September Dawn (2007)

September Dawn is a very good and compelling movie. It reminded me of the Patriot. It clearly shows a meaningful contrast between the false religion of Mormonism, which in many ways is similar to Islam, and true biblical Christianity. Both Mormonism and Islam rely on the direct revelation of “god” to primarily one fallible man. In the case of Mormonism it was Joseph Smith. In the case of Islam it was Muhammad. I see several parallels between these two belief systems. Both reject the absolute authority and unique deity of Jesus Christ as being part and parcel of the true Triune God. Both of these false belief systems reject the Judeo-Christian Bible as the primary and absolute authority of the standard of God for life and actions. In other words, Mormonism and Islam, as do all false religions, attempt to add to or to supersede biblical revelation. We are warned in the Scripture not to add to God’s revealed words.

The movie really brings out an accurate contrast between true Christianity and typical non-Christian religions such as Mormonism or Islam. When you depart from the truth, you are prone to immoral behavior such as the former Mormon practice of polygamy. The movie graphically show how the “apostles” of Mormonism used their office much like some of the hierarchy in the Roman Catholic Church have in the past, to aggrandize themselves. In the case of the Mormon “apostles” they took wives of other men for themselves if they so desired. Whenever anything or anyone other than the Word of God, the Bible, is used as the final authority, then such behavior as the Meadow Mountain Massacre or the Twin Towers Terrorist Attack could occur.

The movie centers on an American tragedy, which has been mainly suppressed or ignored for many years. Ironically it was the first major tragic event that happened to occur on September 11th. In the case of the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 120 men, woman and children lost their lives. This massacre happened 144 years before the Twin Towers in 1857.

I don’t think that this movie did very well in the box office, but it should have. It tells a important story that is relevant for today.

There is a story of romance intertwined with the historical account as well.

RATING

I give this movie a ***** out of *****. The violence portrayed gives it a rating of “R”, otherwise it would be a “PG”. The movie is not a family movie. It is meant for adults and mature teens. I would recommend the purchase of the movie. It was released in theaters last fall and released on DVD at the beginning of the year. At least rent the movie if you do not want to purchase it. I highly recommend it. It gives a historical account that does not reflect positively on what some Americans did in the past, but it is a story that needed to be told.

This movie was historically inaccurate, riddled with laughable cliches, poorly directed and executed and the acting was ham-fisted and over the top.

The movie was so biased and poorly done that it hurts the memory and cause of the victims more tha helps it because anyone with just a little knowledge of western history and of the massacre can immediately see the glaring errors throughout the film. This movie was an insult to intelligence.

Unfortunately, based on your rather ignorant comparisons of Mormonism and Islam (it is obvious you really have not studied either to any degree), as well as the fact you gave five stars to a film that has been nominated for the Razzies, I realize my comments will fall on deaf ears and/or a mentality deficient of evidence and sound reasoning.

So, with that in mind, enjoy watching September Dawn and pretending you are doing the world a service by encouraging people to have to sit through that disaster of a film.

Actually, Joseph Smith DID have a gun...apparently, you should read a history book other than what you are told by members of your cult.

This was a great movie and I agree with the reviewer. "Ham-Fisted?" Give me a break. Stop reading LDS reviews.

Rent the DVD, do your own research and watch the "Special Features" section by living descendants and historians. This film was very well executed and does NOT deserve the slinging of mud by the LDS Church that it has received.

You can go to "YouTube.com", type in "September Dawn" and actually see clips of the Mormon Church "Smear Campaign" of this movie before they actually saw it, claiming that the film is inaccurate and false. Hmmmmm...

This movie has also been listed in the top 50 DVD rentals for the last four weeks and has grossed over $6 million in DVD to date... doesn't sound like a disaster movie to me.
