Anna Nicole Smith, America's Idol & Symbol

Much has been written about the now dead goddess, Anna Nicole Smith. Frankly the coverage is almost unbearable. What did this woman contribute to society except scandal and her half-clothed and unclothed body and a multitude of fodder for tabloids?

The traffic and untimely death of Anna Nicole Smith symbolizes in many ways the fall of America. Here we have a beautiful woman, who sold her body to a sleazy pornographic magazine (Playboy), who danced her way into the heart of a 89 year old millionaire and who married him for his outstanding good looks. After his death and the death of her drugged up son she continued to sell her body to the movies, TV and advertisers. She gave herself away apparently to various men. There is even a major dispute over who was the father of her baby daughter. Decadence, depravity narcissism could all describe America and America’s infatuation with this beauty queen.

Isn’t this much like America, squandering our bountiful resources on ourselves and our own pleasures? Lusting for more of everything from beauty to bucks? We conveniently dispose of the “products” of conception as if they were yesterday’s newspaper. We abuse ourselves despite all we have been blessed with – we overindulge on food, we pay big dollars to lose the fat, we get fat again the cycle repeats over the years. We allow ourselves to get addicted to fame, drugs, alcohol, sex, power, pornography, food etc. We are living examples of an undisciplined and a life ruled by our passions.

We glamorize and worship pornography and sex in the movies we watch, the books and magazines we read, the immoral music we listen to, the indecent behaviors we practice and pay billions for all of it. Yet people are homeless and hungry in America. We deny children’s access to God in our schools, the only true hope for America and for true salvation> We reject the things which we have known as a nation since our inception, but which now in an “enlightened” era we reject, we marginalize we ridicule or ignore God, Jesus Christ and the people who love and follow Him. We worship false gods and idols – money, celebrities, sports, sex, drugs, alcohol and reason. Like Anna Nicole Smith we are dead, yet unlike Anna still walk and breathe at least physically but many of us are as spiritually dead as Anna is physically . . .

America it is time to wake up and to strengthen the things that remain and to turn away from the decadence, decay and depravity and to walk again with the God who has so blessed America. We must do so before it will be too late to do otherwise. . .
