T'was a month before Christmas . . .

I came across this fantastic poem about Christmas here while surfing the net. I thought that it was well worth sharing. I think it is very appropriate in that we have so commercialized and so sanitized this most holy of celebrations. I gave it its title . . .

Twas a month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

Why the PC Police
had taken away,
The reason for Christmas -
no one could say.

The children were told
by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men
and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings,
the teachers would say
December 25th
is just a 'Holiday'.

Yet the shoppers were ready
with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down
to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna,
an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing,
something quite odd!

Retailers promoted
Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books
by Franken & Fonda.

As Targets were hanging
their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas -
was no where to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples
and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas;
it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive,
Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used
to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden,
Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather,
on Kerry, on [Rodham-]Clinton!

At the top of the Senate,
there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus,
in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word,
as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak
of salvation and grace.

The true Gift of Christmas
was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season,
stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate 'Winter Break'
under your 'Dream Tree'
Sipping your Starbucks,
listen to me.

Choose your words carefully,
choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS...!!!!
not Happy Holiday!

This "most holy of celebrations" actually began as a pagan holiday, but was gradually assimilated by Christians. Your post is thus very ironic.

Frankly, I'm surprised, in this information age, that Christians continue to claim exclusivity over December 25 when its true origins have been known for a long time.

    Thanks for your comment.

The date is not so important. The event and person is the reason for the season. History IS His story after all.

Jesus actually preceded the pagans - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God . . . became flesh and lived among us." THAT is the REAL Christmas story or account!

    Hi Greg,

If the date is not so important, then why the fuss over December 25 at all? Your poem suggests everyone forgot the reason for Christmas. It's true. The reason for it was detailed in the website a I linked, and it has little to do with the reason Christians commemorate the day. You'd think that the ruler of the cosmos could establish his own day, without having to steal someone else's.

Various forms of paganism were practiced long before Judaism or Christianity ever appeared on the scene, so I'm not sure what to make of your comment that Jesus actually preceded the pagans.

    I appreciate your comment.

The "fuss" is over the recognition and celebration of the birth of the Lord and Savior. It is the recognition that the Christmas season marks His existence - His life and birth.

To answer your false conclusion, "Various forms of paganism were practiced long before Judaism or Christianity ever appeared on the scene, so I'm not sure what to make of your comment that Jesus actually preceded the pagans." Evil, sin and death in mankind started with the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Man wanted, and still does, to be a god. There is only one God and He is not allah or any or other false deity . . . He is the Triune God - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, - the God of the Judeo-Christian Bible. The true God is jealous and will not have any false gods before Him.

The Judeo-Christian Bible contains a truthful historic account of the origins and history of man on this planet. In it Jesus is referred to as the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Jesus predated, preceded man. He is fully God and fully man. He is Emmanuel, God incarnate, God with us. That is what Christmas is all about.

He is the Creator, the Savior, the Judge, and the Sustainer. He holds all things together.

    Greg,

While I'm sure the alleged birth and life of your god is very important to you and to many other believers, it is not so to others. Christians can't make any special claim to this season because they didn't originate it. If anyone should be indignant, it should be pagans, whose holiday was stolen from them by Christians!

You wrote, The Judeo-Christian Bible contains a truthful historic account of the origins and history of man on this planet.

I understand this is what you believe, but the evidence and reality simply denies it. But go ahead, take it on faith...
