This will be part of an on-going series, which will identify key races where we either need to retain a strong conservatives or to elect a values-oriented principled conservative. My personal feeling with being faced with two inferior candidates for President offered by our major political parties, we must turn our attention to insuring that more conservative American-values oriented persons are elected to the U.S. Congress.

THE RACE

The congressional race that we will highlight today is Ohio District 4. I suggest that all conservatives in Ohio U.S. District 4, in Ohio and elsewhere to get strongly support is Representative Jim Jordan, Republican incumbent from Ohio (Northcentral Ohio.) Jordan is completing a successful first term in Congress. Please read the articles I have previously written about Rep. Jordan.

He is a strong pro-life and pro-family leader. I have heard him speak in person on several occasions and in various settings. Once outdoors on the public square in the middle of winter in Mansfield, Ohio at a pro-life rally, once indoors in a church for another pro-life event, once in September at a large political action oriented event. I have heard him on the radio giving interviews. He is convincingly conservative on the issues with which I am most concerned

My Congressman Has It Right

I feel very blessed to be represented by this principled rookie U.S. Congressman Jim Jordan. Congress is now in recess and our Congressman are in their districts this week. I heard him speak tonight in the Mansfield, Ohio area. He is a strong pro-family, pro-life, pro-control illegal immigration representative.

In terms of the abortion, he pointed out the great media bias against pro-life. He cited the major pro-life rally in Washington, D.C., which was virtually ignored by the media, despite the fact that 500,000 people protested on the mall. He talked about the fact that Embryonic Stem Cell Research (ESCR) has yielded no good outcomes, unlike using adult stem cell or umbilical cord blood cells, which have.

He outlined what he saw were the three major challenges facing America today:

(1) Terrorism – he likened it to what America and the world faced in the 1930s – Nazism.

(2) Competition – America must compete harder today than ever before. After World War II America could do nothing wrong. We had no competition. Today we face the manufacturing and economic challenge from China and India. Congress cannot afford to make mistakes as they have in the past and it didn’t cost us. Now we must regain our competitiveness.

(3) Restoration of American values such as sanctity of life, protection of the traditional family and marriage.

Although this event was billed as a pro-life update, Representative Jordan fielded questions about taxes, healthcare, the North American Union. In regard to the issue of life, however, he reiterated several times the theme that one thing that the pro-life side has in our favor is the TRUTH. With truth on our side he feels that we shall eventually overcome. Elections, he said is the basic way we can change our present situation. We must seek to elect those candidates most committed to the cause of life, family, etc. He challenged us to take the political process very seriously.

To the GOP: We don’t want more of the same (No MOTS)

House Leadership Appointments Good and Bad  

A week ago I wrote an article, "Two Key U.S. House Chairmanships in Play," about two key committee leadership positions which the GOP must fill. Well today those positions were filled.

THE GOOD

Congrats to Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), the newly elected Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman, who will lead the conservative caucus in the 112^th Congress.

I am happy for my Representative, Jim Jordan’s recent election as chairman of the conservative caucus for the new Congress. This will be an important position because of the makeup of the conservative makeup of the 60+ new representatives elected on November 2, 2010. The RSC functions as the conscience of the conservative movement. Hopefully Rep. Jordan will wield a powerful influence for good on his fellow Republicans. That said, I would have preferred to see Louie Gohmert (R-TX) as chairman of this group. Only because he has more experience and boldness to stand up to the entrenched Country Club Republicans that his hold a lot of power.

THE BAD

I don’t especially like the election of Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) as Chairman of the powerful House Energy & Commerce Committee. After all, he is the ‘brain’ behind the move to get rid of the incandescent light bulb in favor of the mercury-laden CFL bulbs. This may be a very unwise move on the part of the Republicans. It seems to me to be a business-as-usual move not in keeping with the change demanded by the November 2^nd election. I am very disappointed. I would have preferred to have Cliff Stearns (R-FL) elected as chairman of that committee. I think he would have provided stronger principled conservative leadership.

Upton: A Bad Idea

The GOP also selected another entrenched good old boy, Hal Rogers, to lead the very powerful House Appropriations Committee. I join the Club for Growth who were disappointed that Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) was not selected. Kingston would have been a fresh face with good ideas to cut spending. The Democrats, commenting on the selection of Rogers in a Poltico.com story, called him a “King of Pork” claiming he brought in over 130 earmarks totaling ¼ billion dollars for his district. Not a good sign.

