Adding insult to injury
In yesterday’s posting I talked about the DaVinci Code movie as being blasphemous, as well as the pornographic portrayal of Jesus Christ in a college newspaper. Both of these developments are symptomatic of a deliberate attempt on the part of some to discredit and destroy all vestiges of God, Jesus Christ and all things holy and sacred in our nation.
In talking about the latest attacks on Jesus, it seems to me that the issue is not so much as fiction versus nonfiction, as it is a matter of it being okay to ridicule and pervert Christianity and insult Jesus Christ in the cinema (the DaVinci Code) and by permitting pornographic portrayals of Jesus Christ, the living God Himself, in student taxpayer-financed public so-called institution of higher learning.
Yet what an outcry, deep sympathy and understanding was shown on the part of the US press when in the Netherlands, mere cartoons satirizing the long-dead Islamic prophet were so intolerable that they were never published, as far as I know, here. Our fair-minded, sensitive, and so noble US newspapers and media, would not dare print or display, for fear of offending their many Moslem readers? Or is there another agenda?
There seems to be a big disconnect here.
On the one hand, there seems to be a deliberate, relentless attack on one system of beliefs or worldview, which itself is inextricably linked to the history of this nation and is the major reason for its greatness. While on the other hand, we placate an essentially alien religion. Something is wrong with this PICTURE . . . literally and figuratively. In other words, Christ, Christians, and Christianity are viable targets to disparage, but never think of offending the “religion of peace” because its adherents might kill you? Where is he justice, where is the logic, where is our allegiance?
Let us never get used to these offenses. Let us never overlook them. Let us call them what they are. Boycott the movies, the schools, etc. that glorify, tolerate and condone such behavior, for Christ’s sake. Amen.
Note: Much of this posting is based on an entry I made today at the OPEN: Ohio Politics forum (#1097)
