He Played by the Rules He Made

Note: This is a new feature of this blog, which will appear here periodically on Sundays. This feature is called Sam’s Sunday Sermonette. It will be an expression of what is currently on the mind and heart of its author, Sam, who is a contributing blogger on AGC. --- gregjaye

The other day I drove into Robert L Walsh Memorial Park and saw a sign that read, “Park closes at dark.” I though of the times I had camped and walked through the area before it became a community park. How much more freedom I had before the government took control of the area. There was a time when a man and his friends could go into a park at night and it would not be against city regulations to do so.

Jesus often took His disciples into the Garden of Gethsemane, which by today’s standards would probably be in violation of the park’s posted regulations Jesus, we read, also prayed (God forbid!), no doubt “in Jesus’ name” which today is also against Navy regulation. There was a man in the group of disciples who stole from the treasury of Jesus’ evangelistic enterprise. What’s more the embezzler did it with the full knowledge of Jesus. The question today would be how much did Jesus know and when did Jesus know it. Today, Jesus would be accused of being an accessory to the crime of theft because He knew about it and did nothing about it.

There is a bible account of Jesus reattaching a man’s ear back on him after Peter slashed it off. Today Jesus would be practicing medicine without a license. Jesus was in the company of a subordinate who had a weapon. So Jesus would be guilty of weapons charges.

Jesus did many things which by today’s standards and even according to the customs in His day were considered wrong. Yet, scripture says He was without sin. So, who is in error, Jesus or Society? It would be good if you came to the correct answer before you appear before Jesus in judgment. Jesus is the Judge of all the earth.