Hal to the King?

I imagine that both Upton and Rogers had the blessing of incoming Speaker John Boehner. These two selections are not boding well for the change that the American people voted for in November.


The GOP was given a second chance by the American people. Compromising with the President on the extension of the unemployment benefits for 13 months at a cost of $120 Billion, and the selection of men like Upton and Rogers are not in keeping with the expected change Americans are wanting. Let’s hope the GOP wakes up before the gavel opens the 112^th Congress …


If there is one message I would like to get through to John Boehner and the GOP leadership it is this. We don’t want more of the same: No MOTS! The GOP must appoint the brightest and most conservative of the new Congressmen and Congresswomen to the key committees to offset the appointment of the likes of Upton and Rogers. Otherwise 2012 will be a repeat of 2006 and 2008!

Cut, Cap, & BALANCE – Getting the Complete Picture

Hat tip goes to my Representative U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, (R-OH-4), and his conservative Republican Study Group (RSG) which produced the video embedded below. The video deals with how to handle the massive deficit, debt and Democrat desire to again raise an already dangerously high and going-through-the-roof debt ceiling.

As RSC Chairman Jim Jordan and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor wrote in their USA Today op-ed today:  

…Always a concern, the national debt has grown into a malignant cancer on our economy. Attacking this cancer at its root means cutting spending. If we do not, the U.S. will face a job-killing debt crisis within just a few years.

Promises, Promises - Near-term spending cuts are necessary to alter the course, but they will not be enough without long-term changes. Likewise, promises of cuts 10 years from now mean little without a way to enforce them. The only way to truly guarantee delivery from future politicians is if the Constitution demands it. That's why the House will vote next Wednesday on a balanced budget amendment that would require supermajorities in both chambers to run a deficit, raise the debt ceiling, raise taxes and spend more than 18% of GDP…

A Summer of Revolt

America needed the Congressional summer recess even more than did her representatives and senators. Many wish this Congress would take the rest of this year off. This government (the Soetoro/Obama administration and the corrupt 111th Congress) has quickly done decades worth of damage already this year! The havoc and the destruction this government has wrought is swiftly leading this nation to its premature fall.

A number of events have occurred recently, which are illustrative of just what is happening in this country. Ours is a nation literally under siege by Marxists and socialists, who captured power and the White House last November. They seek to topple completely the America of our Forefathers.

The TEA Parties and the subsequent invigorated Town Hall gatherings have given the fed-up-with-the-feds majority a voice, an outlet to express their deep concerns, outrage, frustrations and disappointments. We are gravely disturbed by the actions of our government since that bloodless coup that began earlier this year when the new president and the new Congress went to work.

ENOUGH, that is the word, the cry, which encapsulates the mood and mind of most Americans. The senseless spending of money, which we don’t have on things we don’t need, by the extremist elite, is flatly immoral, despotic even demonic.

We will look at three specific events that occurred during the month of August, which reveal the temperature of this nation. First is the TEA Party held in Akron, Ohio. Second are two contrasting Town Hall Meetings held in the states of Washington and Ohio.

TEA PARTY MOVEMENT GATHERS STEAM

Thousands (7,000+) of people attended the Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 first-ever Akron Area TEA Party held in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. This was one of the largest, if not the largest TEA Party to date in Ohio, rivaling the statewide Ohio TEA Party on Saturday, August 1, 2009. I was listening to a portion of the WHLO-AM radio broadcast of the event. Ohio State Route 8 was apparently backed up with cars in route to the patriotic gathering. The TEA Party movement along with the barrage of patriotic Americans attending their local Town Hall meetings is a very overdue and very healthy turnaround for this hitherto apathetic country. See details of the even here. One interesting item to note is that U.S. Congresswoman Betty Sutton (D-OH-13) refuses to meet with her constituents over the health care reform and other devious bills. She along with many other members of Congress are hiding this summer. The YouTube video is dedicated to Ms. Sutton.

LEFT AT THE TOWN HALL – REP. BRIAN BROWN

Hat tip to the BluegrassPundit where I first saw this powerful video posted. This veteran Marine let his congressman (Brian Baird) have both barrels as he figuratively shot him down at a Town Hall Meeting earlier this month. The Marine speaks for me and I think for the majority of Americans.

