Palin’s Commencement Address to Alaska & America

Over the lunch hour I caught a few minutes of the Rush Limbaugh Radio Show. He played a few clips of Governor Palin’s Farewell Address in Alaska, which she made on Sunday. I was impressed with some of the sound bites. I listened to the entire speech and want to highlight a few of the more stunning and powerful remarks. She did the speech without the aid of a teleprompter, by the way.

Below is a two-part video of Governor Palin’s speech. Below each video are a few of my favorite quotes from the speech along with a few of my editorial comments.

Part 1

Speaking to leftist reporters and bloggers who unmercifully belittled, berated her and her family and traditional American values she pleaded, [@ 4:15 of the video ] “You represent what could and should be a respected, honest profession that could and should be a cornerstone of our democracy. Democracy depends on you and that is why, that is why our troops are willing to die for you. So, how about in honor of the American soldier, YA QUIT MAKING THINGS UP?” This was an obvious, long overdue, rightful slap at the media’s malpractice, which so characterized the Leftist dominated opposition media (ABC, AP, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, PBS,, Huffington Post, NY Times, etc.)

Part 2

Speaking to individuals and businesses tempted to take a government handout she warned, [@1:30 of the video] “Be wary of accepting government largesse. It doesn’t come free. Often accepting it takes away everything that is free. Melting into Washington’s powerful caretaking arms will so suck incentive to work hard and chart our own course right out of us. And that not only contribute to an unstable economy and dizzying national debt, but it does make us less free.”

Governor Palin points out probably one of the most important things absent in the policies and agenda of the current administration, [ @2:49 of the video ] “At statehood we knew . . . that we are RESPONSIBLE for ourselves and our families and our future. And fifty years later, please let’s not start believing that government is the answer. It can’t make you HAPPY, HEALTHY, WEALTHY, or WISE. What can? It is the wisdom of the people and our families and our small businesses and industrious individuals. And it is God’s grace helping those who help themselves. And then this allows that very generous VOLUNTARY hand-up that we can known for, enthusiastically providing for those who need it.” Whether she runs again for political office or not she will be an effective voice for conservatives to the bane of Liberals across the nation. She'll tell it like it is and help put traction to the Tea Party Movement . . .

Confronting obstructionist environmental extremists and extremism, she chided, [ @ 4:20 of the video ] “We must be prudent and persistent and press for the peoples’ right to RESPONSIBLY develop God-given resources for the maximum benefit of the people.”

Overall, I find Sarah Palin to be Reaganesque and so refreshing in her positive upbeat approach to political challenges and issues that we face. What a stark contrast to the negative, crisis-oriented, fear-based, America-hating, enemy-appeasing that so characterizes the current occupier of the White House and our lame Congress and its Congressional 'leaders'.

  1. Just passing thru from a google search of "palin teleprompter". Its not surprising how many people are claiming she didn't use a teleprompter, without knowing the facts. The teleprompter is visible in the first min of your video. It appears in full view at the end of her speech but your part two cuts off just before the Truth can be known.

The teleprompter is visible in the raw video feed of the jul 3 speech too. If you read the transcript while watching that speech, you'll see how much the transcript varies from her speech. Also, note how she makes a few mistakes and has to go back and re read her text again to start the sentences over. Thats something you do only if you're reading something. The transcript varies alot from the speech because she does alot of ad-libbing when speaking fast. The transcript is what was loaded into the prompter before the speech began. A normal transcript would be issued after someone's speech and so wouldn't have so many variances to it.

Theres nothing wrong with using a teleprompter, so its not clear why it would be necessary to believe in a falsehood, when it isn't even important. The truth should be important.
