private schools help the public schools by creating a more competitive environment, in which the public schools would strive to improve. Without competition the schools have no reason to improve. In other words, the public schools get entrenched in the status quo and mediocrity.

A better, more pertinent question, however, would be, “Do you thing charter schools have helped or hurt students and their learning?” But, that does not seems to be the concern of politicians, educational bureaucrats. or the teachers unions. Our public schools, based on the money per child “invested” in education, is an abject failure. This is especially true when you compare US student achievement with other industrialized nations. We rank near the bottom of the list. Why? It is the failed curriculum and the overarching godless, secular humanist philosophy, deliberate dumbing-down of America’s children that is the root cause of its failure. Furthermore, we are turning out amoral and immoral students.

Charter schools and especially private schools seem to have more of a mandate to teach than do the prison-like institutions or indoctrination centers, the government-run schools. Looking at how well government has done in education should be instructive as to why government should not be involved in ripping apart and redoing our healthcare system.

"Tell Me It Ain't So" Sotomayor

Hot Topics - A very so so Sotomayor

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. Here is their question of the day for this past Friday (yesterday) along with my answer.

Hot Issue:

Do you think Sonia Sotomayor will make a good Supreme Court justice?

___ Yes

_X_ No

My Response:

She is a Judicial Activist, who will ignore the original intent of the Constitution and the law and treat it as a ‘living document.’ She will look at international law and not at the Constitution solely. She appears to be a racist, having been affiliated with various racist organizations and her decisions seem to be prejudicial. She will limit first amendment rights of individuals. She opposes an individual’s right to own guns. She will support the expansion of both abortion ‘rights’ and the homosexual agenda. Other than this, she is a perfect candidate!

Seriously, her appointment and confirmation proves one thing, that elections have serious consequences. We elected a radical President, we get radical results.

Would you oppose President Barack Obama's health-care plan if it allowed for Medicaid-funded abortions?

_X_ Yes
___ No

My Response:

With or without government mandated or funded abortions, I oppose ObamaCare. I oppose ObamaCare on principle. It is unnecessary, wasteful, free-enterprise killing, socialistic, inefficient and ineffective. It is socialized medicine.

One needs only look to see what Congress and the past Presidents have done to Social Security and to Medicare to see failure by big government to steward such a massive program. It would be beyond foolish to trust the government to fix health care.

Health care does need reform, but it does not need the proposed detonation of the present system, replacing it with something far worse. By mandating abortion funding and end of life rationing it makes ObamaCare even morally reprehensible in addition to the fact that it would be a financial fiasco.

Is USA being Left-turned?

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in its newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with comments. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to yesterday’s topic.

The Hot Issue:

Do you think the country is headed in the wrong direction?

_
X_ Yes

___ No

My Response:

Yes, indeed, the last six months this nation has raced towards its DESTRUCTION. We are on a spending spree, with the apparent goal of bankrupting this nation. Instead of fixing our economic problems, Congress and the President have chosen a course that exacerbates the problems. Also, what they are doing (Stimulus, Bailouts, nationalization of industry, etc.) would turn this nation from a constitutional republic with limited government, capitalism, and free enterprise as the chief drivers of the economy, into a socialist state modeled after the Soviet Union with big government bureaucracy and collectivism as the main drivers of the economy.

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. Here is their question of the day for last Wednesday and my answer.

Hot Issue:

Do you approve of the way President Barack Obama is handling the economy?

___ Yes
_X_ No

My Response:

The alleged President, Barry Soetoro a/k/a Barack Obama, has turned a recession into a potential depression. He is ruining the economy seemingly more day by day. He has a very naive understanding of economics or maybe he wants to deliberately tank the economy, one or the other.

If he were receiving a performance appraisal in the business world he would be joining the unemployed 10%. I give him a "not meeting standards" overall evaluation.

His stimulus or porkulus bill is a dismal failure, as it relates to what its hyped intent. He promised unemployment would not rise upon 8% in the stimulus was passed. It will exceed 10% before the end of summer. Where are all those shovel ready projects?