I, David William Hedrick, a member of the silent majority, decided that I was not going to be silent anymore. So, I let U.S. Congressman Brian Baird have it. I was one questioner out of 38, that was called at random from an audience that started at 3,000 earlier in the evening. Not expecting to be called on, I quickly scratched what I wanted to say on a borrowed piece of paper and with a pen that I borrowed from someone else in the audience minutes before I spoke. So much for the planned talking points of the right wing conspiracy.

Many liberal and wayward Congressional members are hearing from their disgusted constituents this summer. By contrast my Representative, Congressman Jim Jordan (D-OH-4) was the featured presenter at a very hot (weather-wise) Town Hall in Lucas, Ohio last Wednesday evening.

I did not find out until the last minute that the Town Hall was being held. With the help of Mapquest I made my way to the even. How refreshing ti see a true Conservative Congressman who consistently does the right thing. The crowd was very appreciative of Rep. Jordan and his stand and vote against the bailouts, the stimulus bill and his promise to vote against the so-called health care reform or ObamaCare and against Cap and Trade. He is one Congressman who does not need to fear the people because he listens to We the People. He took many questions, which were primarily about the proposed health care reform.

Jordan emphasized that of the three main issues facing Congress right now: Defeating ObamaCare, defeating Cap and Trade and Stopping Runaway Spending, the defeat of ObamaCare by far is the greatest priority. Government cannot run the Post Office, the Veterans Administration Health Care System, the Medicare and Medicaid Programs, how can it assume total control of the entire American Healthcare System? It will only ruin, not run, the best healthcare system in the world. For additional details of the event click here.

Should Planned Parenthood's abortion services be a key issue in the budget fight?

What About the Babies?

My answer is yes, Planned Parenthood's abortion services is a key issue in the budget fight. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), the biggest in the Big Abortion industry, is corrupt to its core as demonstrated by recent and in the past by LiveAction.org undercover video exposés. Covering up statutory rapists, giving advice to sex traffickers, playing fast & loose with the law are merely some of the deviant activities of this loathsome, liberal icon of an organization. The President and Democratic leadership in Congress is sold out to this vile, despicable child-killing machine.

If life is sacred, and it is indeed so, then preservation of life is our responsibility. Abortion may be considered “legal” by some, but it remains unethical and immoral.

Read the Associated Press (AP) article, “Planned Parenthood, abortion and the budget fight,” which I saw on twitter. It provides a good fair representation of each side, the liberal and the conservative, of the Planned Parenthood funding issue.

My U.S. Representative, Jim Jordan (R-OH) says it best in a quote from the above referenced article, “The country is broke and the vast majority of Americans don't want tax dollars to take the life of unborn children." He added that although Planned Parenthood supposedly does not use its 1/3 of a billion dollar government funding directly for performing its huge number of abortions, “Money is fungible. ... It's just common sense. We think that taxpayers understand this, particularly at a point in history when the country is broke."

So funding Planned Parenthood in anyway should be part of the budget issue. Although, I do not believe that the old line Republicans, Boehner and his buddies have the guts to stand firm on this key rider. Unfortunately, I expect that before the bewitching hour of midnight tonight they will end up throwing more babies under the bus …

(Columbus, Ohio AGC News) The first 'Ohio Tea Party' was held this mild pre-spring morning on the steps of the state capitol in Columbus, Ohio. A Tea Party was held in the city of Cleveland earlier this year. The Tea Party Movement was born out of the deep frustration expressed by one news reporter on CNBC, Rick Santelli. He suggested that Americans join him in Chicago in a new Tea Party, protesting the tyrannical spending and misappropriations of the Soetoro (a/k/a Obama) Administration. This was in reaction to the bank bailouts, government induced mortgage crisis, and so-called stimulus (spending) bill.

Well, it came to Columbus, Ohio. Approximately 200 souls showed up for this event. The event was coordinated by the Ohio chapter of the Americans for Prosperity (AFP). A myriad of sign were displayed by men, women, and children, typical Americans. What struck me was the fact that there were what appeared to me were five or six mounted riot police standing by to quell any violence. Gee, the only violence is being done inside the Ohio Capitol and the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Generational theft, fiscal child abuse and a wanton desire to inflict socialism on America is the real violence that the mounted police should be trying to thwart.

Above are some photos I took of this event, which promises to be part of a growing movement across America. Thank goodness we still have true patriotic congressmen like U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, who spoke at the event.

The next Ohio Tea Party will be held on Wednesday, April 15th, again on the steps of the Ohio State Capitol Building as well as in over 115 other cities across this nation. My hope is that ten times or more Americans will be there to protest the terrorist, traitorous tactics of the regime currently ruling in Wasting-a-ton, D.C.

