Creationist Apologetics, part 3

On one of Saturday’s posts, Burning, Brandishing & Burying John Freshwater, a sarcastic comment was made by an anonymous commenter named “Another Teacher”. The comment reads as follows:

I completely agree with Mr. Freshwater's actions. His secret plan is to keep humanity advancing, and prevent it from going back to the dark ages.He seems to understand that not everyone can spend their life creating vaccines, curing cancer (have you seen the survival rates for childhood cancers? Many cancers that were a death sentence 15 years ago can now be cured in 90% of the cases), improving crops, you know, all those activities that require a good understanding of evolution.By making his students science illiterate, he assures a supply of fast food cooks, house painters, bus drivers and all the other people needed to keep things moving. And by making them unthinking Christians, he makes sure they will be happy with their humble lives.Thank you Mr. Freshwater and God bless you.

There have many scientific advances made by scientists who are young earth, literal six day creationists. Michael Faraday, Isaac Newton, Robert Boyle, and James Maxwell were certainly not on the level of “fast food cooks, house painters, bus drivers”. Dr. Raymond Damadian, inventor of the MRI, rejects the theory of evolution as well. (How’s that for curing diseases!) I could go on and on. Not all important and respected careers involve science, and most areas of science have nothing to do with evolution.

I am a research scientist myself, and I am also a strict young earth creationist and I have always rejected the doctrine of evolution. My field of research is the area of mathematically modeling percutaneous penetration and absorption of chemicals though the skin. I have been published 5 times in scientific journals, twice in scientific textbooks, have two more articles in press and I am working on several others. (These publications are "mainstream" not “creationist publications”.) In our research group it doesn’t matter whether the skin evolved to be what it is or God created it that way. We only care how it is at present. There are no evolutionary predictions which would differ from creationist predictions in my field.

But in other fields it does make a difference. Evolutionists waste so much time defending their faith the theory and coming up with counter arguments against the creationists when they point out the obvious failures of evolution to predict reality. Scientists wasted so much time irradiating plants, animals and even people, thinking that by doing so, they could speed up evolution and produce a superior organism. I would challenge you to read my first and second in a series of posts about creationist apologetics. Here is a link to the next post in the series.
