The Killing Fields in America, Part 7: What Am I Doing Today in the Battle?

This is the final article in this seven-part series on abortion. Yesterday we outlined three steps in preparing for the battle. Prayer and trust in God for His guidance and joining Him where He is already working. We identified our enemies and our allies. We said we must educate ourselves on this issue. Here is another site with information about abortion. We suggested joining , participating and/or contributing to one or more Pro-Life organizations mentioned yesterday or today. Today we want to look at a few more possible steps.

Step Four: Becoming Involved Politically

It is time for those of us who hold a Pro-life view, to take political action. Identify whether your current representatives are pro-life or pro-death. Find out, via their websites and internet searches, where they stand on abortion as well as other pro-life issues. Find out what bills are facing congress and write letters, make phone calls, send faxes and/or emails letting your Representative and Senator know where you stand. Follow the legislation in your state and in the U.S. Congress. Below are some of the key Pro-Life related bills.

. . . SUPPORT PRO-LIFE LEGISLATION:

· Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act (House of Representatives (H.R. 356/Senate S.51) – This law seeks to require abortionists to notify the “mother” of the child-to-be-aborted that child will suffer pain as a result of the abortion.

· Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (H.R. 748/S.403/S.8/S.396) – This bill would prevent the transportation of minors in circumvention of certain laws relating to abortion.
· Human Cloning Prohibition Act (HR 1357/S.658) – This law would prohibit cloning.

· RU-486 Suspension and Review Act of 2003 (H.R. 3453) - This bill calls for the revoking of the Food and Drug Administration's approval of RU-486.

· The Public Expression of Religion Act (U.S. House of Representatives HR 2679) – “To amend the Revised Statutes of the United States to eliminate the chilling effect on the constitutionally protected expression of religion by State and local officials that results from the threat that potential litigants may seek damages and attorney's fees. This is legislation that would stop organizations like the ACLU from being awarded monetary awards from any governmental entity. This is critical to stop the flow of cash from we the taxpayer to the Pro-death ACLU.

· Right to Life Act (H.R. 552) – This law would implement equal protection under the 14th amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.

Follow these bills by learning more about them and staying abreast of how they are proceeding through the House and Senate. Ask your Representative and Senator to co-sponsor these bills if they are not already sponsors. The National Pro-Life Coalition, which we discuss below, has a good section on its website that also outlines current legislation.

. . . ELECT PRO-LIFE CANDIDATES

Support candidates who are pro-life such as U.S. Senator (Ohio) Mike DeWine, who is running as an incumbent, and try to persuade those who hold office who are pro-death to change their minds. Do not vote for any pro-death candidate, such as Congressman Sherrod Brown, who is running for U.S. Senate (Ohio). If you are able volunteer to help reelect or elect pro-life candidates. Consider contributing to pro-life candidates, as well as to pro-life organizations as mentioned in these articles.

. . . SUPPORT PRO-LIFE ORGANIZATIONS

In addition to the organizations mentioned yesterday, we want to identify two more: Care Net, which operates Crisis Pregnancy Centers throughout the United States. The National Pro-Life Alliance is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of more than 600,000 pro-life Americans united by a single mission: ending the horror of abortion-on-demand. Both of these organizations are deserve your support and involvement. Another good source for information is www.ProLifeBlogs.com, which is an internet site that provides information from various blogs which deal with Pro-Life isues.

. . . SIGN PETITIONS ADVOCATING LIFE

Also sign online and other petitions, such as the one requesting that the Planned Parenthood Federation of America be de-funded by American taxpayers.
