Have You Seen A Good Movie Lately?

***** M o v i e s that I n s p i r e *****

On the e-the-People Public Forum one writer recently wrote an interesting article asking "What do you find inpirational?" That article "inspired" me to reflect on what movies I have seen and felt were inspirational.

The overwhelming majority of films produced today by Hollywood and others are simply trash. These days very few movies are worth spending time or money to see. Actually Hollywood is on the leading edge of the wave that is destroying America. We should not fund Hollywood's perversion. We should boycott all films that are not wholesome or uplifting.

I do not go to the movies very much and I have not had my television hooked up for over a year, but from time to time I will purchase a movie. I have seen the following list of movies at least once and I do own them.

My Top Ten

1. Awakenings (Robin Williams) (1990) - "Delves deeply into one of the worst human fears, losing the ability to move and function, but it's never forced or manipulative, and there's no heavy-handed message or moral." Source

2. Chariots of Fire (1981) - "Based on the true story of a yung Scotish runner who is willing to put obedience to God above even an Olympic gold medal." (1), (2)

3. Doctor (William Hurt) (1981) - "Based on the real life story of Edward Rosenbaum, MD. Dr Rosenbaum wrote an autobiography of his experience entitled "A Taste of My Own Medicine: When the Doctor Becomes the Patient"."

Sources/Resources

(1) - Charles Colson's Breakpoint website offers a nice resource of good movies with brief reviews. Some of the reviews here are from Colson's site.
(2) - These films are also listed on the American Film Institute List of 100 of the most inspirational American Films.. There a several good movies on this list but there are also some questionable ones.

Movieguide is a ministry dedicated to redeeming the values of the mass media according to biblical principles, by influencing entertainment industry executives and helping families make wise media choices. There are some free movies reviews offered on this site. However, to have full access to the archive of movie reviews requires a $40 annual fee. It may be worth it if you are a big movie watcher. It may also be a good way to assess a movie before you see it and/or purchase it.

How About You?

Do make A Good Choice and be very careful what kind of movies and what kind of other media that you allow to enter your mind. "Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." Proverbs 4:23 (NASB)

What is one movie that "inspired" you?

. . . sounds like you enjoy the same kind of movies as me. Another good scripture reference for this topic is Philipians 4:8:

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."
