When an armed robber approaches his victim he may threaten, “Your money or your life', while brandishing his pistol. It is a slightly different matter when it comes to a liberal voting congressman dealing with the issue of funding of embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) and relating to the innocent human life (i.e., the embryo), more likely it is “for the money, with your life and for my own personal self interest.” We will see what is behind the frantic desire of the liberal left lead by Pelosi and Reid to push through federal taxpayer funding of ESCR.
THE REAL REASON BEHIND ESCR
Agape Press reports, “A leading pro-life advocate contends there's one reason that so many politicians support the destruction of human embryos for "research" -- and that reason is not so that a cure for a disease can be found. Judie Brown, president of American Life League, says despite the fact that adult stem cells have already been used to treat diseases and that stem cells derived from the amniotic fluid of pregnant women have shown promise, proponents of … ESCR, continue to push the practice for one reason: money. Brown assets that some members of Congress see the substantial amounts of money that biotech firms are investing in ESCR -- and those lawmakers, she believes, want to see more and more money poured into it as well. "Not because it will ever ultimately result in a cure for a disease," she says, "but because there's big money to be made in manufactured hearts, livers, and other body parts." It is evident to her, she shares, that those members of Congress are "more interested in extending their own lives into immortality than they are in honesty." Brown says it is not surprising that these lawmakers would condone the killing of human beings in the embryonic stage, since they also believe in the killing of unborn children right up until birth -- and, in some cases, during birth.”
Money can’t buy me love as the Beatles once sang, but maybe it can buy me longevity or a new body part despite the high price of denying life to another human being.
THURSDAY’S VOTE
How would the new 110th Congress, House vote on H.R. 3 the bill that funds embryonic stem cell research? I was especially curious as to how the so-called blue dog conservative Democrats would vote on this bill. The Cybercast News Service reported, “In November, five pro-life Democrats who campaigned against embryonic stem cell research were elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. On Thursday (yesterday), four of those five voted against a bill that would expand embryonic stem cell research. Voting “no” were Democratic freshman Reps. Heath Shuler of North Carolina, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Brad Ellsworth of Indiana, and Charlie Wilson of Ohio. But Democrat Chris Carney of Pennsylvania voted for the bill...”
This was indeed heartening to me, politicians, Conservative politicians and Democrats, as well, sticking to the promises they made during their campaigns!. This is something many Republican like former Senators DeWine and Allen did not do enough of and that is why they are “former”. I hope and pray that Conservatives of both parties will begin to consistently stick to their principles and not be poisoned by the power and prestige of office as too many pseudo-Conservatives did the past dozen years.
THE NEXT STEP
I sincerely hope our pseudo-Conservative President repents of his moderate/liberal tendencies and stick to his principles and veto this bill if and when it arrives on his desk to sign. Then, I hope that the representatives uphold his veto. Supporting and creating a culture of life is always A Good Choice isn’t it?
