Madam Speaker, Do YOU Understand English?

T.D. has again sent us an email, whose content is worth wide distribution and we reproduce it here. On June 6th of this year 33 U.S. Senators voted against English as America’s official language when it was proposed an an amendment to the defeated amnesty bill. Colonel Harry Riley, United States Army (Retired) wrote the letter below, in which he comments on the vote of these senators.

Additionally, we comment on radical socialist House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who is now thwarting efforts to eliminate an employment regulation requiring employers to hire non-English speakers.

These two issues combined point out how out of touch the liberal congressional leadership both in the Senate and the House are with commonsense and with the will of the majority of Americans.

LIBERAL SENATORS’ LUNACY

Senators,

Your vote against an amendment to the Immigration Bill 1348, to make English America's official language is astounding. On D-Day no less when we honor those that sacrificed in order to secure the bedrock character and principles of America. I can only surmise your vote reflects a loyalty to illegal aliens.

I don't much care where you come from, what your religion is, whether you're black, white or some other color, male or female, democrat, republican or independent, but I do care when you're a United States Senator, representing citizens of America and vote against English as the official language of the United States.

Your vote reflects betrayal, political surrender, violates your pledge of allegiance, dishonors historical principle, rejects patriotism, borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator... impeachment, recall, or other appropriate action is warranted.

Worse, 4 of you voting against English as America’s official language are presidential candidates: Senator Biden, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd, and Senator Obama.

Those 4 Senators vying to lead America but won't or don't have the courage to cast a vote in favor of English as America's official language when 91% of American citizens want English officially designated as our language.

This is the second time in the last several months this list of Senators have disgraced themselves as political hacks... unworthy as Senators and certainly unqualified to serve as President of the United States.

If America is as angry as I am, you will realize a back-lash so stunning it will literally rock you out of your panties... and preferably, totally out of the United States Senate.

The entire immigration bill is a farce... your action only confirms this really isn't about America; it's about self-serving politics... despicable at best.

I agree with Colonel Riley’s sentiments regarding this legislation. English should be America’s official language. Ballots should be in English-only. Accommodations should be made for the blind; however, it is insane to expect a non-English speaker or writer to be aware of the issues or candidates if he cannot communicate in the language of the nation.

PELOSI’S PRODIGIOUS IDIOCY

Michael Reagan in a recent article, “Speak English, Get Ahead,” declares, “It’s no secret that in America, knowing how to speak the English language is the basic requirement for success. . . “Reagan is troubled by Nancy “I am the most powerful woman in the world” Pelosi’s attempt to require the noble charity Salvation Army and other employers “to embrace polyglot as their official hiring standard.” Employers would be forced to hire workers incapable of communicating with organization or business’ customers. Is that foolish or what?

Further, Reagan relates that the Wall Street Journal pointed out in the story they did about Sen. Lamar Alexander’s amendment to reverse the proposed EEOC regulation that employers must hire non-English speaking employees. Despite the fact that the amendment passed, Speaker-Queen Pelosi, in an attempt to appease the Hispanic lobby, has threatened to hold up the vote on the bill funding the Justice and Commerce Department unless the English-only provision is removed.

The Journal also made this observation, “The late Albert Shanker, head of the American Federation of Teachers, once pointed out that public schools were established in this country largely ‘to help mostly immigrant children learn the three R's and what it means to be an American, with the hope that they would go home and teach their parents the principles in the Constitution and the Declaration that unite us.’

The newspaper quoted Sen. Alexander as warning that this “noble effort is in danger of being undermined: We have spent the last 40 years in our country celebrating diversity at the expense of unity. One way to create that unity is to value, not devalue, our common language, English." [Emphasis mine]

. . . this is right on. As a point of interest - the blind have to learn braile to get along and vote, etc. So why is it too much to expect immigrants to be able to read and write English to vote in the USA.
