Shining God’s Light on the Koran

This article is part of an on-going series. See previous articles: "Was Abraham a Jew or a Christian?", "Idolatry 101, 102, 103, Oneness and Unbelievers.

God’s Character

The Koran states, “Never has God begotten a son, nor is there any other god besides him.” Were this otherwise, each god would govern his own creation, each holding himself above the other. Exalted be God above their falsehoods (1).”

The Koran teaches Muslims to “Say, if, as they claim, there were other gods besides God, they would surely seek to dethrone him (2).”

This depiction of God in the Koran is certainly a person with a fallen nature and gives a clear picture of the god of Islam. Each holding himself above the other is a depiction of pride, self-centeredness, self-exaltation and lack of humility. That god would govern his own creation shows that the god of Islam could not work with any other person of equal stature. There is no oneness with anyone else.

The god of Islam has a wolf mentality and the characteristic of looking out only for himself as chief. That "they (other gods) would surely seek to dethrone him" shows a lack of unity with constant fighting for dominance, and self-centeredness.

I can think of individuals with this Islamic godlike character. The most preeminent individual who comes to mind is Saddam Hussein. You may think of others. Surely this describes Satan, the god of this world. After Jesus has reigned on earth for 1000 years with peace and prosperity for all, Satan is loosed from his prison. He goes throughout the world the earth deceiving the nations who then march on Jerusalem to make war with Jesus and the silents. (Revelation 20:6-7). Furthermore the Koran's message that its god "Never begot a son" shows that the god of Islam is definitely not the God of Scripture.

The God of the Bible begot a Son. There are also three persons represented in the God of the Christians and the Jews. This is shown in Isaiah 48:16, 17 where the Redeemer of Israel who is Jesus before the incarnation is sent by the Lord God, who is God the Father, and His Spirit who is the Holy Spirit (3).

The trinity is implicit in the Hebrew name for God, Elohim, which is the plural (4). Before the creation of man, God had a conference and said, “Let us make man in our image and after our likeness (5).” After Adam and Eve sinned, God said, “The man has become as one of Us (6).” We know the Jews were waiting for the Son of God because the High Priest asked Jesus if He was the was the Son of the Highest and Jesus said He was (7). Micah prophesied that there would come one from Bethlehem who would be ruler in Israel whose activities have been from everlasting (8). This one who is the Son of God and very God left His throne in heaven and all the glory and splender he had to be born on earth (9).

He (Jesus) made Himself of no reputation and took the form of a servant being made in the likeness of men. He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on the cross (10). For this reason God has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. That every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (11). All men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father (12). In this way whoever rejects the Son of God also rejects God the Father. It is not possible to believe in God and not believe in Jesus Christ as being God.

God is love. Sincere love hates evil. Love is patient, long suffering, kind, does not envy, is not conceited or proud. Love is not ill-mannered or, selfish, does not seek its own, does no keep a record of wrongs, and does not rejoice in iniquity but in truth (14). God so loved the people of earth, yes, even you, that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, go to hell, then be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, but have eternal life (15).

If you would like to have eternal life right now and not perish you can stop what you are doing and pray, “Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me of my evil and come into my heart.”

Do not be deceived. As I said earlier, and want to emphasize that the god of the Koran is not the God of the Scripture.
