Planned Parenthood Struggles in 2006

Cybernet News Service (CNS News) reported today that the number of clinics run by Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest provider of abortions, has dropped to the lowest number since 1987, according Stop Planned Parenthood (STOPP) International, a subdivision of the American Life League (ALL).

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America began the year with 872 clinics and, even though it opened several new clinics, ended the year with 859.

In the CNS article Jim Sedlak, executive director of Stop Planned Parenthood (STOPP) International claimed that "Americans are rejecting Planned Parenthood and its agenda as more and more of its clinics are closing across the United States." He had also said that 2006 was another year of struggle for this abortion provider.

The article continues to quote Sedlak, “He based his comments on a new study by STOPP, which shows that the number of Planned Parenthood's "health" clinics has dropped to 817, its lowest total in almost 20 years. That number has been dropping since 1995 when it stood at a total of 938. Sedlak noted this constituted an average reduction of 11 clinics a year.”

According to the December 13, 2006 Wednesday STOPP Report the following were the number of clinics in the United States, which have been declining since 1995:

Year - Number of “Health” Clinics

1987 - 816
1990 - 879
1995 – 938
2000 – 876
2005 – 825
2006 – 817

The number of clinics counted in Ohio and in states surrounding Ohio are:

· Ohio (37) Opened 2 express stops and closed 4 clinics in 2006
· Pennsylvania (43)
· West Virginia ((1)
· Kentucky (4)
· Indiana (38) Closed 1 clinic
· Michigan (31) Opened 1 clinic

It is interesting to note that California leads the nation with 98 clinics with New York at 79 followed by Texas at 77. Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan all finished in the top ten. The only state that does not have a Planned Parenthood clinic is North Dakota.

If there was but one abortion clinic, it would be too many, in my opinion. America is in desperate need for passage of the Life Begins at Conception Amendment to stop the wholesale slaughter of innocents.

It would behoove all Conservatives and all Christians to work toward the closure of all abortion clinics in this country, for the sake of the innocent children daily being “legally” exterminated.

  1. Praise God. May they keep shutting down and keep losing influence.
