Gambling on the Ballot Again in Ohio

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper runs a regular feature called the Hot Issue, where they ask their readers a question of interest and ask them to answer the question and comment on their answer. The following question was asked yesterday.

The Hot Issue: Should Ohio allow casinos?

My Response: Absolutely NOT! Gambling that Ohio voters will tire of voting no, one outside casino owner is playing his cards again. Issue 6 is nothing but bad news. It promises the world, but it will just open the door for Indian casinos to enter the state. If they do, then this casino between Columbus and Cincinnati will pay no taxes.

Gambling leads to all kinds of problems. The lottery was supposed to solve our educational funding problems. It did not. Gambling is a get rich quick scheme, benefiting only the owners, so just vote NO to casinos and gambling in Ohio.

Read today's Cleveland.com article, "Fight brews over Ohio's Issue 6 casino measure." Vote NO on Issue 6.

  1. This law is also bad because it gives special rights to a certain corporation for a certain casino at a certain location. Why can't do we need a constitutional amendment for this?

  2. Matt -

I agree - its a very bad ballot issue. The lottery hasn't solved our educational problem and never will.
