I taped the Sunday GOP debate and watched it when I got home from church.

Brownback was questioned about an anti-Romney ad which accused him of signing a bill into law which increased taxpayer-funding of abortion and other accusations. Brownback said this ad was true, but Romney denied the accusations. The fact that Romney and McCain believe that abortion should legal in cases of rape and incest was not brought out in this debate. Giuliani maintained his pro-abortion position.

Tom Tancredo and Mike Huckabee spoke in favor of the Fair Tax plan. Brownback said he favored the Flat Tax plan.

Ron Paul was the only one who spoke out against the war in Iraq. Mitt Romney responded to this by saying, “He’s forgetting about 911.” But Paul had already said that Iraq had nothing to do with the September 11th attacks. None of the other candidates denied this statement, nor did they give any real justification for the war. Paul also said that the war was unconstitutional and illegal (because the U.S. never officially declared war on Iraq). None of the other candidates could make any argument against this statement either. Paul said that he supported the war in Afghanistan, but was against nation-building it.

The candidates were asked about what they thought about Barak “Oh, bomb ‘er” Obama’s plan to attack Pakistan if they do not take on the terrorists along the Afghanistan border. Duncan Hunter argued that the Pakistanis have started to make progress, but it is difficult because of the terrain. Mitt Romney responded by criticizing Osama (err… Obama), saying that he was willing to sit down and talk with our enemies, but yet would bomb our “ally”. I actually agree with Obama’s recent statements, but I don’t know if he is serious or just saying it to get votes. I would never endorse him because there is little or nothing else (besides Iraq) that I agree with him about.

The candidates were questioned about when it is too soon to start having elections when the U.S. is nation-building a democracy. Some of their answers were so foolish. They think they should wait until the populace will vote the way “we” would have them vote. I wrote an article recently which exposed the U.S. funding of terrorism and the hypocrisy of nation-building. (I failed to mention in that post that the U.S. is giving billions of dollars in weapons to the nation in which the Wahabbi (Osama Bin Laden’s) sect was founded—Saudi Arabia.)

Brownback said he supported a “three-state” solution in Iraq. This means he favors that the U.S. should try to divide Iraq into Kurdistan, a Sunni state, and a Shiite state. I believe that the Kurds are descendents of the Assyrians, and the Bible says that the nation of Assyria will be reestablished. There will be a highway from Assyria to Egypt (Isaiah 11:16) and the Egyptians will serve the Assyrians (Isaiah 19:23). In the day that the great trumpet will sound, those who are perishing in Assyria and Egypt will come and worship the Lord in Jerusalem (Isaiah 27:13). I don’t think, however, that the U.S. should try to fulfill this prophecy. God can bring it to pass without our help. (As Christians we should try to help fulfill the last part of the prophecy by evangelizing the Assyrians and Egyptians as well as all ethinic groups.)

Tommy Thompson snubbed Brownback’s remark by saying that we have already divided Iraq into 18 states and we can’t even get Iraqi leaders to agree on little things much less how to divide up oil reserves, etc.

The most poignant moment of the debate for me was when the candidates were asked what their greatest mistake was. I was moved by Tom Tancredo’s answer. “I have no doubt… It took me thirty years before I realized that Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Savior,” he said.

Moving Toward Amnesty Armageddon

Voting for cloture and thus, resurrecting a once apparently dead bill, and thus advancing the possibility of passage of the fiscally irresponsible and senseless Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill S. 1639.were my two Senators and two key GOP Senate leaders.

Voting YEA to revive this wretched bill, which reporter Julie Hirschfeld Davis of AP wrote was meant “to scale procedural hurdles and return to the bill” to the Senate floor for possible passage were the following Senators:

· George Voinovich,( R-OH)
· Sherrod Brown, (D-OH)
· Mitch McConnell, (R-KY)
· Trent Lott, (R-MS)
· John McCain, (R-AZ)
· Sam Brownback (R-KS)

Two of the Senators were my state Senators and the other two individuals are the so-called leaders of the GOP minority in the Senate. Two of the Senators aspire to the Presidency. It is troubling to me that Senator Brownback appears to be pro-amnesty. It also is troubling to me that apparently President Bush has persuaded several key Republicans to change their positions. They will live to regret it if they continue to support this very deleterious bill.

What somewhat surprised me were the number of Democrats who voted against cloture.

· Landrieu (D-LA)
· Stabenow (D-MI)
· Baucus (D-MT)
· Tester (D-MT)
· Dorgan (D-ND)
· Rockefeller (D-WV)
· Byrd (D-WV)

I really don’t know these people voted against it because only one was a border state.

