According to Kristen Fyfe of NewsBusted.com The Golden Compass movie did not produce the expected pot-of-gold results at the box office this weekend. Unfortunately, it was still number one among movie goers this past weekend. It took in $26 million and averaged $7,500 per screen. In comparison the low-budget movie with a positive message, Bella, earned $8,600 per screen in far smaller distribution when it opened a month or so ago. The company making the Compass film was expecting between $30 and $40 million.The movie cost $180 million dollars to produce.