Hopefully, Tonight Will Be President Obama’s Last SOTU Address!

I googled this question, “Is this President Obama’s Last State of the Union Address?” The first response that I received was an RT.com article, “Obama's last State of the Union?” In part the answer I received embedded in that article was, “

Pending the outcome of the presidential election in November, Tuesday night’s State of the Union address could very well be Barack Obama’s last.

Will President Obama bring up the federal budget tonight? This is really one of the key failure that the President shares with his fellow Democrats in the Senate. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), made the following key criticism in his op ed, “Obama needs fiscal 'courage'” in the 1/24/2012 edition of the U.S.A. Today.

The President ignores the scandal plaguing the Democrat Senate. His State of the Union actually marks a milestone:  1,000 days since we last saw a budget plan form the Senate’s Democrat majority.

My congressman, who is the Chairman of the RSC , Jim Jordan suggested that Americans will be looking for answers to three big questions when listening to President Obama's SOTU and revved up campaign stump speech tonight:

1.   Where are the jobs?

2.   Why aren’t we using all the energy resources we have available?

3.   How can we stop this crazy spending and borrowing?

I, along with Representative Jordan and many other Americans, especially conservatives, think that the President is more interested in campaigning against House Republicans than in any bipartisan problem-solving. Will we merely hear more campaign rhetoric and empty, flimsy promises? Will there be anything substantive in the President’s TelePrompTed words? Will Valarie Jarrett and his speech writer give us anything for the good of the nation as a whole, or continue to provide assurances to the Democrat Party’s and President’s radical base and to giving sole support for his re-election effort?

Will Boehner Fully Capitulate by 12/31/2012 to Obama?

Unfortunately, Speaker John Boehner is not now a leader of the Conservative Movement, if, in fact, he ever was.

He is a hopeless, hapless RINO. He is a shill for the East Coast country club Republican elites. Time after time, he and the GOP use Conservatives and Tea Party participants at election time to win elections under false premises.

In 2010 they used us to get to the majority in the House.

Once power was secured, Boehner abandoned principle for power and politics. Despite whatever glossy, patriotic, conservative terminology and rhetoric he may misuse in his bombastic speeches before Congress or the Media’s microphones. You can count on Boehner putting Boehner and his party first, America be damned.

Frustratingly, he seemingly acts like a virtual wimp in the presence of the President, yielding like a whipped pup to the President's every demand.

The bottom line is, if Boehner completely caves, as he is expected to do, he must be replaced by a real conservative and leader before it is everlastingly too late. Someone like former Presidential candidate and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann, who does have a backbone, would nicely and precisely fit the bill.

Or even my current representative in the House, Jim Jordan, who has impeccable Conservative credentials and record, would equally make an outstanding Speaker.

We need someone who will figuratively counteract the Nancy Pelosis, on both side of the aisle in Congress, punch for punch…

Neither of the above mentioned Speaker-replacements would so easily surrender to the ‘transformation-minded’ President and equally treasonous Democrats in Congress. They would deal with the real problem of America, turning off the spending spigot of the current regime in Washington!

Last Man Speaking, Mansfield, Ohio Town Hall Meeting 8/24/09

This past Monday night our local area was blessed with an atypical, and what I believe was model Town Hall meeting. The meeting was held at the local High School. It was the result of a spontaneous idea and action of a local TEA Party. Two hours were set aside in the evening at a time when those of us who work were able to attend. Proportionally little time was allocated for the presenters, the bulk of the time was given to hear from the people. The people did speak. The frustration of the people over the ever expanding big government and its even bigger spending practices were expressed. The two representatives aides seemed to hear. Not sure if the liberal Senator Sherrod Brown would ever depart from the Democratic Party line, however, at least he sent someone to hear, whether he will listen is a very different matter.

HERE COMES THE JUDGE

The sponsor of the Mansfield, Ohio Town Hall Meeting on Government Run Health Care and the Cap & Trade Legislation, the Mansfield North Central Ohio Tea Party Association, wisely chose a respected, no-nonsense local judge to moderate this Town Hall. After all those unruly (and many for good reasons) meetings, Judge James DeWeese would have none of it. He reprimanded and cautioned the crowd and one individual, in particular, when it or she got out of line. Out of the Town Hall Meetings I have viewed on the Internet, this Town Hall was a model.