Furthermore, I am fearful that Senator Voinovich will be retiring if he continues on this avenue of supporting this budget-economy-Medicare-Medicaid-busting bill. I for one will not vote for him in the primaries if he continues to support this bill. He just might be planning to retire after this term. If not we will put him out to pasture at the ballot box in May ’08. I will vote and work for his opponent in the 2010 primary. In fact, every last Senator who sticks with this bill to the end must be targeted for forced retirement that includes Republicans as well as Democrats.

This is a very frustrating situation because these Senators who voted for cloture are going against the direct will of the people. The lame duck President for apparently personal gain is personally vested in the passage of this insane legislation. The GOP Senators apparently did not learn the lesson from the ’06 elections, which were more of a rejection of the GOP than any infatuation with the Democrats despite what Representative Pelosi or Senator Reid would claim.

This bill is futile, unnecessary and even hurtful to the long-term interests of America. It must be defeated. I sent a personal email to Senators Brown, Brownback. McConnell and Voinovich. I sent faxes to Voinovich and Brown. I called Senator Voinovich's office but could not get through. He either took the phone off the hook or there were other people talking to him most likely trying to persuade him to vote against the amnesty bill. I am disappointed in the number of votes to stop cloture. I am hopeful, however that the outcry of the people will be louder than the shrieks of President Bush to the fence sitting Senators. What fence is that? It surely is not the fence on our borders now is it?

Presidential Candidates for ’08, Part 2

Yesterday we identified all the less-than-stellar candidates in both main political parties that are currently running for President. I just came across a few more names on NewsMax.com such as VP Al Gore, who is an even worse a candidate than those currently running. Billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg may also run as an Independent candidate and his vast wealth makes him an instant viable candidate. Because he is a New Yorker, that in itself may be enough to disqualify him in my book. I love NY, not. On the GOP side Newt Gingrich is toying with the idea of running for the highest office as well. I like many of his brilliant ideas, but there are a few other candidates in the GOP who outshine him in character. He might make a good VP or cabinet member though.

THE FEW WORTHY OF THE HIGHEST OFFICE

Amazingly, some 17 months before next year’s national elections here I already offer my choices of qualified candidates deserving of serious consideration for nomination of President of the United States in 2008. Some of these candidate face great obstacles including some or all of the following: (1) lack of financial support, (2) extreme media-bias toward any true conservative whose positions are absolutely antithetical to those of the radical left, and (3) apathy on the part of values voters who have been very disappointed by those whom they elected including President George W. Bush. The following at this point are the best of the current crop of candidates.

#2 Choice is:
Senator Sam Brownback

#3 Choice is:
Governor Mike Huckabee

#4 Choice is:
Representative Tom Tancredo

#5 Choice is:
Senator Fred Thompson

The order of these choices will possibly change during the next year and a half. There are a lot of debates, primaries and maybe even a disaster or two to endure. But one of the five candidates must emerge as the GOP or as a independent candidate to give America any hope for rising from her current malaise and funk. This malady did not develop overnight, but by an incessant move culturally and politically toward socialism and by a double crossing so-called compassionate-conservative President, who it turns out for the most part is neither. Sadly, President Bush has proved to be just another greedy, self-centered McCain-like moderate politician.

We need a leader who will be a true statesman, one who will lead us again with genuine optimism, courage and one who will govern by the same conservative principles that gets him elected. This is in lieu of using conservative principles to get elected and then abandoning them when he no longer feels that he needs to pretend that he believes them. A lot can happen between now and November of 2008. However, let us do all we can to insure that at least one of the choices for president will be a man of character, of faith and of firm conservative principles.

Dann the Profane

Who's behavior or position is more profane, Dann or Obama?

The following article shows us the decline in decorum, just plain respectful manners, among our highest elected officials. This is very poor example and model for our children and our citizens - seeing our leaders behaving badly, like you might expect to see at a wrestling Smack Down event.

DANN'S PROFANITY

Less than six months in office and we get a possible glimpse of the heart and mind of Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann. Apparently a nosey newspaper reporter got this public official’s dannder up. An editorial in the Mansfield (Ohio) News Journal today commented, “Dann was caught on tape by a Youngstown (Ohio) television station outside a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack (Hussein) Obama, cursing the writer because of an article about a woman Dann raised as his daughter landing a state job.”

