The Stoning of Soraya M. (2009)

It took two weeks for ‘The Stoning of Soraya M.' to make its way into a movie theater in Ohio. See my previous posting regarding this movie. Actually, I happened to be in Cleveland yesterday and took in an afternoon showing. The Cedar-Lee Theater in Cleveland is the only theater in the state of Ohio that is showing this intense and important movie.

The inhuman act of stoning, like slavery, goes in many Islamic nations at the present time. In Islam the woman is a second class citizen with little or no rights. (Where is the outrage, N.O.W.’s radical feminists?)

This movie tells the story of one woman’s plight, and the courage of another woman to get that story out to the world. It gives a great insight into the cruelty and hate-based religious-political-military system that is Islam. Its adherents desire to portray Islam as the religion of ‘peace’. However, it is more like the religion of piece, meaning body parts. This is in reference to limbs amputated as punishment for simple crimes of theft. That nicety was not on display in this movie, but a torturous stoning scene was.

Soraya’s wicked, evil, even demonic husband falls in love with a 14 year-old girl and seeks to get out of his current marriage. Soraya is a good, honorable wife, who is victimized by this monster. The monster is her husband and the system gone wrong.

One interesting dynamic to watch throughout the movie is the interaction between the children (two boys and two girls) of Soraya and her corrupt husband. You will see the love of Soraya and the self-centeredness of the husband. What is particularly tragic is how the two older children, the boys, turn on their mother and even take up stones to throw against her.

Jim Caviezel plays a French journalist, Freidoune Sahebjam, who is made aware of the atrocity that occurred to Soraya. He is shown at the beginning and at the end of the movie. Caviezel is the actor who portrayed Jesus Christ in the Passion of the Christ. That movie, too, showed the brutal and inhuman tortuous treatment of a person. The difference being that Jesus was God-man dying so that men might be reconciled to God. The story of Soraya’s death helps to inform the world the true nature of Islam and its god.

This movie is a telling tragedy of the shenanigans that too often go on in the Muslim world. If nothing more, this movie presents a glimpse of what goes on behind the Islamic curtain.

I rate this movie ****1/2 stars out of *****. It is violent, and is correctly rated R because of it. Young children should not be permitted to see the movie.

I think that this movie should be shown to every high school and college aged student in America to present a balance to the indoctrination being feed to students in the pretext of cultural diversity about Islam. Even our past President had a false notion that Islam was a religion of peace. However, 9/11, this movie, and the on going persecution of Christians and anyone else who does not submit to Islam in those countries where Shariah Law predominates shows the true face of Islam.

Obama Ridicules the Holy Bible

To summarize the video, Oh!Bomb’er says that if we are going to use the Bible in public policy, should we use Leviticus where it says that slavery is OK…should we use Deuteronomy where it says you should stone your child if he strays from the faith? Then he said that the Defense Department does not live up to the principles of the Sermon on the Mount.

First of all the concept of slavery was different in the southern states of America in the 1800s than it was during under the Law of Moses. People were not enslaved just because of their race. Permanent slavery was a means of punishment for crimes (usually war crimes) and temporary slavery was used as means of payment of debt. Masters were not allowed to mistreat their slaves as they were in America. Obama is using the word “slavery” deceitfully to bash the Bible. The comment about stoning a child to death for “straying from the faith” may be based on Deuteronomy 17:2-7. Summarizing this passage, it says, “If there be found any among you… [that] hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them…and [thou] shalt stone them with stones, till they die.”

This is a difficult passage, but without going into to too much depth here is brief explanation. The nation of Israel was set apart by God to be Holy. Therefore, wickedness had to be treated with severity. The principle is this—the more you know about God and the more you have seen His power, the more responsible you are for following God’s commandments. The nation of Israel was, in some sense, closer to God than any in history. They passed through the Red Sea on dry land. They saw Moses face when he came down from the holy mountain. This lead to the necessity of more severe punishments for those who witnessed all this and still worshipped other gods. This principle is contained in passages like Luke 12:47-48. Another principle is that when someone is given a righteous punishment it is hypocritical if the one doing the punishing has committed worse sins than one being punished. This principle is contained passages like John 8:1-11 and Matthew 18:21-35.

As for the comment about the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), I agree with Obama, but not for the reasons he does and he is like the pot calling the kettle black. If you are in favor of allowing fully born babies to left to die without punishing the killers, you cannot take a word of what Christ says seriously. The remark about the Defense Department probably particularly refers to Matthew 5:38-42. I expose this false interpretation here and here. Ironically, the following is part of the very Sermon on the Mount which Obama speaks so highly of:

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:17-19)

But Obama makes it sound like the law (which includes Leviticus and Exodus) is totally unreasonable. But God really is strict in punishment. He is holy. Have you ever been angry with someone without cause (Matthew 5:21-22) or looked at someone with lust (see Matthew 5:27-28)? If you do have to face a God who is totally just and has never sinned, would he say that you are innocent or would he say that you are guilty? Do you know what God did (if not see I John 2:2) so that you would not have to go to hell (see Matthew 5:29-30) for what you have done? What do you have to do then to be saved? If you don’t know see John 3:16, Romans 10:9, Acts 2:38.
