Ohio US Senate Race: What's the Difference?

Being an independent voter and although ideally I would prefer a strong social and fiscal conservative be they a Democratic, Republican or Third-Party candidate, my choices boil down to Brown, DeWine and don’t vote. Is a “don’t vote” a statement indicating that I will not compromise my beliefs and principles? For some that is the case. For me in this race at this time it would be helping the candidate or cause which is the greater of two evils.

THE POSITIONS ON KEY ISSUES

Let’s look at the differences in the candidates on the issues for which I feel are the most crucial for America, for Ohio and for me:

Congressman Sherrod Brown………………Senator Mike DeWine……………..

Pro-death (---)………………………………………Pro-Life (+++)………….……………
>>>abortion of demand
>>>partial birth abortion
>>>assisted suicide
>>>euthanasia
>>>cloning & ESCR

Pro-homosexual agenda (---)………………….Pro-traditional marriage(+++)
>>>For special protections
>>>For same-sex marriage

Anti-school vouchers (-)……………………..…..Pro-school vouchers(+)…….

>>>Pro NEA & AFT Unions

Increase taxes (--)…………………………………..Reduce taxes (++)…….……
>>>Against child tax credits

Against Iraq War (--)………………………………..For Iraq War (++)………………
>>>Appease our enemies
>>>Military NOT a priority

For illegal alien amnesty (---)…………………For illegal alien amnesty (---)

Against Free Trade (+++)…………………… For Free Trade (---)……………..

CONCLUSION

Congressman Brown is tends to be more of a hardcore radical liberal leaning Democrat as opposed Mike DeWine who tends to be a moderate leaning Republican who is strong on social issues. In tallying up the pluses and Senator DeWine comes out the “winner” by far.

Brown: - 11 (3 pluses less 14 minuses)
DeWine: +5 (11 pluses less 6 minuses)

TAKE ACTION

This election is very important. None of the slate of candidates is perfect. No mere man or woman is perfect, far from it. There is only one good and perfect being – God.

First and foremost register to vote.

Next, study the issues, study the candidates. Identify the issues that are important to you. See where the candidates stand on the issues. Two good websites for determining where the candidates are on the key issues are OnTheIssues and Smart Voter. Assign pluses (+) or minuses (-) on the key issues of import to you. Add up the pluses and the minuses and see who would represent you the best in the U.S. Senate.

Finally, make A Good Choice on November 7th.

    The worse thing we can do for the sake of the Constitution of the United States is to allow Republican control to continue. If you really love this country you'll hold your nose and vote for the democrat, if only to keep Bush and company from destroying what is left of American freedom and justice. This is the most important election there is, because if the power structure holds on they are going to do whatever they like for the next two years, at least. As for your fiscal responsiblity, the best thing you can do to reign in the federal government is to have one party control the executive and the other to control congress, like Clinton and the Republicans in the 90s. If you vote for DeWine he is certainly going to spend a lot of your money, more than Brown, who's bills will never get past George W.

    But it is the constitution that cries out for your support here. Abandon it to support a Republican agenda that they won't support and you will have lost your soul. You don't think they are really going to end abortion, do you? Only for the poor and middle class. Bush's daughters will get an abortion if they want one, just as all rich people always have. There is nothing but hypocrisy on those issues.

    But you don't really care about this, do you?

  2. Hi Anon –

    Thank you for you post.

    Zell Miller said it best in the title of one of his books in regard to the Democratic Party – A National Party No More. The Democrats Party has sold its soul to the liberal radical leftist contingent of their party – Howard Dean, the Clintons, Pelosi and Schumer. They lost all credibility in my mind. The GOP is not that much better because they have tossed aside many of the conservative principles.

    What is needed is a strong third party of conservatives to arise and repudiate both parties and to stand on conservative social and economic principles. This “party” exists but it is very small, it is the Ohio Constitutional Party (see their platform at http://www.ohiocp.org/.)

    Until such a party gains some degree of prominence we are stuck with essentially two heads of the same political monster. For me at least the right – GOP – is more correct that the dead head left – the Dems.

    I agree with you that is a very important election, but I disagree with what we should do. The Dems are less able to deal with the fiscal and especially the social issues as the GOP. Dems care only about getting and keeping power and taxing and spending. Historically they are infamous for both. Bush has done some things right, but Gore or Kerry would have herniated the country more than Bush could ever do. No, for now we need to elect the best person for the each position. Because the Dem Party leaders have so swayed the party to take and support only extreme leftist positions they have no candidates for whom I can vote for in good conscience, none.

    It is that same liberal radical leftist controlled Democratic Party and their comrades the ACLU, the Americans for the Separation of Church and State, People for the American Way, Planned Parenthood Federation of American, NARAL, NOW, an array of homosexual activist groups and a gang of liberally biased activist judges like Judge Ginsberg and Judge Diggs-Taylor who work at systematic destruction of our way of life.

    Abortion needs to end because it is wrong. Abortion is taking of a sacred human life. It is not a GOP thing, it is not a Dem thing. It is the right thing to do – its eventual re-criminalization!

  3. I'm not going to vote for either DeWine or Brown. Enough is enough! If neither candidate is a God-fearing protector of our God-given rights, then don't vote for either. Let God decide.

  4. Hey Matt -

    Thanks for your comment. You don't see any difference between Brown & DeWine? There are some who agree with you. Right now for me it is DeWine by default. DeWine is pro-life and he is pro-traditional marriage. These are two extremely important issues to me. The way I see it a "don't vote" helps Brown. And there would be a dramatic blow to the cause of life and morality if Brown got elected.

    I see DeWine as more of a protector of our rights than is his opponent, who would further strip away our rights. If you get a chance send me an email and tell me specifically what you don't like about DeWine. I do not agree with him on all his positions either.