The editorial goes on to say that Dann shouted “Hey Steve (Oravecz, he reporter) go (*/!$%#/) yourself,” TV station WYTV caught Dann’s profanity on tape and aired it on the Internet for all of Ohio and America to see the inappropriate and immature behavior of a top Ohio leader embarrassing Ohio.

The editorial concludes urging the not so danndy Marc to apologize to the reporter and to Ohio residents. Uncontrolled anger on the part of the state’s chief law enforcement could be said to be danngerous, indeed.

THE REAL OBAMINATION

Dann's words and attitude toward those daring to speak or expose the truth may be profane, however, much worse is the grossly profane platform and positions espoused by presidential candidate, Senator Obama, at who's fundraising event Dann's unseemly outburst occurred.

Senator Obama favors pro-death issues such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research, he supports and advocates for homosexual and other perversions expansion of their special protection, treatment and "rights", he favors limiting parental choice in educational alternatives - fore example Senator Obama's desire is to enhance and expand the absolute control of government schools to program and indoctrinate America's children in the ways of Secular Humanism and in Socialism and in all liberal causes. So, I ask who is really more profane?

Actually all of the seven announced Democrat candidates and I would include the top tier GOP candidates all profess to some degree various degrees of support for many profane issues. Only when you get to the real conservatives like Representatives Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo, Governor Huckabee and Senator Brownback do you begin see a rise in elevation above the political swamp slime as far as frim stands on the important social and poltical issues facing America.

Statesman, Politician or Polutician? Part 1

Where are Statesmen like William Wilberforce?

Is every Politician an unprincipled liar? Unfortunately, the common perception of most people, I think, is that most lawyers, Politicians and car salesmen are corrupt. Doesn’t just come with the territory? This caused me to ask myself a couple of question. “Are there any true Statesmen on the political scene today in America?” “What is the difference between a true Statesman and a Politician, if any? In this brief series of articles, we will explore the three categories into which our elective officials fall. Today we will talk about Statesmen.

THE STATESMAN

The dictionary defines a Statesman as one who is wise and experienced in the business of government. I think that a Statesman is also a respected leader in government and in the political arena; he or she is respected by those likeminded as well as those many in the ranks of the opposition. William Wilberforce pictured above was an outstanding Statesman in England. See the article, which I wrote about him earlier this year.

These men and women, I am afraid, are very rare breed, indeed. They are greatly needed, but hardly ever appreciated. They consistently put principles above convenience or political expediency or political correctness. These people honor truth. These people believe in moral absolutes. These people are visionaries. These people understand America’s republican democratic roots, its principles and its values. A Statesman wants to build up and upon and not to destroy the foundation.

Whereas Politicians and Poluticians (I will define this term in a subsequent article in this series. Here is a clue, “PU”. ) pimp patriotism merely to win points and to win votes. Conversely, Statesmen are the true patriots and their lives, positions, policies and their votes reflect consistently despite the obstacles. They persevere despite the opposition, despite the barriers, despite the odds.

Anymore, America seems not to want Statesmen, people who will honestly tell America or lead her in the ways of traditional, God-honoring values and truth. Statesman may lack the Hollywood-looks and charisma of the Politicians or Poluticians but they have the real character qualities such as honesty, courage and force of will to stand for principles, for what is good, for what is right.

Examples of statesmen today are really hard to come, but here are a few:

· Representative Duncan Hunter, R-CA
· Representative Tom Tancredo, R-CO

These two men, from all I know about them so far, whether they are serving while their party is in the majority or while their party is in the minority in Congress, have stuck to their guns and beliefs and have not wavered. They are not swayed and driven by polls, politics but by core principles. These men have persistently supported and lead on the most important issues of our time: pro-life, preservation of traditional marriage, and opposition to law-breaking illegal aliens and law-breaking greedy businesses.

Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) may also be included in this category, even though I do not agree with him on the issue of war on terrorism in Iraq and some of his other libertarian views. Furthermore, Governor Mike Huckabee and Senator Sam Brownback, (R-KS) both of whom are running for President may be close to being Statesmen. I am still researching and learning about these two men.

I pray that one of the four persons mentioned above, Hunter, Tancredo, Brownback or Huckabee, or maybe even someone like Senator Fred Thompson would be that true conservative of character and principle, who would emerge out of the GOP primaries and challenge what will be a sure radical leftist Democrat candidate. None of the current crop of 7 Democrats and the so-called top three tier GOP candidates have the potential to be true Statesmen. They are Politicians or political hacks at best.
