The Arizona Shooting: What Can We Learn?

Not long ago a shooting took place in Tucson, Arizona. Twenty people were shot of which six were killed and fourteen wounded. There are those who are blaming Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Mark Levin, and the Tea Party participants along with dissenters of how government is running, for the actions of the shooter. It appears that there is the desire to shape public opinion against conservatives and to restrict or even outlaw their speech and thought.

This has already been done, to some extent, with Christianity.

Congress passed a law (IRS Regulations) outlawing pastors from speaking out on political issues and on candidates or the church would lose its tax exempt status. Atheists have gotten prayer taken out of school through court action. The Ten Commandments have been expelled from school and court rooms by the federal courts. They claim it would be improper for someone to actually obey the Ten Commandments. Christian symbols on government land have been removed. In Colorado Springs, Colorado there were three crosses in the Garden of the Gods.

They have been sawed off level with the top of the rock on which they stood.

The Lord Jesus Christ is not honored in school, government, industry, and in many other places. I was threatened by the principal to be kicked out of school for speaking to the other children about Jesus and the word of God and this happened in the 1950s!. If you talk about Jesus and the word of God at work one is told to stop. If a person does not stop then they are fired. Chaplains in the military have been told not to pray in the name of Jesus. Bibles sent to Afghanistan for the people of Afghanistan were burnt by the United States Army. The United States of America has made itself the enemy of God. Before he would speak President Obama had the statue of Jesus covered for his speech at Notre Dame.

Among the population of America there is little knowledge of the word of God and no fear of God. People are, as a result, not inclined to live lives honoring to God as time goes on. In Scripture we find these truths:

1. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God (Psalm 9:17).
2. By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil (Proverbs 16:6b).
3. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).
4. It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness. (Proverbs 16:12).

The problems experienced in America today are the result of America and Americans turning from Jesus Christ.

You can help the nation by repenting of the evil in your life. You can confess to God that you are a sinner and invite Jesus into your heart. A sample prayer is, “Lord Jesus Christ forgive me of my evil, my sins, and come into my heart and life. Amen.” Now then, I urge you to begin to read, to study, to apply, to obey God’s word, the Bible.
