Minorities Nanny State Money Returned to State of Ohio

The NAACP is complaining about Cincinnati city council’s decision to reject $264,000 in funds provided by the state of Ohio that would have created an Office of Minority Health. They cite high disease rates among minorities and the current healthcare crisis as reasons for being upset by this. Read their article here.

I, however, applaud city council’s decision to reject this money.

First of all, providing healthcare is not the proper role of government. It is immoral for government to use taxpayer’s money for anything that it not necessary for punishing criminals, maintaining the courts, and keeping the peace. If you use taxpayers’ money to support some program, you are criminalizing anyone who disagrees with you. If someone does not believe that this is a good use of his money and refuses to pay, he is put in jail for it.

Does anybody really think the government can solve problems like disproportionate rates of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, sickle cell anemia, and prostate cancer among minorities? The NAACP also cites infant deaths as a reason for wanting this government bureaucracy. This obvious hypocrisy of this is amazing to me.

Thirdly, why does it have to be an office of MINORITY Health? Isn’t the NAACP supposed to be for EQUAL treatment of minorities? How can a program that benefits only minorities, at the expense of all taxpayers be construed as EQUAL treatment?