He has interfered in the automobile industry and has wasted money achieving the same ends as if the companies were allowed to file bankruptcy themselves.

He has not only continued the failed Bush administration economic policies of Bush's
last year or two, he has accelerated those failed policies and dreamt up and implemented some new, even worse ones.
.
Here is how I evaluated Soetoro alias Obama after he was in office for 3 months.

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. Here is the question of the day and my answer.

Hot Issue:

Do you approve of the way President Barack Obama is handling the economy?

___ Yes
_X_ No

My Response:

No, No, 5 trillion times No! The man is on a spending binge spending money which he does not have on things we do not need. He is a great teleprompter reader and an even better spender of other people’s money – even of our children’s children money! He is absolutely ruining, not restoring our economy.

Estimates, if you include the bloated budget he is promoting, are somewhere around $5 trillion, with a “T.” That is destructive, as much as it is obscene.

TAKE ACTION

Please join the Columbus T.E.A. (TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY) Party Protest on Wednesday, April 15, 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm at the Ohio Statehouse, Corner of Broad St. & High St. to protest how this president and this congress is wrecking the economy.

Check out the following websites with information on how to participate in one of the Tea Party Protest Rallies taking place in a couple of weeks that are in your local community:

COMMENTS

There were over 200 responses to this poll. 60% disapproved of the way the alleged President Barry Soetoro (a/k/a Barack Obama) was handling the economy. Truth be told, a better way to phrase this question would be, “Do you approve of the way the the president is mishandling the economy!”

One response that caught my eye was, “No, This guy (Soetoro a/k/a Obama) is Jimmy Carter on steroids.” That is absolutely right.

Separating God from the State

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. The following question was asked yesterday (Thursday.)

The Hot Issue:

Do you think Nativity scenes should be allowed on government property?

My Response:

Absolutely! Why not? The concept of “Separation of Church and State” is unconstitutional and was contrived. That concept is just like the heinious Roe v. Wade ruling, which mistakenly created a “right” for a woman to kill her baby.

This nation was created as a Christian nation on Judeo-Christian principles and those principles are interwoven into the fabric of our government and its founding documents. To deny this fact is to agree with American historical revisionists.

The Engineered Energy Crisis

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in their newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community and asking the vote of the readers on that issue along with comments. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to yesterday’s topic.

The Hot Issue: Do you think oil companies are to blame for the high price of gasoline?

My Response: No. Deserving most of the blame is the Congress. Primarily it is the Democrats in Congress who have foolishly caved to their radical environmentalist backers, to whom they seem greatly indebted.

The Democrats have blocked oil drilling, nuclear energy development, building new refineries, on every front they have constructed impossible barriers to all domestic energy development. It almost seems like they are working against America. They act as domestic terrorists.

Permit Off Shore Oil Drilling Now

Extreme Environmentalism

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch runs a regular feature in their newspaper identifying an important issue to the local community. Occasionally I will respond and comment on the issue raised, as I did to yesterday’s topic.

The Hot Issue: Do you think Congress should change the law and permit off-shore oil drilling?

My Reply: Yes, absolutely.

The people of America have been bamboozled and hogtied by the extreme environmental activists and the politicians over whom they hold sway. Some in the movement may be well intentioned, but they have been deceived by the leaders of the movement. Extreme or radical environmentalists worship the created nature instead of the Creator. The earth is their god. They have worried more and valued more plants and animals over people.

Extreme environmental activism is the root of excessive damage to New Orleans as a result of Katrina, the cause of excessive forest fires in California, and now lack of development of our energy resources.

New Orleans was one victim of environmentalism foolishness when they would not allow the levies to be reinforced to protect some endangered species. Californians lost homes because forests were not allowed to be cleared of underbrush. Oil prices have ratcheted upwards because extreme environmentalists and their political pawns block every attempt to drill for oil, build refineries, or build nuclear reactors.
