S everal weeks ago Rosie O’Donnell on the ABC TV show, the View, compared radical Islamic-terrorist-fundamentalism with that of radical Christianity. At first blush I felt anger and vehement disagreement with her controversial comparison. However, in thinking more about it I concluded that she, in fact, is right. To be a true “believing” Islamic-terrorist requires that you either be hopped up on drugs or have a total dedication and commitment to your (albeit false) beliefs that killing innocents will get you a couple of dozen virgins and an eternity of pleasure in the great beyond. I do not believe that any Imam would support the use of drugs, so that leaves only one reason – undying (or in some cases a dying) commitment to the cause.
Likewise, Jesus Christ requires us to die to self and to be totally committed to Him. In order to tap into that abundant life that He offers, we must wholehearted follow Him and obey His sometimes radical requests – sell all that you own and follow Me, give generously, leave your mother and father and go where I send you, invest in others by making disciples, etc. The commitment that Jesus asks of each true believer is every bit as radical as Osama Bin Laden asks of his followers. The difference is what awaits us in eternity. More likely than not for the dedicated Islamic-terrorist like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi it is the unquenchable fires of hell and worse, eternal separation from God. For the true Christian it is everlasting fellowship with the God of the universe that awaits us. That is the stark difference between “good” versus “evil”. We are declared to be good through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and our personal appropriation of that provision and commitment to Him.
First of all, there is a difference between true Christianity and all other religions. Our Fore Fathers knew the Judeo-Christian principles to be true and they based much of our nation’s original governmental structure and laws on biblical principles and precepts. Most of the Founders of this nation intimately knew God and knew the contents of the bible, being very biblically literate people.
True Christianity, when all is said and done involves a personal relationship between an individual and a Sovereign, Eternal God. One cannot be a true Christian, who has not followed the biblical mandate to be redeemed by Jesus Christ as the true gospel proclaims.
Christianity, to many people is just a religion. Mere religion offers a set of beliefs and guidelines to live by to “earn” a right to some earthly or eternal reward. However, in true Christianity, a true believer has through the saving work and power of Jesus Christ has been “accepted” and redeemed, made whole, by God. Christianity, because of this, is truly unique. As true Christians and out of the commitment and relationship that we have with the Creator Himself, and out of love for our fellow human beings are to love others as Jesus loved us, we act. Out of this love came the first schools using the bible as the main textbook, including Harvard, which was at one time a Christian school, numerous hospitals and other charitable works. This is the legacy that revisionist of American History wants to purge.
For over 100 years now this nation has been moving away from our roots – our Christian heritage and values - and have allowed the likes of John Dewey, Margaret Sanger (eugenicist and founder of Planned Parenthood), Charles Darwin, and Roger Baldwin (ACLU founder) and extreme liberally biased and godless judges beginning with the likes Earl Warren and the disastrous leftward turn of the supreme and other courts of our land to reshape America. We have been remade in the image of man rather than God. God, the Creator, has been deliberately and stealthily replaced by an far inferior god, man. Regrettably, inferior Secular Humanism, which serves as much of the presupposition, basis, and creed of today’s Liberalism Religion, has replaced Christianity and ultimately God as the final authority in much of our society including our schools, courts and many of our businesses.
The radical Anti-American ACLU has consistently and systematically attempted to minimize and even remove all influence of Christians and Christianity from government and the public arena. They demand that we be tolerant of all diverse groups and opinions except one – that of true faith-based Christianity, which is the unspoken “public enemy number one” of the ACLU, the Americans United for the Separation of Church and State and the People for the American Way, George Soros, and the powerful purveyors of perversion in Hollywood, the internet and television, especially unregulated cable, and the slanted and biased Main Stream Media.
Many of us fail, but this still is our mandate from God. I believe that this is why God has so blessed the United States of America for nearly.200 years, it is because this country was founded by true Christians and on biblical principles and precepts and was established to honor God and to be a shining light on a hill for the entire world to marvel at the outworking of a people and nation dedicated to the one true God. This is the sad state of America today. Still I believe that it is not too late for America to regain her former footing, glory and godliness.
William Bennett’s latest book title says a lot “American: the Last Best Hope.” However, my clarion call to believers and would-be believers is: “True Christianity: the Only Hope for America.”
