Which Goes: the teacher's Bible or the School Board?

Righting 1st Amendment Wrongs

Local Minutemen United Beg Question

There was an article posted last Wednesday on the Minutemen United website and one last Thursday in the Mount Vernon News with more news on the John Freshwater case. This is the case where a teacher in a rural community was told to remove his Bible from his desk. He had previously had the Bible on his desk for almost 20 years.

A local chapter of the Minutemen United group delivered what amounted to an ultimatum to the Superintendent of Mount Vernon Schools, Steve Short. They were also able to meet with him briefly face-to-face. They requested that a public statement be made indicating that a teacher may keep a Bible on his/her desk. The group said that failure to make such a statement may lead them to begin a drive to recall the present School Board.

I think that a recall campaign, if successful, would have a great effect on the cause of freedom to express ones faith in Ohio and in America. It is definitely time to take back some of the freedoms that have been lost in recent decades.
