Collins Bailey for Congress

If you take a quick look at the issues portion of Collins Bailey’s website, you will get a good idea of what he is all about. He is running for Congress in Maryland’s 5th district.

On the environment, he takes a common sense approach of allowing businesses to have the freedom to negotiate environmental standards, rather than imposing unenforceable and heavy-handed regulations which do more harm than good. He points out that it is unfair that these regulations, such as restricting oil drilling, often apply only to American businesses. If the government would simply stop subsidizing activities which pollute the land, air, and water, the total amount of pollution would greatly reduced. He favors tax credits for alternative energy and getting rid of oil subsides.

He supports the right of individuals to bear arms (for any reason).

Collins believes that abortion should always be illegal. He supports the HR 1094 (Sanctity of Life Act of 2007) which would define life as beginning at conception and to include all races and would eliminate the jurisdiction of the federal courts over the abortion issue and return it to the states. He also supports HR 1095 (Taxpayers' Freedom of Conscience Act of 2007) which would prevent further expansion of federal funding of population control.

He supports a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

On trade he says, “I support FAIR trade. When we have regulations on our industry that make our products more expensive and other countries do not, that is not fair trade. All involvement in free trade agreements and involvement in intergovernmental organizations dedicated to trade must be for the purpose of achieving what is best for all Americas. I would repeal all trade agreements that hurt American workers and/or weaken our economy and/or penalize the American public. I would withdraw from all intergovernmental organizations dedicated to trade that are not in the best interest of all Americans.”

Collins believes that the key to improving the economy is to stop wasteful government spending. He would immediately freeze spending for every department and would then eliminate entire departments. He would increase the personal exemption from $3,400 to $15,000, cut the tax rates to 2.5% for most people, and then eliminate the IRS altogether. He would eliminate welfare.

He would repeal No Child Left Behind and eliminate the Department of Education, returning control of education back to the states, local school districts and parents.

Collins believes that the issue of healthcare is best left to the patients and doctors and that it is a waste of money and a loss of freedom for government to get involved with it. He would cosponsor the Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act of 2007.

To protect our borders and sovereignty, Collins would physically secure our borders and coastlines, enforce visa rules, vote against amnesty and welfare for illegal aliens, end "anchor" baby abuse, pass true immigration reform, and stop Social Security for illegal immigrants. Read more on his on views on this subject here.

He would make a law that would require that all social security payments be put into a trust fund, that each person paying social security taxes would be given a savings bond that would be redeemable at retirement age for the amount that they paid plus interest, and that only the person who paid into the trust fund (or designated heir) could receive the money.

Collins is against the war in Iraq, would withdraw our troops from there and would reduce our military presence around the world. He says, “America should not be the world’s policeman.” He says that he would not “support pre-emptive military strikes against countries deemed to be a threat to United States national security”. He would reduce and eventually eliminate foreign aid.

Collins opponent, the ultraliberal Steny Hoyer, voted for EDNA. He believes that abortion should always be legal. Hoyer voted in favor of the employing use of force against Iraq (10/10/2002). Don’t believe these congressmen and senators who say that they only voted for war because they were misled by the President. Steny Hoyer is a cosponsor of H.CON.RES.362 (here we go again), a bill that would set of up a blockade around Iran, provoking them to war (read more about this here).
