Hypocrites & the Hostages to Higher Standards

I think that in one respect Conservative Americans and even more so, true Christian Conservatives, are held to a much higher standard than their liberal and faux Christian liberal American counterparts.” That, may I say, is not all bad. One generally places (or should place) principles over politics, the other usually places politics and political correctness over principles.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA TREATMENT

Just compare how the main street media dealt with persons for their apparent past misconduct:

the Conservatives:

· Bob ‘Took favors from Bob Abramoff” Ney
· Jerry “Gets in trouble calling a sinner a sinner” Falwell

the Liberals:

· Representative William “cold cash” Jefferson
· Reverend Jesse “a ‘saint’ even when he sins” Jackson

Of these two groups of apparent misbehaving malfeasants which group is held in high regard by the mainstream media, gets a free pass, and remains in office or continues to be respected today?

JERRY & JESSE

“Shortly after the contested election of 2000, it was revealed that Jackson (married since 1962) had an affair with a staffer Karin Sanford that resulted in the birth of their daughter, Ashley. According to CNN, in August of 1999.” (1)

“Falwell is a controversial subject for his theological, political and social beliefs. After the September 11, 2001 attacks Falwell said on the 700 Club, "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, , all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen." (to which Robertson concurred). After heavy criticism, Falwell apologized. As for homosexuality, Falwell remarked, "AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals."” (1)

Result: Falwell –Ridicule; Jackson – Reverence

BOB & BILL

“In late 2005 and early 2006, allegations that Ney played a key role in the Abramoff scandal were widely reported. “(1)

“(William) Jefferson has been under investigation by the FBI for suspected corruption since March 2005. Since that time, he has been named in the guilty pleas of two associates. On 15 May 2006, Jefferson called a press conference at which he announced that he did not intend to resign, despite expecting to be indicted on corruption charges.” (1)

Results: Ney – Resignation; Jackson – Reelection

CONCLUSION

Clearly, the biased of the mainstream media – network TV, newspapers, and news magazines - is in favor of the leftists. Jesse Jackson. William Jefferson and Bob Ney are corrupt, sure enough. I do not see Jerry Falwell in the same category as these three, however. His only error as I can see it is speaking the truth. I didn’t like it that he apologized for telling the truth. Much like Pope Benedict apologized to Muslims for his assessment of early Islam.

It is also revealing that Conservative wrong doers resign (Ney, Foley) but Liberal wrong doers shamelessly seek and get reelected (Jackson, Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy & Gerry Studds). Shame on the electorate who elect or continue to reelect such immoral cads.