From my vantage point on the front row looking back across the expansive auditorium I thought two-thirds of the 1200 seat Mansfield Senior High School Auditorium were filled. The cup of wrath and indignation was more than ½ full with citizens wanting to share with their representatives. Lame duck (emphasis on lame) Senator Voinovich’s office said that he has never did Town Hall Meetings and will not be starting now. He was invited, but declined. Senator Sherrod Brown sent a representative, the State Director of his office, John Ryan. I don’t think Sen. Brown is in the mood to endure the questions about his beloved health care reform monstrosity. Senator Brown has been and continues to be an extreme liberal on almost all of the current issues. On the other hand, Congressman Jordan is a very conservative member of Congress. Just a week earlier, Congressman Jim Jordan was present in Lucas, Ohio, a small town just east of Mansfield, speaking before 200 or so people. Ray Yonkura, Rep. Jordan's Chief Of Staff represented him at this Town Hall.

The program started at 7 and was to run until 9 PM. Judge DeWeese opened the Town Hall with a few remarks, he was followed by Mr. Ryan then by Mr. Yonkura. Mr. Yonkura was on the correct side of nearly all the issues and had the support of most of the people present. I would declare him the winner of the "debate." John Ryan did his best to disguise the very liberal positions of Sherrod Brown, the Mansfield native.

After the presentations, which lasted until around 7:30 PM, two lines formed, one on the right of the stage, and another on the left. The question and answer period lasted 90 minutes. On most question, both representatives had an opportunity to respond. When the time approached 9:00 PM Judge DeWeese wisely cut off the comments by the two representatives, but allowed everyone remaining in line to ask a question or make a statement. I am very glad he did this, otherwise we would not be able to here the wisdom of the last person in line.

THE LAST MAN STANDING & SPEAKING

At around 9:15 PM, or so, the last man standing was an elderly gentleman who slowly but deliberately made his way on his own volition and took the microphone. It turned out to be a marvelous and fitting conclusion to an evening when a lot of folks got a lot off of their collective chests.

This man was so symbolic of America, that I had to transcribe his entire remarks. His words follow the embedded video below. His comments were low key, yet he was every bit as passionate and profound as Michelle Malkin on the View TV Show. He's my new hero. He's a great American. His entire words of wisdom are captured in the embedded video below. Roy Wagner of KRose Video was on hand to record the entire Town Hall Meeting. I was particularly appreciative of his documentation of this important and historic event.

To me, this geriatric giant of a man in many ways represents the best of America past and present. His words encapsulate the sentiment of most Americans past and present. He spoke for the silent and moral majority. A well grounded, respectful, conservative voice that is seldom if ever heard as clearly in the censored media called TV News. A man with the mental agility that could outperform most Mansfield Senior High students right now. Inspirational!

Here to me was the highlight of the night. Here to me summarized the previous two hours. So simple, yet so wise. The words of a patriotic, average American, whom we should try with all of hearts and minds and spirit to emulate.

“Thank you for being here, Judge DeWeese. You conducted a very good thing - meeting. [applause] I admire you, greatly, Judge DeWeese, for putting morality into your office. [Sustained applause]

“I may be the oldest man in here (tonight), I don’t know. I’m 95 years old. [Applause] I was born in Richland County and I graduated from Madison High School in 1932. There are only 3 of us left . . .

“I love this country. [Applause] I had a son killed in Vietnam. I’ve have a young grandson in the Marines now. [Applause]

“I am a registered Democrat now, because I wanted to vote (in the primary election) for my grandson, who ran for mayor of Ontario (a suburb of Mansfield). And he made it. And he will be on the ballot this fall as a Democrat.

“But I am a Republican, and I voted Democrat because I wanted to see my grandson get elected. He’s a good man. Judge DeWeese is also a Democrat, and he is a good man. [Applause]

"Now, I want to recite a poem I learned many years ago and it never crossed my mind until the President started going across the world criticizing our country.

COMMENT

At 95, this man gave an amazingly powerful and inspirational closing challenge to all Americans. It capped an intense evening at this model Town Hall meeting. For those who left this ballgame early, they missed the game winning home run!

While the two representatives got peppered with questions and comments from those assembled, this elderly gentleman put it all into proper perspective. He saw his president "doing wrong" by defaming and insulting our nation abroad. The majority of those present (and I believe that they represent the majority of Americans) vehemently oppose what this president has already done on foreign soil as well as what he and his administration are doing and trying to do domestically. I absolutely concur with Congressman Jordan and his Chief of Staff, Ray Yonkura, that imposition of both Government-Run Healthcare and the new tax scheme called Cap and Trade must be defeated along with halting out-of-control and wasteful government growth and spending.

