Shining God’s Light on the Koran - Is it Inspired?

Sam continues his on-going series which contrasts the Judeo-Christian Bible with the Islamic Koran on a variety of topics. He aims the beam of the Biblical laser on the Koran to expose, to reveal what it really says. See his previous articles here.

Inspiration

Both the Koran and the Holy Bible claim inspiration.

THE KORANIC ACCOUNT

We inspired all the prophets We sent before you (Muhammad), saying: “There is no Allah but Me. Therefore serve Me.” (Surah 21:25)

COMMENTARY ON THE KORANIC ACCOUNT

In this passage notice the “We inspired” and the “We sent”. The angels are being raised to a Godlike status for the We are the angels Gabriel and Michael (Surah 2:98) as well as Allah himself. The god of Islam, in this passage, does not recognize anyone else as being god other than himself.

THE BIBLICAL ACCOUNT

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Hear am I; send me (Isaiah 6:8).

The Apostle Paul writing to Timothy states: That from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That, the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (II Timothy 3:15-17).

For we, the Apostles Peter, James, and John, have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; where unto you do well that take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private origin. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (II Peter 1:16-21).

You shall worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: (Exodus 34:14).

COMMENTARY ON THE BIBLICAL ACCOUNT

The God of the Holy Bible does recognize that there are gods other than Himself. They are not actually God but can be gods to the people who worship and serve them. False gods do not help the people who worship and serve them. but serve to separate people from the True God. God is jealous for He created people for Himself and apart from Him is death.

God is the One who has inspired the prophets of old to write and say what they did. The Apostles Peter, James, and John (Matthew 17:1-9) heard God the Father speak of Jesus, His only begotten Son, from heaven itself. They have given us eye witness accounts of God in flesh who is Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is God and worked in and through the prophets in what they wrote and said. What we have in the Holy Bible is good for us in knowing how we should think as to truth which is called doctrine. This reproof tells one where they are wrong or right in their thinking and doing and speaking. Scripture instructs a person on how to act, speak, and think what is correct so they can start to do good. Instruction in righteousness informs and conditions people to live a life pleasing to God. People of God can be fully equipped to perform good works in every situation.

The Us in Isaiah is in reference to the Trinity which includes: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Notice that the Lord refers to Himself as I and Us. The singular and plural is together in one passage Isaiah 6:8.

COMPARING & CONTRASTING THE KORAN WITH SCRIPTURE

In the Koran “We” is used which refers to Allah and certain ones of the angels as if these angels were gods in their own right. In Holy Scripture God refers to Himself at times as Us. This is in reference to the three persons in the One God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are of one essence and each one is equal to each other without being the same person.

Allah does not recognize that there are other gods while the God of Scripture does recognize that people can have other gods. We are to worship and serve the True God.

CONCLUSION

Since it is quite apparent that the "We" of the Koran is not the same as the "Us" of Holy Scriptures, therefore they must be inspired by two different spiritual forces. One spiritual force leads to death, while the other leads to life. Which will you follow?

The Holy Scripture will make a person wise unto salvation from the wrath of God and will also instruct them in Godly living through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Koran does not do this.

If you want to be saved from the wrath of God and live a godly life it starts by inviting Jesus into your heart. You can do this right now. A sample prayer is, “Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sin and come into my heart.”
