This will be part of an on-going series, which will identify key races where we either need to retain strong conservatives or to elect strong conservatives. My personal feeling with being faced with two inferior candidates for President offered by our major political parties, we must turn our attention to insuring more conservative American-values oriented persons are elected to the U.S. Congress.
THE RACE
The next congressional race that we will highlight is Pennsylvania’s District 12. I suggest that all conservatives in Pennsylvania’s U.S. Congressional District 4 and elsewhere support Lt. Col. William Russell, Republican challenger to John Murtha. John Murtha has spread no mirth the past few years, only disrespect to our military and aid to our enemies.
Russell espouses strong pro-life and pro-family beliefs. Russell would be a real antidote to Rep. Murtha’s anti-American actions, rhetoric and his positions on a wide range of issues.
THE RATING
Bill Russell is a fresh face to politics and would bring strong conservative convictions to Washington where it is so desperately needed. In looking at his website, his positions on the issues line up with my own. He strongly supports the Second Amendment, he believes that the government has an obligation to protect our borders, he’s 100% pro-life and he wants to make all of President Bush’s tax cuts permanent.
Congressman John Murtha is infamous, especially since the Democrats took over congress in 2006. He is moderate turned radical liberal. Murtha is rated as a Moderate Liberal Populist on the On the Issues dot com website.
THE REALITIES
Bill Russell has a real chance in upsetting this entrenched 18 term congressman, who has in the past fooled his constituents in thinking he was moderate-to-conservative on the issues.
A September 11, 2008 NewsMax article said this about Rep. Murtha:
“During Vietnam, Murtha gave signs of being quite patriotic. However, something has changed him and many who once respected him wonder if Murtha’s ambitions for leadership in a political party that has a 40 year tradition of trashing the military led to his incredible behavior . . ."
The Veterans Against Murtha (a project of America’s PAC) wrote recently saying that Murtha outrageously accused our men and women in uniform of murdering Iraqi civilians “in cold blood.” They also say his call for the U.S. to “cut and run” from Iraq, only served to embolden our enemies. The NewsMax.com article continues:
“It turns out Murtha’s slanderous accusations were baseless. All but one of the Marines slandered by Murtha have had the charges against them dropped or have been acquitted. The final Marine awaits his day in court – and he has been informed that his case has been postponed indefinitely or at least until after the election . . ."
Furthermore, Murtha voted against protecting traditional marriage. He voted against the Border Security bill that passed the House of Representatives.
