Vote a Conservative Congress, Part 1

For a Conservative Congress

This will be part of an on-going series, which will identify key races where we either need to retain strong conservatives or to elect strong conservatives. My personal being faced with two inferior candidates for President offered by our major political parties, we must turn our attention to insuring more conservative American-values oriented persons are elected to the U.S. Congress.
.
THE RACE

The first congressional race that we will highlight is Ohio District 1. I suggest that all conservatives in Ohio U.S. District 1, in Ohio and elsewhere need to get strongly support is Representative Steve Chabot, Republican incumbent from Ohio (Cincinnati.)

He is a strong pro-life, pro-family leader, he's for securing the border, he's against the Kyoto Treaty, which would force us to partake in the global warming hoax. He has been a strong conservative voice and vote since 1994. Look at his stands and his record as reported at
OnTheIssues.com and see why he is so badly needed in the horrible house now more than ever. He is the type of individual who is not afraid to do the right thing.

THE RATING

Chabot is a strong, solid conservative. See
OnTheIssues.com

Congressman Chabot’s opponent is supposedly a "moderate and fiscally conservative.”

THE REALITIES

The Democratic Party has targeted Representative Chabot on their hit list. He is much too conservative for their liberal appetites.

RaisingKaine.com considers Chabot to be vulnerable and has this to say, “Chabot's 6-point victory in 2006 shows that beating him will be tough in this district in Ohio's southwestern corner, but in 2008 he faces a much stronger challenger in minority whip of the Ohio state House, Steve Driehaus. Chabot also may struggle with his African-American constituents who make up over a quarter of the district's population.”

Prognosis:
Congressman Steve Chabot will win reelection by a nose hair in November.

  1. I live in district 1 and I'm NOT going to vote for Chabot. He used to always mark a "1" on the abortion question indicating pro-life without exceptions. But in 2006 and this year he is following GOP line and supports legalized murder of the unborn in cases of rape and incest. He also tends to vote for whatever pork-barrel spending that the President wants, including this horrible war in Iraq.

His opponent, D-Steve Driehaus says that he is 100% pro-life. The Cincinnati Right to Life has attacked him, saying that the ultra-liberal Steny Hoyer "spoke on his behalf". Just because someone speaks on your behalf, doesn't necessarily mean that you agree with what he says. Nevertheless, I will not be voting for Driehaus either because he said on a past survey that he believes that sexual orientation should be added to anti-discimination laws and he supports hate crime laws.

There is another candidate, a former Natural Law Party member, named John Stevenson or something like that. But he is a total pro-abort and pro-homosexual.

  2. Hi Matt -

    Thanks for your comment.

I did not know that Congressman Chabot renigned on his 100% pro-life stand - I will do some more research. He has a tremendous voting record on life: http://www.ontheissues.org/OH/Steve_Chabot.htm#Abortion

I know little about his opponent except that he was described as "moderate." That scares me. To me moderate means non-committal, often unprincipled.

I did recheck Driehaus' website and one of the endorsements listed is the Human Rights Campaign. HRC website says, "The Human Rights Campaign represents a grassroots force of more than 700,000 members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, HRC envisions an America where GLBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community." Talking about a RED FLAG! This is the organization Hillary promised to give a key to the White House . . . this acceptance of this endorsement should disqualify him for any consideration for one's vote. . .

I have followed Steve Chabot from a distance and his voting record is very very conservative on nearly all the issues -Kyoto Treaty, Immigration, Pro-family, Pro-Marriage.

What you raise about his apparent change of positions on rape and incest - that concerns me, too . . .

Matt, if his position on abortion was not with exceptions, would that persuade you to vote for him? Who would you vote for of the three candidate?

It seems to me that the choice is much clearer in District 1 than it is in the Presidential election, where both are nearly equally evil.

  3. I have voted for Chabot in the past. Once I decided not to vote for him because he supported giving China "most favored" nation trade status. I decided to vote for him 2004, but then what he said in 2006 was the last straw. He did not check the box for rape and incest exceptions but says:
here "I support exceptions for life of mother, rape and incest to achieve legislation that would end most abortions."

On the OhioElectionCentral survey for the 2008 primary he put 2,4,5 (Life of the mother, Incest, Rape) on the question "Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?"

I am definately not going to vote for any of the three candidates mentioned above for congress. If it were not for these abortion exceptions, I would have to think long and hard about it and do more digging. But I'm probably not going to bother since I've already made up my mind.
