Mixing Religion and Politics, Part 2: Making a Monkey Out of You

Part 1 link

A clear cut example of Christians being forced to propagate a religious teaching that they don’t believe in is the teaching of the theory of evolution in the public schools. The establishment arrogantly claims that evolution is obvious fact, even though it requires much faith to believe in it. If anyone teaches what the Bible says about it, then it is a Constitutional crisis, because the government shouldn’t propagate religion. But it is perfectly acceptable for it to propagate evolution as an indisputable fact, even though a large portion of the population disagrees with it.

I do not deny that there are cases where a mutation in the DNA of an organism can be passed on to its offspring, causing deviations from God’s original design. I even accept the idea that this can lead to new species. (The Biblical concept of “kind” is not equivalent to species as classified by modern scientists, especially for extinct organisms.) But there is no evidence that mutations have ever lead to a “higher” or more complex organism (no new biological functionality). It is certainly a leap of faith to say that these mutations are the cause of all variations among living things.

The general theory of evolution teaches that all life evolved over millions of years from a single cell. It teaches that this ongoing process is a painful, struggle for the survival of the fittest. Therefore, if there is a god who set these things in motion, he is a murderer, because he created a world of death, sickness, and pain. The Bible teaches that Adam was created from the dust of the earth (he did not descend from any animal), and that death came into the world through this one man. This happened because Adam disobeyed God’s word. I do not deny that there is a struggle for the survival of the fittest in the world today. But God did not design the world that way. All of the death, disease, poverty, and suffering in the world is caused by people disobeying God’s word. Many sins temporarily alleviate suffering, but they always cause even more separation from God and suffering in the long run. So it’s a vicious cycle.

Have you ever lied to get out of receiving a punishment that you know you deserved? Would a just God let this go unpunished? Have you ever looked at someone with lust? Would you have, in that instant, committed a sexual sin with this person if could have? Is that not the same as adultery? Would a just God let this go unpunished? Have you coveted? These things separate you from God and leave you vulnerable to their consequences. Suffering, poverty, and even death in this life are only temporary consequences of sin. These serve as warnings for the eternal consequence of sin which is eternal punishment in hell.

But Jesus Christ was willing to take your punishment for the sins that you have committed. He came to break the cycle of suffering, sin, and death in your life. You can accept Him as your Lord and Savior and be reconciled to God. You can do this by turning away from your sins, trusting in God that what He calls is sin is always ultimately for the worst. You already have a basic understanding of what sin is from your conscience, which God gave you (it did not evolve), but you can know it better by studying God’s word, the Bible. Believe that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for sins. Confess this publicly and be immersed in water (you can do this in a Bible-believing church) for the remission of your sins and as a sign of your acceptance of Jesus as Lord of your life. Then you should get in a church that teaches these things, diligently read the Bible (check that what I am saying agrees with Scripture), and repeat these things to as many people as you can.

I will discuss the doctrine of “safe” fornication education in my next article.

More mindless ranting and raving about how your religion is great without one shred of evidence.

You turn around and accuse the government of doing the same even AFTER citing some of the evidence for evolution (observed mutations being passed on to offspring). As for there being no "higher" movement; you don't think gaining a resistance to antibiotics is an improvement for bacteria? You ADMIT this can lead to new species without even realizing that is precisely how evolution works.

Now, lets see any verifiable time when a pile of dust turned into a human being? Oops, you can't do that, can you? You just admitted that evolution has much more supporting evidence than creationism.

As for God being a murderer, that would be true regardless of which system you subscribe to since the diety described in the Old Testament is one of the most blood thirsty beings ever conceived, exterminating countless people for completely victimless crimes like gathering sticks on the sabbath.

  2. Bacteria gain resistance to disease by by mutations that destroy genetic information which make it vulernable to antibiotics. This does not bring into existence any new biological functionality. Even if it did, this would not contradict the Scriptures.

Of course you can't prove everything that happened in the Bible using the scientific method (i.e. Jesus walking on water). I am not a positivist (believing that the only things that are worth believing in are verifiable or falsifiable). It is a matter of faith (the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen). What I believe in by faith fits the scientific evidence much better. It takes more faith to be an evolutionist because there is much more that can't be explained.

As for God being a murderer, if the death penalty is murder, then putting people in jail is kidnapping and issuing fines is theft. Every punishment is justified by the crime (or sin) committed. The putting to death of the man who picked up sticks on the Sabbath was a single incident and God was qualified to judge the heart of the man in any way the He saw fit because he disobeyed God's commandment. We are not given the reason why the man chose to disobey. Sin is never victimless. It always hurts God.

  3. One more thing, anonynmous…
Mutations are not the only way that bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotics. Bacteria can acquire genes from other bacteria by transfer of plasmid DNA. This can bring about different combinations of genes as the plasmid DNA combines with the chromosomal DNA. Certain combinations of genes may be necessary for resistance to certain antibiotics. You can call this “evolution” if you wish (it is micro evolution), but to say that there are not genetic boundaries that can’t be crossed takes great faith. I believe what I believe because of revelation from a living God. That is a better reason for having faith than not wanting to be accountable to a righteous God. Even if these processes led to all the bacteria that exist, this does not contradict scripture. All bacteria could be one “Genesis kind”. (I personally don’t think this is the case, but reasonable people can disagree.) I believe that bacteria were created by God to be beneficial to man and the rest of creation, and did not cause disease in the beginning. I admire the passion in your argument, anonymous. You would make a good Christian. Maybe someday you’ll be turned like the apostle Paul was.