One closing note regarding this seasoned citizen, he is walking visualization or demonstration of why we don't need ObamaCare. This vital man is still contributing value to society, and I would say he will continue to do so until God takes him. Their is a real danger under ObamaCare or socialized medicine that this man would be "expendable" or not worth "investment" of health care because of his age . . . Now that would be a great shame, wouldn't it?

Ohio Town Hall Meetings/TEA Parties in August

Here is a list I have compiled of Ohio Town Hall Meetings and TEA Parties and related Meetings to be held during the Month of August. I will update this article as I receive information. I would encourage you to attend as many of these events as possible. Many Ohio members of Congress are in hiding this summer. The meeting will be open to your questions and concerns after his presentation. Senator George Voinovich's office was also invited but declined numerous requests to participate. Candidates in the Ohio 12th U.S. Congressional District will debate from 2 to 4 p.m. today in Newark, Ohio. The Newark (Ohio) Advocate newspaper is streaming the event live. You can view it here.

The debate will be shown live at The new district includes seven Central Ohio counties, including Licking, Morrow and parts of Muskingum, Richland and Marion.

With the redistricting I will no longer be represented by conservative champion, Rep. Jim Jordan. RINO and U.S. House Speaker John Boehner lackey Rep. Pat Tiberi now is running to become my representative. Tiberi is as conservative as Presidential candidate and faux conservative Willard Mitt Romney. These imitation or born-again 'conservatives' (are cons) at election time must be defeated. Six terms for this kowtower to the GOP establishment is more than enough.

Post Election Projections for Ohio - Pro-Life Gains Expected

The following press release is from Ohio ProLife Action. It outlines the possibility of real Pro-Life gains in the Ohio legislature in the near future. Wes Goodman is my new representative. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Cincinnati, OH), November 10, 2016: From Ohio ProLife Action's Legislative Consultant, Barry Sheets:  November 8th, 2016 will be a day that will go down in the history books (if not the record books also) for being a sea-change in national politics. Against just about every prediction from both the right and the left, the Donald Trump-Mike Pence ticket prevailed and have been elected to be the next Presidential team to ascend to the White House in January 2017. This is great news for pro-life advocates, as the specter of a Planned Parenthood-endorsed Hillary Clinton as chief executive will now not materialize, and perhaps never will. A second stinging defeat to "make history" may signal the end of the Clinton brand on the national political stage. A number of politicos made grave projections regarding the fall-off down ticket from Trump. Exactly the opposite occurred nationally, and especially in Ohio, with many pro-life Congressional and Statehouse candidates being very successful. The Trump ticket won Ohio with a commanding 8.5 percentage point advantage, driven directly by turnout in rural and Appalachian counties. This turnout also saw additions to the Ohio General Assembly's Republican majority. Earlier predictions in the late summer from around the Statehouse saw a potential loss of 5-7 House seats for the majority. Instead, the current 65 member Republican caucus added a 66th member for the 132nd General Assembly when pro-life candidate Jay Edwards won in the 94th District, which includes liberal Athens County. Many solid pro-life gains were made with the addition of stalwart pro-life Representatives-elect Candice Keller, Wes Goodman, Dick Stein, Derek Merrin, Larry Householder, Scott Wiggam and Jay Edwards to join a growing pro-life caucus within the Republican conference. The Ohio Senate also benefited from the Trump phenomenon, picking up a formerly reliable Democrat 30th Senate district as businessman Frank Hoagland used Clinton's unpopularity in the district to wrest the seat from incumbent Lou Gentile. This gives the Senate a 24-9 majority in the chamber, the largest in history. For pro-life policy, the windfall that was Election day should bode well for the lame-duck session and on into the 132nd General Assembly. Still to be completed is a bill to prohibit the dumping of unborn babies' bodies (Senate Bill 254), as well as ensuring that Ohio doesn't move forward with adopting a "Death with Dignity" assisted suicide measure promised by liberal pro-abort members prior to the election. Pro-life advocates should be ready for a strong fight during the 132nd Assembly, as these new majorities can translate into significant and relevant pro-life gains, as long as pro-life advocates and grassroots keep up the encouragement for bold pro-life actions in the wake of this significant election.
